$15 is nothing. For four years, playing WoW would cost about $550 - That's only $550 while 1/20 of your total life passes. You people keep thinking as if 4 years was a short amount of time.

15$ for you 20$ for me since australian, no big issue. Very check compared to other MMORPG's. I play it alot my current quickest lvl time is 4 days 18 hours about 80% Questing and 20% Grinding, whoohoo alliance ^_^;

You keep saying $15, $15. Who ever say that 4 years was short? 1460 days. Its just into your whole life its short, Like you said 1/20 of your life. But you say $550. Lets put this into your mind. Right now if you played Starcraft and not WoW, you could still have that lots of fun playing Starcraft as you did WoW but have almost enough money for a PS3. That would be more fun than WoW for 4 years right.

Not everyperson here will live 80 years. I'd say 550$ is a lot when it comes down to it. Saving money is a way to succeed into life. Say, if I invested 550$ and earned 15000$. That'd be a big profit. And yes, that happened before.

Uh, I don't think Starcraft is really that fun... you might, you're free too, but if other people felt that way don't you think they'd be playing Starcraft instead of WoW? Who wants to waste money...

The thing is that people likes different things. Apparently more likes WoW than they do Starcraft, even so much that they'd pay to play it.

In the very most cases it's not a question of economy, it's taste.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-29 at 17:28:20
Ya its moslty taste, but I dont see how that overcomes the $180 a year it costs to play it. Considering Starcraft is 0. And yes it may not be as good, which in my mind it is. Its all around better.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-11-29 at 17:31:38
$550 may be a lot for you to just have. But it's normally about 1/5 of the standard salary; if you have a good job, 1/10 or even just 1/20 of how much you get per month once you're an adult. That's for four years, 1/20 or more of your life, that you get to play a game you find awesome. I'd say it's worth it. And you don't need a PS3 if you have WoW tongue.gif.

(WoW < Starcraft + PS3) anyday. This is what I am saying. You could either play WoW for four years and spend the money or play Starcraft for four years and have enough money to buy a PS3.

Okay, I think we have concluded that both Starcraft and WoW are very god games. Others think that Starcraft is better and others think WoW is better. Some think it is okay to spend 15 dollars a month for WoW and others dont. Since that opinions rarely change, this topic should be locked or the discussion should be changed back to what the topic was started by:

I've seen a lot of "Starcraft is better and it's free" related comments and I'll beg to differ. I've been playing Starcraft since way back in 1998 and I have only one thing to say, after playing the game for about 8 years (I stopped playing summer 2006), it gets boring. It doesn't matter if you create new maps at will, it gets boring seeing the same things over and over again.

When the expansion came out it opened a whole bunch of possibilities, but that was it, all new content was produced via maps. The cost was cheap though, about $40 for the game and $30 for the expansion at the time. Which is another thing I wanted to bring, don't compare the current $20 with WoW's retail price of $50. On a retail basis, they cost the same since prices have gone up recently and if SC was released today, it'd cost the same as WoW if it was today what it was back in 1998.

WoW has a monthly fee for a reason, and that is for it's massive patches. It's like a new expansion every 4 months with new dungeons, events, systems and many more things. Since the time of release 2 years ago, there have been 3 Battlegrounds, 2 5-man dungeons, 2 20-man dungeons and 4 40-man dungeons. The PvP system was also implemented and will be redefined in the patch to come out next week. There are numerous events, a whole zone has been recreated for a massive worldwide event (Silithus) and every single class has been revised. That's a whole lot of content just for patches and no other game has received a fraction of the amount of content that WoW has without an expansion. Once WoW: Burning Crusade comes out, it won't be an expansion, its a whole new world. It has a similar amount of content for level 70 to that of which we currently have at level 60. It doubles endgame content.

So you are paying for content and server maintenance each month. Can't really say that $15 isn't worth it if you haven't seen what updates the game receives with those $15.

How many non-expansion content updates did all the other Blizzard games receive for free? Yeah, pretty much nothing besides bug fixes, and minor content for WC3 and D2.

Is WoW a waste of time? It is impossible to know, but it is defined logically that it is on par of every other video game out there, including Starcraft. Why? Because you achieve the same thing with it, personal satisfaction, a few friends and nothing else. You can't state that you made a map, a strategy or played more games in Starcraft than in WoW because they are different game genres and it is nearly impossible to compare them.

And what would you achieve with a PS3? The exact same thing as all other games. Play with a few friends while staring at a screen. Also by the WoW < Starcraft + PS3 assumption that you made, you are stating that WoW is greater than Starcraft and greater than the PS3 on an individual basis.

Alright then. Paying $15 a month isn't part of the addiction it is the most required thing in order to create and maintain that addiction, without it you can't be addicted.

Also don't go around saying that this topic should be locked because you think so, there's a report function for that and you better have a good reason for doing so besides that you think the topic drifted a little bit from it's original intentions. I still see a very good discussion by which most of us would like to continue. If you feel displeased that you no longer can hold the discussion because you have ran out of things to say or you said the same thing over and over again just to be easily countered, then that is your problem and not ours. Please leave this thread if you don't like the current outcome of it, there are numerous excellent threads out there by which to have a decent discussion.

Start following the pro-scene in SKorea, I bet your interest will be revitalized. They have absolutly amazing skill, and they've only gotten better over the years. What seemed very good a few months ago is now considered standard and almost obsolete compared to the new styles of play. Melee has pretty limitless entertainment value, since you can play the same map so many different ways, and really creative and interesting maps are coming out rapidly. For me at least, longevity is not a problem with StarCraft, it just depends on how you play the game. People who have played melee since the game came out are still competing (even unprofessionally).

Er, ontopic: I think all games have their deviants. From the person who got too into role playing before our time (and ended up commiting homocide) to the person who played StarCraft for 50+ hours and died, to the person who plays FPS and happens to be a murderer. It's not about what game you're playing, it's about for stable you are as a person.

PS: I could never really get into WoW. It just wasn't fun for me. Everyone told me "Well it's awesome when you're level 60!"... Well then the game should start at level 60 =P Each to their own really. It's whatever you find the most entertaining.

Do you see any of my recent posts in any forum that has to do with starcraft? I think not. I come here because I like the community, not because I don't play starcraft.

Ditto. And everything Beer said; they're actually changing the whole PvP system and expanding it, adding in extra features for looking for groups, adding new races.. And what does Starcraft get for it's 0$ per month? Nothing.

Honestly, I'd rather have professionally made updates and features than ametuer maps for an old game. Not saying Starcraft is bad, I'm saying WoW, IMO, is my favored of the two.

WoW patches have a nice tendancy to nerf things, and if you don't get the new patch, you don't get to play. Hell, my class is virtually useless now.

I'm still downloading the patch on this pretty lacking apartment internet connection. I left it to run overnight but my computer hibernated because of the power saving options. Yeah, I got owned.

Anyways, every single patch nerfs/buffs a class, there is no question about it. I got a 60 warrior and a 55 druid(my main) and the warrior will be rendered almost useless right now.
