Trigga, I didn't give you permission for public testing.

Grr, you guys are all getting on my nerves. No more testing until it's ready to be tested. And even if I'm gonna release this unlocked, I don't want early versions of it floating around, ok?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TRiGGaMaSTa on 2005-05-03 at 23:47:10
OMG, you're sooo gulible... I was joking obviously, it's the map makers code of honor to never spread anothers map.. I don't want you to start thinking differently about me now, sorry.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-05-04 at 00:28:56
Bah, whatever. I stopped letting people test because it's setting the wrong impression as to what the finished product will be like. Spreading it just adds to that. I know there are a few that have been showning it off, so I think I'm done publicly testing it until I get it near release-quality first.

Jeez, so serious.

Still a great map...

Man Tux, how do you ever find time to juggle all these maps you make? (though I'd assume that some of them don't even get finished)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-05-04 at 22:49:54
I'm not talking about you two, trigga and rexy. But meh, doesn't matter. I'm not point fingers at anyone. Just getting frustrated these past few days is all.

Starman, most of my maps are on hold. I spend 1-2 hours a day on rush at most, as I actually am somewhat busy lately. I'm not bound to any hard commitments though, for the time being, so I'm trying to get a few projects done while I still can.

Don't worry, just take your time, rushing it will just make the map crappy, and we don't want that. At least for me, I'd rather wait 2 months to play a good game, then play one of those crap games... biggrin.gif

As much as I'd like to think that's true, please be realistic. As I've often heard said from older mapmakers, the only maps that "own Bnet forever" are ones that have no substance and are easily downloadable. Sadly, the times have changed for worse.
Due to the fact that you can buy the expansion with the normal Starcraft disc, newbs come onto the expansion without any single player what-so-ever, causing the destruction of Starcraft. I was fortunate, for I had 5 years training of normal Starcraft even though Brood War was out. But you probably could care less about that. Then the Bound Age came. We thought we were striving to a new era. Indeed, it WAS a new era, but not to what we had thought. Starcraft is now on the brink of destruction, overshadowed by the pitiful WCIII (I have heard that WCII is much better).
And now, here you are, people of sen, sitting here, believing that Starcraft is fine because of your fancy editors and quite awesome terrain which is made.
But those editors never reach the people.

The terrain just stays locked up in little .jpeg files.

'Tis the Rolling 20s before the fall.

Triggamasta, he was saying he'd rather WAIT for Tux's map then for a "crappy" game

Now I don't speak of this to hinder Tuxedo.

It's just... good games on Starcraft... just never last.

It is a cruel fate of Starcraft. Slowly, RPGs are being forgotten (Try to think of 5 others than Xuru), great maps are being lost (SC Tennis NOOOOOO). Defenses, golems, and matrixes dominate the UMS empire.

It is a slow process of entropy, and I have been constantly trying to find a way to stop it. Good luck, templar.

Kirby... very true facts, Bounds got old fast, but as people made harder and harder ones, people kept playing them, because it was a challange. "Rush" will most likely be the best SC game, but since it's only 2 players, i don't think it will get very popular. Probably because only friends will be able to play it together. I have 1 friend that played a rpg with me for 5 hours in total (we saved a few times). Although this wil be a great rpg, it won't last... sadly enough

Note: How much time did u have to make that... 'post'

I never said this was meant to be a bnet map. This will rely on spreading mainly by sites like SEN, SC.org, etc., as well as word of mouth. Normally this would spell doom for any map's chances of spreading beyond a handful of people, but you'd be surprised how effective word of mouth can be, when it carries well enough. I figure if I make something truely impressive and worthwhile, then it will be able to get around regardless of the obstacles, simply because people won't be able to forget it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by StarmanJr. on 2005-05-06 at 10:32:38
Just because you don't see a map hosted doesn't mean it's not popular. Most maps that have a small amount of players (in this case, 2) are usually played among friends and spreads among other friends. It's just wierd to be playing a 2 player map with someone you don't really know. Hell, if anyone can make a 2 player map popular, I'm pretty sure Tux can do the job.

How are you going to manage to make P2 unlockable? Now that the trigger viewer is out, no secrets to maps can be made, so it blows my defense, bounds with secrets, and secrets in maps. So the only safe way is emailing the replay of their game to you...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-05-07 at 00:43:05
Well, the idea I had is to scatter the triggers for reading the password system across all the other triggers for other players, such that it would be impossible to pick them out to an untrained eye. It won't be foolproof, but it's not like someone who beats the game couldn't just tell everyone else the password either.

Well being that you're on, can you get on SC?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-05-07 at 14:15:36
Just becuase the trigger viewer is out, that doesn't mean that you can't have passwords. Just use a map compresser to make it so all the locations are the same name.
Also, if your really desperate, it is possible to make it so the trigger viewer can't read you maps. Read the trigger veiwer topic in the portal news section or PM DeathKnight for more infomation.

Compression takes away Location names and Trigger Viewer does not act upon Location names...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-05-07 at 17:38:19
Ok, becuase it does location numbers instead of names. It's pratically impossible for them to figure out the password anyway if you put the password triggers in at random intervals and make the password locations at random times.

Tux, when you say pure action i know yu mean it, cause that's all it is, which is a good thing, but can you add some puzzles? cause i love good puzzles in maps, like in half life. That was cool using the gravity gun to sovle puzzles...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Rantent on 2005-05-08 at 00:34:49
I like it when you combine the two, where the puzzles make up sections of the game where enemies exsist, such as any of the Zelda series.
