Umm usually people do it by giving the player a certain combination of numbers and/or letters that corrospond to the level/exp/money that the person has.

so, if i got my heroe to level 20 & got 5 healing potions, i "enter" digits 20 & 5 somewhere in the beginning of the map & i get a heroe of level 20 with 5 healt potions ? but people will fake it to get all maximum items & stats then. blink.gif

All possabillities must be scrambled using a coding system and then unscrambled using a decoding system in the next game. # of items and level can be stored in less then that, if you are confused, please PM Shady or Lethal.

This is not the 'What is a save system?' thread.

That music was alright, a bit synthy sounding. Why is the artist tilted as "GTA" on the file? Is this guy just limewiring Grand Theft Auto soundtrack pieces or something? I'd also like to note that full music is going to give you a huge filesize.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2006-05-03 at 20:34:27
Looks like you guys are going all out on this one. Nice music, btw. If the quality is good enough, there shouldn't be any reason people won't download the map in spite of the extra file size. Just be sure to keep it all in one release. I learned that lession the hard way awhile back.

Unless you plan on having over 5 hours of gameplay, there's not much point to a password system. Normal saves, though limited, should work just fine.

wilhelm, GTA is my friend's initials: Gary Taylor A............ i prefer not to give out his whole name. youre overly critical btw. take a chill pill. And if u read any of the previous pages with comments regarding the music. He said that he didnt want this music being used for anything, it was the lowest quality of the low. he was reluctant to even email me it. ill be seeing him in about a week thought, and then he will be sitting down with me and wooden, probably in my basement, and we will work out exactly what we want. Have no worries, the music will be extremely impressive, and very compressed (im assured without loosing quality)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by WoodenFire on 2006-05-03 at 21:56:29
Even with a slighty loss of quality to create them into WAVs, the music's main sound will be near crystal-clear quality and will be ezily re-compressed.

I think that Wilhelm thinks we are using these massive 3Mb music files for the map... You are not getting why we put these Demos up. This is just what his friend had off-hand...

The Loops will not be more then 200kbs each and the full songs no more then 1MB. There will most likely be 3 full songs, and a max of 9 loops.

These will cover storyline moods, cinematics, battles, and anything inbetween including Credits and Introduction music.

Heh, guess i'm not the only one who writes poetry for maps. Niiice writing.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by WoodenFire on 2006-05-04 at 07:00:14
When I hit 100% for terrain, I am going to move on to writing far more. Probably I will hit a quota of adding 50-100 lines a day. But I can't do much further than the introduction because of brainstorming needs and pre-storyline thinkings

I just compressed that huge 2.3MB file download to 700kb WAV and it sounds like the exact same... When I compressed it to 150kbs, I had a little fuzz. Lol.

Yea, music is definately a bit midi-ish. I really hope this guy's better pieces are indeed better, because it sort of seems as if you're overhyping this a bit. It's usually more effective to leave some things in the dark and then 'wow' the audience when they actually play the map.

If the gameplay is expected to take 6+ hours, you're sure that the built-in save system for SC will work with this, yes?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by WoodenFire on 2006-05-05 at 06:22:41
Yes the in-game save will serve us adiquitly.

The music is indeed much better that we have in store for the map and if you think that music was bad... there is no other map with music of that quality so I don't know where you are coming from with this post? Are you comparing it to like... a Movie? or music CD?

Lol... we are talking about an RPG here, not your favorite-band's METALLICA music

I will definitely not be using my own guitar riffs in this... it won't set the mood as well as professionally composed music.

THANK YOU!

Someone else who knows how music is supposed to be... A good example of music was used in Legacy of Haen. Not so much the techno part, more so the ups and downs the msuci carried.

If the music stays upbeat and "going-going-going" the music begins to get annoying, and most players turn it off. If the music stays in a slow, melodic beat the whole time... O want to get a pillow out and take a nap.

This is not an attack on the music, or your map. So before you get elitist on me, this is just a mere suggestion, and an ellaboration of what DoomGaze stated. If you don't believe me, ask Moogle about music. He know's his RPG music. tongue.gif

I'm digging the music. Not to weird, and very calm. I don't know what that guy was talking about when he said it sounded to sythysized.... Only the symbols sound to good to be a really drummer. Everything else is right on. What part of the map is this going to be played in? (towns-shops-outworld-cutscene) Not battles I hope... As long as it's not in battles it will be a great piece. I hope you reach your deadline. Good luck!

This is just some music he had laying around... This was created by him and not copied from another source. I agree with everything you guys have suggested.

Another post on this subject saying that this is the exact music that will appear in the game will be designated a flame and spam.

You people should stop complaining and attacking and instead, start supporting the production.

Alrighty. I had to delete the 1st sample music file because im still a "newbie" on sen and i have very limited MB alotment. So now that 40 of you have dled the first one; this is file #2, more ~mood~ driven, enjoy.

I have a hard time believing you're friend can create symphonic-esque sounds without atleast some live sound, as simluated strings suck ass.

thats from, ignoramous--dr.shotgun, id like you all to key in on the '"simlauated" strings sucking ass' part, while listening to this.
