Getting back to the subject;

looking towards this Dropping sequence, i'd be interested in how you'd work it, because i'd used a system whereas the player had a Location over himself, and if upto 10 monsters entered, each was giving a Location for themselves, using a Burrowed unit to keep them different, and once they died, or left the arena, it would drop or wait for another.

[ ON TOPIC ]

I really like the idea of the Mint Drop freezing enemies, and that you fight approx. 1-2 enemies at a time happy.gif, i was just wondering...are the boss fights going to be as cool or better then the last boss in Legacy of Haean?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2004-12-19 at 16:50:00
Definitely better. You know how there were 4 archons in that last room? Well, they were SUPPOSED to change positions every time, but I got lazy with the triggers at the end. But another thing to keep in mind is that not all emphasis is on bosses. Sometimes it's getting to the boss that's the hard part.

In addition: I haven't really been working these last few days. I'm a bit sick at the moment. Also, tetris.

Do you mean setting up the terrain and story leading up to the boss? I'm just checking because I'm not quite sure.

Hope you get better soon.

I know you said it has no relation to LoH, but I'm wondering why you chose to make this map on the continent Hæan then? Did you just think it would be neat, or is there a reason it's the same continent?

Ooh, wow, your making another map! Awesomeness smile.gif

I personally think you should also post this at WarBoards too, it looks pretty awesome.

Advertising to another site, dangerous game! Joke...

O wow... I totally forgot about warboards! Haven't been there in ages. I think I'll wait until this is finished before posting it there.

After playing Fable, I wanted to make a way so when you kill a monster, it drops an item called 'exp' and other items as well such as 'potion' or whatever. It was pretty easy if you have a battle system where the player is transport to an arena in a corner to fight. What I did was have 5 squared in cages. According to what monsters will be fought by switches or whatever it places them one at a time into the squares. Then a location is given to each one of them. Then they are moved to the actual arena where if the unit in the location dies it creates the items. And to avoid clutter I just made the items/exp collectable when you walked near them instead of having a 'pick up' command. I guess you could do this without an arena battle system but I would think that the locations would get mixed up if they were centered when they entered the player's unit's location.

Just create a burrowed unit, different for a few locations and each one can centre over a different unit to show it.

Is this TBC?

I would've thought it would be RTC like His other map...

Anyway Im looking forward to this map as said many times before but... I can't understand the items... I asked before but no one answered my question...

When you buy a herb it says you only get 1 hp... How much hp do you have in total? Because If you only get 1 hp from that thing and your max hp is high... Then how easy is it to get SEED in this map... In LoH i remember sitting there for 5 minutes before i got any...

PS: Pirate I noticed you changed your avatar back again...
Or is that one new?

You're exactly correct. The combat is all in real time.

QUOTE

You have UP TO 20 HP max. You actually start out with 5 HP your maximum HP can be increased by doing quests, games, finding secrets, items, etc. It's kinda like the heart system in Zelda -- find heart pieces or heart containers to increase max health.

Since every enemy will drop SOMETHING, I expect SEEd will be fairly easy to get. There won't be large masses of enemies, but they will keep spawning. The average reward for each kill will be 3 SEED or 3 SEED worth of drops.

It's a little known fact that I used to be an animator...

So basically it will grow on the previous RPG you created, in terms of gameplay, with a different story line as it were.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheOddAngel on 2004-12-20 at 15:12:33
K thx pirate you answered all my questions...

So you only have 20 hp max... So you start out with 5 hp max... Then you do quests and you will be able to get more max hp... Did I get that correct?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-12-20 at 15:15:02
I'm pretty sure that's what he means.

Is it virtual HP?, because I can't think of any other way other than medics to heal HP on a unit because calculating damage can be an issue.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheOddAngel on 2004-12-21 at 13:52:17
ya on the first page it said it was virtualy Hp...

Although you could have it not virtual if you had 10 hp...
1 hp outa 10 is 10%...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2004-12-21 at 14:26:37
It's really not virtual HP at all. You see how much HP you have on your unit, and it's not like other maps where every time your unit dies you lose 1 HP and get another unit in the same place. OddAngel has the right idea.

Updates:
  • 'Treasure Chest' system has been added.
  • Armor system tweaked - fixed rare bug.

What's this 'Treasure Chest' System?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2004-12-21 at 17:50:04
He is probably speaking about monster drops.

I don't think a treasure chest requires a lot of work put into it, I mean you just open a chest and random things can happen.

he did one of the two things that i stated.

Off Topic:

In LoH I finaly got to vent only to discover that he wants you to go to the temple... So when i got there the story unfolded... While i was reading I understood why everyone said your story was soo good... With the lumins and stuff... The egg being hæans spirit... Very good I hope this map will have a great story line...

May I ask what kind of armor system you're using, qPirateKing? I'm eager to learn what makes it so unique, especially as I've seen it mentioned in other threads.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2004-12-23 at 12:58:25
Hmm... that's a good question. Well, I assure you that the armor systems mentioned in other threads are nothing like mine. If that doesn't make it unique, I don't know what does. Some people have suggested that it is something like Truer D2 [or whatever] where your unit becomes invincible and you have a separate unit following you around to absorb the damage. This is a misconception -- my system is nothing like that. I guess you'll just have to see it for yourself when I release a demo or something because I don't really want to explain it in depth.
