Well a conclusion to the first omega test :S not very succesful considering only 1 person came but i understant its hard to get times in different parts of the world... soo what i would hope to do is since everyone is at school during the week : we can do it during the weekend in the groups : for change alpha team will be saturday 8:00 pm gmt+1 (only time i can) if you just want to go ahead a test with another member of alpha team then go ahead but please not with a friend thats not on any of the lists as i dont think tux wants it to be spread to a vast area of people..

Correct. But if you have someone you trust to test with you can ask me or marandule or have them post here, and I wouldn't mind adding them. Otherwise, save the public testing for the public, playable version

Todays test : Soo far i can report 2 bugs during my test with zeratul-101.

1st bug = what i did was buy a floating base and a nuclear laser ... i refunded the base first and then refunded the lazer in order to buy a floating fortress but it didnt seem to give me 500 minerals .... instead all i got was 38 minerals :S.

Ok. Thanks for pointing that out.

QUOTE
2nd bug = when a player dies ... we had 2 or 3 overlord miss placed unit error appear..
i think sumin to do with the overlord at the top left of the map.

That one I'm gonna need more information for. Was it a pilot death or a mech cockpit death? What mech mode where you in when you died, if it's the latter? What players were in the game?

QUOTE
I tested what I could in single player, and every time I tried to deploy my mech it said something like "Too close to map edge to morph". What am I doing wrong, Tux?

Oh, and also the vulture pilot description's last word is blue, while the rest of the sentance is white... it's blue because it's on a new line.

The text description I'll clean up later. Low priority at the moment.

The edge bug though has occured before, but I'm not certain why. What player were you? Were you away from the edge when the morph occured.

You know what, forget it. I'm just gonna remove that map edge schtick. I think I solved the earlier unplaceables problems anyway, and should at least assume Blizzard programmers weren't that stupid when programming the unit creation functions to not allow them to be unplaceable simply by being near the edge. closedeyes.gif

Ok, that cuts out my work for the next day or two. Thanks for the test. Anyone manage to get any fighting in?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Marandule1 on 2006-11-22 at 13:01:38
better prefered if you look up the time 8:00pm gmt+1 into ur own time.

ADDITION:
ok the bug with the overlords was when the pilot dies.... the overlords for that player on the top left of the map all go to their own locations as if placed there but looks like their trying to move to the corner... + 2 or 3 overlords were being created and were misplaced.

I can give you my Thing map, where I used a method of replacing a smaller unit with a bigger one without any bugs. It morphs perfectly near walls, in small passages and stuff like that. I don't fully understand why it works though. blink.gif

Naw that's cool. That map edge blocker is a holdover from a previous debugging session, but I probably don't need it anymore.

So you figured out how to use the mechs then? tongue.gif

In the future, for any games you schedule, could you add on a lag report as well? The triggers at work for this are pretty hefty, and I can only hope they won't consistently make lag an issue. I may have to downsize some of the triggers if it does it too often.

So for us who are too dumb to relise (Or care about other time zones smile.gif) what time is the testing in Eastern Time? >_>

Report, edit, etc...Posted by Marandule1 on 2006-11-22 at 13:14:47
happy.gif there was no lag except for me unfortunatly sad.gif
btw i think i should add to the amazingly depressing area that The Blood Chamber thread is now closed sad.gif
i wont explain just yet why but for the moment it could either be a suprise or the demised for "The Blood Chamber"

Suspense?

By the way, I added Echo to Omega team. He should be sending you a PM eventually.

Plus when I have the prototype for the tiered terrain and the current bug list done, I'll be sending out an update copy to everyone.

If possible, try to work around some of the bugs for now and tell me how the gameplay fares for balance. That's really my main target right now.

ok well the fighting is hard to do when switching from 1 mode to another cause it takes awhile for the units to attack ... i think its caused by them being moved constantly but i dont mean like i kept it on mobile and sat there like a duck but more like i went into assult and controled my units but they didnt seem to attack like they should when you like move them out of the zone... which they should cause they always have a last shot at units. to put it simplely ... try making the zone a little smaller soo as the attacking units look more mech like xD ... they dont look very mechish when about 5 muta lengths away happy.gif.

Anyone think the marines are super underpowered? 2 damage compared to a ghost with 25?

Is there a lag in the attack time you're saying? Do they simply not respond for awhile, shoot infrequently, or is the range restriction to blame? Not sure I understand.

I'm gonna need replays of these from now on. I think I can understand them better if I can see what's going on directly. So just play normally, and send me the replays. That'll work best I think.

Updates for the testing :

¤ 1stly i asign Zeratul-101 as a lead tester for alpha team which ill follow up why bellow.

¤ 2ndly as testers tuxedo has asked me as to save the replays in order to show him what went wrong if any bugs could accure.

Ok then ... zera has been asigned as a lead tester for alpha team not just because he was the only person that showed up... but it will also help alot and i mean alot if on saturday during the weekend at 8:00 pm gmt + 1 hour that both of us can have control over 2 teams at the same time soo what i propose doing is this...

Saturday at 8:00pm
Zeratul control Team Alpha In Channel Alpha to test the map version "no mechs"

Where as i will control Team omega in channel Omega to test "Only mechs"

if i dont show up then sry i was probably away...

How about tomorrow then (Friday)?

Tomorrow let's notch things up a bit. I'll (try) to help do a test sometime, despite my lat issues. I'm thinking right around the time you east guys get off school (which should be around noon for me, pacific time) I'll be available (useast, as always). If someone can help with hosting, then lets do a few test sessions with the feature enabled version. I'll try to have the prototype tiered terrain ready by then.

Progress Report: Surprising enough, only just now got my first real (near) full house test. Bugs galore. Worst of all, there was lag to boot (from the mech deployments I think). Fortunately there were no game ruining bugs, but I have to admit that we're far from the point of being able to do formal balance testing. disgust.gif

The good news is I managed to track down that damn overlord bug (dunno if my fix works though), removed the map edge deployment blockers, and (to everyone who hasn't gotten to re-test) updated the terrain to an early version of the tiered model.

I haven't yet got to test the missile launchables, which are going to be important to do so pretty soon. However, I'm gonna need to fix up some of the mech systems first, so that'll probably not be today.

Thanks for the tests. I'll be calling on you again later when I'm ready.

ill only be able to test tomoz at 8:00pm as i got a study course work to do...
on topic as requested from tux... but dunno if he has chosen any for the job yet but he asked for another leader tester to participate in this map... not saying as im getting a boot up the ass and passing the job onto sum 1 else happy.gif but i dunno what tux ment.

Okay, so the test is on Saturday at 8PM GMT +1?

In the future, might it be better to use battle.net time to coordinate these things since b.net time is the same for everyone (I think)?
