I've seen a lot of "Starcraft is better and it's free" related comments and I'll beg to differ. I've been playing Starcraft since way back in 1998 and I have only one thing to say, after playing the game for about 8 years (I stopped playing summer 2006), it gets boring. It doesn't matter if you create new maps at will, it gets boring seeing the same things over and over again.
When the expansion came out it opened a whole bunch of possibilities, but that was it, all new content was produced via maps. The cost was cheap though, about $40 for the game and $30 for the expansion at the time. Which is another thing I wanted to bring, don't compare the current $20 with WoW's retail price of $50. On a retail basis, they cost the same since prices have gone up recently and if SC was released today, it'd cost the same as WoW if it was today what it was back in 1998.
WoW has a monthly fee for a reason, and that is for it's massive patches. It's like a new expansion every 4 months with new dungeons, events, systems and many more things. Since the time of release 2 years ago, there have been 3 Battlegrounds, 2 5-man dungeons, 2 20-man dungeons and 4 40-man dungeons. The PvP system was also implemented and will be redefined in the patch to come out next week. There are numerous events, a whole zone has been recreated for a massive worldwide event (Silithus) and every single class has been revised. That's a whole lot of content just for patches and no other game has received a fraction of the amount of content that WoW has without an expansion. Once WoW: Burning Crusade comes out, it won't be an expansion, its a whole new world. It has a similar amount of content for level 70 to that of which we currently have at level 60. It doubles endgame content.
So you are paying for content and server maintenance each month. Can't really say that $15 isn't worth it if you haven't seen what updates the game receives with those $15.
How many non-expansion content updates did all the other Blizzard games receive for free? Yeah, pretty much nothing besides bug fixes, and minor content for WC3 and D2.
Is WoW a waste of time? It is impossible to know, but it is defined logically that it is on par of every other video game out there, including Starcraft. Why? Because you achieve the same thing with it, personal satisfaction, a few friends and nothing else. You can't state that you made a map, a strategy or played more games in Starcraft than in WoW because they are different game genres and it is nearly impossible to compare them.

(WoW < Starcraft + PS3) anyday. This is what I am saying. You could either play WoW for four years and spend the money or play Starcraft for four years and have enough money to buy a PS3.
And what would you achieve with a PS3? The exact same thing as all other games. Play with a few friends while staring at a screen. Also by the WoW < Starcraft + PS3 assumption that you made, you are stating that WoW is greater than Starcraft and greater than the PS3 on an individual basis.

Since that opinions rarely change, this topic should be locked or the discussion should be changed back to what the topic was started by:
Alright then. Paying $15 a month isn't part of the addiction it is the most required thing in order to create and maintain that addiction, without it you can't be addicted.
Also don't go around saying that this topic should be locked because you think so, there's a report function for that and you better have a good reason for doing so besides that you think the topic drifted a little bit from it's original intentions. I still see a very good discussion by which most of us would like to continue. If you feel displeased that you no longer can hold the discussion because you have ran out of things to say or you said the same thing over and over again just to be easily countered, then that is your problem and not ours. Please leave this thread if you don't like the current outcome of it, there are numerous excellent threads out there by which to have a decent discussion.
