Hmm...About that Infested Terran burrowed under the Player....what if there was like a Detector that was yours or the other players.....then the player would see the Infested Terran under it and be like (OMG WTF IS THAT THING HELP!)

Thanks bolt.. I was around the forums for a while but was too lazy to actually do something. Log to B.net and Ill show you my crappy horror maps (The same ones that contained sounds you took for house of the haunted). About the infested terran, yes you center it less often like about each 7-8 counter units (Hypertriggers, always add 1 to death of X.. when you get 7-8 deaths of X move infested).

It needs some playing around to get the enemies to attack the infested terran and not your main unit because if you just make the main unit invincible they will run away when they are attacked.

When you said u want to discourage people from sticking togather u gave me a nice and weird idea: A dual rpg map where there are 2 complete different parties that dont have shared vision or start in the same place, they barely see each other in game but whatever they do affects the other's party storyline... Was that ever done before?

I doubt it, sounds a most interesting idea though ED, maybe you could have an evil and a good side, each trying to stop the others minions from achieving something, while trying to achieve something themselves, so that if one side gets to far ahead then the other side takes some sort of loss, either complete defeat or something to hinder them, or else the complete opposite...though maybe set on random so that maybe making something, or destroying something doesn't really aid you, and was a trick to help the enemy, Norse God Loki Style...Dammit i should make this...if only i had Starcraft anymore!

LoL thats quite a stray from what i was talking about. I have thought of similer ideas before but never thought about it enouth to set it as my goal. When i see you on b-net next we will have to do that, I have been having computer problems where my computer crashes during starcraft. (its kinda random and annoying as ****)

Oh yeah i noticed you were registered once and was like sweet. I feel Staredit.net has truely taken a step when you start showing up. I guess i never thought of you as the forum type.

PS. I belive you only gave me 2 or 3 sounds for HotH (thanks). They were the ones i used for the elivator cause you told me not to use the electric sounding ones.

I can delete sprites fine in starforge confused.gif It just doesn't always select them unless I use a click drag over them. You only have to select the center of the green box it makes though so a large selection then careful picking can usually get them for you. You do have to start at the top-left and drag to the bottom right though.


And the other thing, I was thinking that footsteps are a good use for a very small location.. you could have it center on their unit when they leave it and play a very short sound (maybe 2 footsteps) before it ends, then loop. If you wanted more variation you could make several slightly different and use them at random (making a 2^x # so that it will always get one)

In House of the haunted I have a footstep system. There are actually two wavs used for the foot steps and the alternate. However it is so settle that i doubt anyone knows this unless they extracted the wavs or I told them.

In This map i was considering haveing differant kind of foot steps depending on where you are (inside or out) (raining or not) whatever.

Bolt, is der blackouts while your inside? like say in building and thunder hits power n power goes out for couple seconds then comes back on. I dunno =/ or maybe sometimes while inside you hear monster roaming or footsteps or random cry.

I will proboly include something like that, I was thinking of haveing one of the buildings have the power out compleatly where you have to rely on your flashlight, with limited charge.

Anyways as a progress report, I'm still working on the terrain. I have the basic layout of all the buildings except the large office building (witch will have an elivator (joy). There not much to look at terrain wise, I will spice them up with a few sprites, buildings for furnature and random details.

A bit of triggering info (if any one cares) I just decided that im going to have a death counter that keeps track of where all the players are. (as in what building) So every time you enter a building I can set the death score to something. And then i can do cool things like

"current player suffers 2 death of location, p8 brings at least 1 bed to p1 / Display text "Old lady: Hey stay off my bed"

or some crap like that lol. Anyways the keypoint is that i can use bring building to location rather than make a location for each building. Also this way i can randomly remove buildings when the map starts so furnature placement is random.

Anyways enouth trigger crap, my progress is slow and mostly in my head.

blink.gif To even further reduce the number of locations, you could have a matching number of burrowed units at each door (or if there are few enough buildings, each a different unit) and use that to determine which "interior" to put them in by finding the right match. As soon as the player got near the cocoon thingies it would check the burrowed units, give them to another player and find the other occurance, and move the player there.



I'm obsessed with reducing the number of locations used.. heh. It bugs me when maps have 200+ locations in use for repetitive things.



you could also use a "pair" of death scores and arrange the buildings so that say, 1-8 were all residential homes and the people inside would get angry at you for not knocking, but 9-11 were just lobbies with a guy saying "can I help you?" or a pop machine or something.

Basicly I want it so that when you go back across a path you have already been on you will have no idea if it will be safe or not. Even though you have already killed the baddies there. Of course, you think to little of me.

I will center a location (like 20x20) and if there are any human units in that area then the trigger won't run. And i'll check a smaller location for burrowed units that I’m creating (so i can randomly create clusters). All i got to do is center a Extra location and add a few more conditions, well worth the effort. It is this sort of effort/attention to detail that makes or breaks a map. Yet a average player will not be able to pick those things out as negitive parts about the map.

Hey Bolt, this genre is my favorite type of map, but unfortunately no one ever does it right. Even House of the Haunted wasn't as good as I think it could be. (No offense, it's still the best there is.) But this time I think your gonna nail it. Good Luck.

Don't be too hard on yourself bolt_head. HotH didn't suck. It just didn't seem... clean... if you know what I mean. Kind of like you were either not having much fun making it or you were kind of new to map making at the time.
Also, I would strongly URGE you to remake HotH sometime, as I believe it has enormous potential for improvement. Oh and If you do, could I get in on it??

LoL i have considered it along with other maps. Like compleatly rip out most of the terrain and all the triggers and do it all over again. But doing is just like making a new map just more borring.

Do you have any specific examples of how it could be improved? Like unit names, story, or just more puzzle / features.

Hm..1 thing to improve..The Fact that you die too easily...Especially since you can get only about 2-3 people to play with you (LoNg DL rip.gif)...once you get the Guns...the lings attack you...Dead...Fight the banshee...go down the stairs...lots of traps..DEaD...Go inot the hole in the wall....touch the key..Lings pop-up..Dead...Ahh I die Too much...Walk out of house...See's car..Dead.

And yeah..House of the haunted is still the best horror map out there yet...it kicks the Crap out of MutilatiedPuppets map pack..And any other horror map = Crap..HoTH that bolt made was some Fruity uber map XD
