I'll supply ID's for everything this time around. Give me enough time to find some suitable ones.

On the attack, I was thinking about the safest way to prevent it from attacking when we don't want it to.  Spells are that way.  The attack animations, I don't trust as much.  So, here's what I suggest.  Use any spell that calls an Iscript animation so you can get the target.  Then, place an image overlay for charge up, then use an attack opcode.  Arr3 editors will have to disable all the default attack info(the flags plus the orders) to make sure we don't go blasting off our cannon when we don't want to.

If you've got a different Idea of how to do it, just tell me.  I bet that if you do, it would be easier than mine, but that(my idea) is the best I can come up with.

you could just change the ai script that it runs for the auto casting on the attack so it doesnt attack when you dont want it to

Could(and probably should), but I'm hesitant on that. Maybe I'll test it out quickly later today, when I get all the ID's.

I need other people to do there work and to know more about how the attack of ion will work before I can do weapons.dat

How will it work? Graphics...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2005-12-20 at 10:53:00
Yeah, we need the graphics completely finished first. But, for that, we need to decide how its going to attack. So far, we have 2 possiblities:

1. Similar to Yamato Cannon, it is a single sprite that moves across the screen really fast.

2. A beam that goes into orbit. This would require more iscripting to work, wouldn't it?

I think we should take a quick poll. I say we should use number 1. Much easier to make, easier to script, all around better.

To the Graphics team:

1. Who is doing the Ion Cannon graphic?
2. Who is doing the charge graphic(we are having it charge up, right?)
3. Who is doing the actual Attack graphic itself?

Oh, one other thing. What about when it hits the unit it is attacking? I suggest using the EMP overlay.

I came across a graphic that you could probably use for the ion cannon attack

its in unit\thingy\emsbeam.grp

We have our own graphics. Let's leave it like the Yamato Cannon; I don't want to have it bother going into orbit; nor does that really fulfill my idea of an ion cannon.

EMP overlay sounds fine.

The ion cannon, i myself feel scared to it
yes we are having a charge up now that you mention EMP i think the charge up could be like it(just that it will be a charge up) say...since emp looks like a wave, it could look like a heat wave (you know the temperature raises to max when the ionic engines start to work)
we have tons, and tons of "actual" attack graphics you can see them in the first post, and just four of them but there has been made like 7 or 8 i think
the attack graphic, a beam like yamato, a beam that goes into orbit(disliked by dtbk) - or - having a beam made out of two parts a body and a head the head guides and creates another series of frames that will expand the beam all over the map (this involved having a beam going through the map without disappearing until it reaches target (those three were in my ideas posted before)

Heres what we need to do:

Ion Cannon:

We need to decide to use the original or a new building. If we use the new one we will need to make it turn and a yamoto type graphic, if we make it blast into orbit then we can use the old graphics and a 2 graphics that dont turn.

Ion Sounds:

We can get new sounds or use old ones like the yamoto sound.

Buttons:

We already have them look under the expansion area.

Anything I forgot?

EDIT: For right now just forget about the Ion Research bay then we should do that later.

corbo> we're talking about using EMP overlay on impact, the circular shockwave. I think keeping the original building would work, but you're gonna have to let it have a rotating turret.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Pauper on 2005-12-21 at 16:54:03
Like a missle turret?! If so, how would thta work out?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Dr.Shotgun on 2005-12-22 at 07:57:41
You're going to have to make a rotating model of the Ion Cannon. Blizzard's one doesn't animate.

We need somebody to tell us what to do... Or it will never get done. Where are the prodject leads!

Executive Command:

Data Modders: Work on a sample mpq for the Ion Cannon. Collaborate and find the best stats.
|
\/
Iscripters: Write the Iscripts required for the Ion Cannon.
|
\/
Mempatchers: Write a patch for buttons and techs. In lieu of the Ionic Research facility, use the Science facility.

(Independant)
Graphics team: Model the Ion cannon and beam.

I 'officially' left the SEN-MOD team, but since I have access, I can make a suggestion or two.

Make it so that the beam goes into orbit, like said before. Then make it so that it never reaches the enemy unless you send a 'mirroring' unit up into orbit before.

In effect, to make this work, you have to first buy a special 'mirroring' uncontrollable unit which works similar to nuke but stays up above atmosphere. When ion cannon fires its beam at it, the unit reflects the Ionic Discharge at the enemy base or wherever you want it to be. This leaves gives lots of opportunities.

You can also make it so that after the unit reflects one beam it falls from orbit or something, either remove it from game, or hit something random. Or it can be reused.

Anyway, thats all I wanted to say.

Well, if there's any graphic art that needs to be done that isn't 3-D modelling, I'd be glad to help.

While you're clearing up the Ion Cannon iscripting and attcking stuff, is there anything you need the data editors and/or table editors to do, so that everyone has an objective in mind?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Voyager7456(MM) on 2006-01-01 at 12:26:01
Table editors need to make strings for the Ion Cannon's attack, Build Ion Cannon and Build Ion Cannon (When requirements are not met).
