Well you know what? Weather you can unprotect Proedit 1.4.1 in one step or not, it's still the best protection. That is a fact.

I'm only trained in use of VB, which is rather limiting, although thats what ProEdit was made with...

I really don't know any program that can ignore what it 1.4.1 does to the strings. This includes SCMToolkit, SCMDrafts (all downloadable public versions, yes, including v1), StarForges, PROEdits (yes...), SCU, GUEdit, etc...

So, how are you trying to tell me that you could get a bunch of programs to open it without spending any time with a hex editor?

That's good that you think that. Luckily few people know about it.

How can you be so sure?

If people weren't so dumb aboubt not giving credit to people who made the original maps, then we wouldn't have to protect them. It is too bad that we have to resort to such measures to protect something that should be honored.

It isn't really people here, its the general public on B.net. 95%+ of the people here would have the sense and decency not to steal, modify, or copy maps if we left them unprotected.
But, what DeathKnight says is true. I even know about it (though I haven't used it). I also know there are some counters being developed...

We have to give credit to Robi for discovering it and telling this mapmaking community smile.gif. This way people will know about it and act upon it. BlizzHackers doesn't know about it yet (luckily). If you seriously don't believe us, then good for you, I won't spend hours trying to convince you.

You can always ask Robi to unprotect a map for you just to show that he can do it. wink.gif

The reason why StarEdit.Net exists is to help mappers. This will help so that they won't resort to measures such as unprotecting maps to see how to do the triggering. The reason why there is map protectors is to prevent those idiots from stealing our maps. We want to have credit for making them. It's actually "illegal" to steal maps but of course, these maps are digital property of Blizzard.

You Idiots, the reason things like this spread is because people like you talk about it.
