Hi everyone I decided to make a production thread for my map Forgotten City. Since I would like to actually make another map I figured a thread might help motivate me. Mostly all the map is now is an idea and some terrain, I’m not even sure on the title.

Basically this is a Horror RPG map, The players are will find themselves stumbling on a large ghost town, and there mission is to determine what happened to it (maybe).

Edit: I decided that to do some of the things i wanted to include in the story it will be neccisary for the town to have a small population. Instead of compleatly abbandoned. Of course this doesn't prevent me from haveing creatures that walk the night or any thing else really f**ked up that i can think of.

There are old streets and several buildings. There will be several buildings including some really large ones with complete missions inside. The player will kind of act as a detective to uncover the story of the town. Along the way he will experience a lot of messed up spooky stuff. Of course im going to try to make it as random as possable to make things unexpected and fresh.

Anyways my story line thingy needs a lot of work, I’m not much of a pre-planner for that kind of thing, I am a do it as a I go kind of guy. Anyways here are a few screen shots of the terrain I have so far.

Here is a intersection. Notice the nice house, and the intersection with stoplights.

A large area of the map will be in the abbandoned factory. Here is the front gate.

This is a screen from Starforge of the Factorys parking lot.

Here is another shot of the intersection. This one has cars because it is ment for a flashback scene wehre you see how it used to be.

Cool terrain is enough to make any map thing of greatness.

An "idea and some terrain" can go a long way. Personally, I think your concept is excellent, and I have no doubt that this map'll be really cool.

I like maps that are more like a seperate game than they are a starcraft map, and this sounds like one of those.

Are you refering as cars parked in the parking lot or a assembly line inside the factory?

Looks good, Bolt.

I think Tux is planning on stopping pretty soon, actually.

Ok I officially got an idea for what I want to do as far as the story goes. The entire story, the way people act and everything is randomized.

The triggers and story line will be set up in a tree form depending on what players do, where they go or what was randomized the story will be different.

The plot will look like this

I) Random Story 1
---A) Random 1a: locks, citizen behaviors, weapons, bad guys are preset here
------1) Effects differ based on players decisions (where they go first who they kill)
---B) Random 1b: locks, citizen behaviors, weapons, bad guys are preset here
------1) Effects differ based on players decisions (where they go first who they kill)
II)Random Story 2
---A) Random 2a: locks, citizen behaviors, weapons, bad guys are preset here
------1) Effects differ based on players decisions (where they go first who they kill)
---B) Random 2b: locks, citizen behaviors, weapons, bad guys are preset here
------1) Effects differ based on players decisions (where they go first who they kill)

Of course the plot line will be a lot more developed. Every character that you talk to will have what he says listed here one game he may be polite old man and the next a tough bully. Every location of any kind of key or access card will be listed, where weapons are stored items locations / prices will all be a result of this.

I want this game to be as random as possible. To do this I need to have everything very well planned out. And many things need to be able to change during game play. I will try to keep this a spooky map if at all possible but the random story line comes first in my mind. Also I don’t know if I’ll be able to create two separate stories. I might have to break it down in half.

I really hope I can stay motivated to do this cause the more I plan it out the larger and larger the project is going to seem. Anyways that’s my plan tell me what you think.

That would mean multiple endings and ways to complete the game... YAY!

Very nice idea! The streetlight doodads and everything else really
shows how much time you have (and probably will) spend on this
project. It seems very promising, i really hope that you finish it,
beacuse these kind of maps (horror maps) are somewhat usual,
BUT not too often good and well planned. Your map will make a
differance to the whoe horror map genre. Nice work indeed, if
you feel like the whole project is overwhelming you, and you're
feeling that you may shut it down, because you have lost your
energy working on it, PM me and i'll get you on better thoughts!

Thanks but thats why i have this thread. I can get opinions and feed back here. I worked quite a bit on it today. I need to finish the terrain before i really start the map. Since there are multiple stories i can't make the terrain as i develop the the storyline. Instead I have to build the storyline around the terrain. Witch is quite difficult.

Xeno the map Breakout, that i made like 3 years ago has 3 differant endings. I belive it is the download database smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Nemus on 2004-07-23 at 03:40:56
That sounds difficult, but as always, anything that
is difficult always gives a good result! smile.gif

I have downloaded and played it, but i got killed by
the guards all the time (wasnt careful enough smile.gif) so
i quitted it.. Maybe i should try again, it sounds good.

Are (U) a mapmaking or gameplaying clan? Or both? smile.gif

I might do the intro in the morning if i have time. I'm going to need some nice car horn noises to go with traffic picture. smile.gif

I havn't looked for any yet but i imagine i could find them really easly.

May I suggest tanks or vultures as vehicles, Wraiths just look out of place.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2004-07-23 at 10:33:42
A working traffic!

Anyways I thought wraiths was a little wierd.
If you want realistic use tanks.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShadowSnipe4 on 2004-07-23 at 10:39:11
Ya it just seems as if wraiths should be airplanes or something.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by (U)Bolt_Head on 2004-07-23 at 13:26:04
gound units will not walk a diaginal path strait from point A to B. So quite simply they would not stay on the road. I will consider using tanks or vultures but i will have to make a system that orders it to move like every 3 tiles, or it will driive off the road.

Thanks for the suggestion however.

(U) is a mapmaking clan. They have been around for about 3 years, they only recruit expert mapmakers. Go to the (U) section of this site to find a link to the webpage and all that kind of information.

this might change what you were planning on but how bout its starts where your in 1 of a wraith (Car) and they are talking and they go to theyre house and then they see theyre parents missing and then traps and stuff happend arounds and at end they might see an unexpecting surprise of who has made all these traps

Its a good idea but just a suggestion if u need some ideas

Well Bolt, if the road is only for a little flashback part, I say go for it.

I dont mean to sound impolite, but in Tux's map
"Kill Me!" there were plenty of car sounds blink.gif
