I will now put some information and problems with the beams posted by Corbo above.

Beam1- Author: Silver-Dragon

Problems: Since it will be shown across the map, and the sprite will not simply be 'thrown' (like yamato gun, halo missile, etc), it won't work for Ion Discharge attack because of its 'expanding' nature; It will be 2 big by the time it reaches the enemy.

Beam2- Author: Corbo (probably either corbo's or paupers')

Problems: None except for the fact that it has no interesting start to the beam. If a Cannon fires a beam like that, wouldn't you expect there to be some irrigularities? Demonstrated in 3 & 4

Beam3- Author: Cnl.Fatso
Problems: None

Beam4- Author: Silver-Dragon
Problems: None





Ideas by me, stated earlier in 'Ideas' topic.

Idea #1
Make the Ion Cannon attack not an attack, but an ability.
2 Abilities:
1) Send a powerful burst of Ion Discharge (or something like that). 1 burst, about 100 mana.
2) Send a powerful beam of Ion Discharge (or something like that). Continuous
beam of energy shoots from Ion Cannon. Takes energy like cloak does, but 10 or so times faster.


Idea #2
Make the Ion cannon attack able to miss.
Don't make it an attack/spell that follows the enemy, it just detects where the enemy was and shoots there. If you use the Continuous idea of Ion Discharge then make it so you can control exactly where the beam is going using some advanced memory patching (make is so if u click on an area, the continuous attack slowly moves to target that location.) But remember, if it never misses, terran has a huge advantage. The game will be full of people building 10 Ion Cannons and eliminating all opposition.

I like it a little more.

The attack should take energy, no matter what. So, it most likely should be an ability.

But, as I said, better if it has 2 abilities. A building with an ability is boring, 2 abilities has more possibilities.

Maybe people should start voting on which beam they like best?

I'm not sure what the problem with it just having 2 frames (left and right) is. Now, if we really want to be evil we could add maybe a 5% chance upon firing that the Ion Cannon will misfire, destroying the building and damaging everything around it. devil.gif

I think it would be possible with a random jump to offset in the spell cast animation. 5% chance that the cannon would use a weapon with the suicide behavior. Should work... ermm.gif

Should I change its color scheme? Size? Anything like that? my JPSP9 can do things like that very easily biggrin.gif

In the nuetral section. So we are going to have 2 frames? Left and right? I like that, less work for me.

Ok, i have compiled one of the beams above, it is has 4 frames so far, but so one else can do the rest. The main stuff in in the folder and the other things are in the mpq. First one is sloppy but i cant fix it. If you want it aim me at P00py joel. Because i cant upload it. Its too big...

Ok, after major problems and one remains i present to you the ion prjectile. Please fix the last and first graphics. OMG! I hate SEN! AIm me agian to get it... DT you aim me.

Finally! I fixed all major problems. It is done. But i only did the beam not the thing when it hits the building. AIM me to get it. P00pyjoel. Well, how do you clear up global space?

Yah. Its white in inside, dark blue in outside. Nothing darker.

More:
You put it in executable format?
.mpq would be much easier, and it would take me a few minutes to extract it now.. I'd rather make my own *.o

Yah, 2 black. I can't simulate that like you did, but I prepared 8 real versions of my Ion Cannon Beam. If someone wants improvements on it, give more feedback on exactly what would make it look better. Most people didn't seem to like the electricity >.>

Heres the 8 bmp in zip file, I'll be busy and can't work on it any more.
How many frames will be needed for this terrible piece of art?
17 regular.. 17 clear.. 17 on hit.

If you look at the original image, the colors are bright and nice, but in SC they are darkened. I dunno why, so should i encrease the brightness?

Also, your files dont need to be facing to the right because SC automaticly flips the frames to make the other side.

k, i like that dunno how u did it because mine crashed..it might be becuz of the colors i used....bah and i think you need up, diagonal up+right, right diagonal down+right, down it's a 45ยบ angle and the left side should mirror itself just like the other grps

and the beam#2 its mine and actually i made that as something it would come out from the Xel'naga -i just had to put it here tongue.gif - and it was supposed to fall down from the sky like...endless biggrin.gif

Well, as of right now I have no 3-dimensional modeling skills, but I'm soon to learn basic 3-D animation as part of a school program. At that point I may be able to take a more active role in the graphics design.

In the meantime, I made a preliminary button for the Ionic Discharge.

The ion cannons attack shouldnt be seen going through the map. It attacks in the atmosphere otherwise the range would be phyisically imposslbe on a round planet. it would have to arch in space which would be like a nuke. The beam would go so far and disapear then wait a little while and come down close the the enemy. Im not sure this is possible though...
