You people are all wasting your time even talking about this. About 20 pages of this thread is BS about people complaining, or asking about a release date. Wtf does it matter what you think or what you want?? Wooden is doing this for personal satisfaction. You (SEN Members) and I both know that he is the best at what he does, along with Lethal with what he does-- but none of us (the non-noobs) say it, why? Because its stupid to state the obvious. So Wooden is simply saying that he is the best in a more sophistocated way--By doing something by Proving it. None of you can say anything, and they're is no point in combating this post because i dont value opinions of the impatient and immature, and no that isnt all of you, there are some exceptions far and few between tucked away in the layers of the SEN population, but i speak broadly to you all. Don't hold your breath and waste your lives obsessing over this, and critiqueing a map that you probably havent even had the opportunity to see first hand. It will come out when it does, and one day in the not so distant future you will log on to B.net, go to "join game" and as you scroll, you see "Crescent Dyne" or "New Cool RPG" or something. So until then simply-- Stop.

Hey, if you think it's spam, don't respond. Makes you just as guilty are they are. So, please ignore them. That's my advice -- Please don't flame at me for my comment O.O'
LestisPolcate, first of all, i never addressed you, or anyone personally in my post, then i even took the measure to prevent posts like yours right after mine by saying,
QUOTE
"they're is no point in combating this post because i dont value opinions of the impatient and immature"
So now that you have responded by saying anything about the post, you now fall into that catagory. You really outdid yourself sir.
My post is to be read, and not responded to. Questions within the post are rhitorical-- meaning: Not to be answered/responded to...
Anyone who reads my original post above yours needs only to think about what i said. By Spamming my post you are defacing your own character, and makes people think even less of you. But how could i expect anything more than that, I cant even say, "act your age." because most of you are only 12-15 any way....
I have no opinion one way or another on Crescent Dyne - it's just another RPG, so far as I'm concerned - but I must say Blacker9Winter comes off as very pretentious. Simply classifying someone as immature and impatient simply because they respond with a different opinion is, in and of itself, very immature.
On the other hand, it'll be done when it's done. Quit badgering WoodenFire.
Lets say we have some many people on SEN. Most of them have at least some interest in the mapping community and the maps.
Of those people, a smaller majority actually make maps. And of those that do make maps, fewer make _good_ maps. And of those that do make good maps, there are even fewer that _attempt_ to make godly, complicated, intricate (and etc) maps. And of those, there are even a handful that actually get past the development and terrain stage.
While the wait only gets longer, just be glad that we'll be seeing a finished product using many of the newer concepts and better map-editting techniques that made SEN what it is now.
everyone needs to stop getting on to other people for doing things that are in their own nature...if people wana make jokes and kid around with it let them...they deserve some enjoyment outa the map after haveing to wait almost a year for even a taste of it
and what im scared of is wooden is gona try to put so much stuff into this map...make it so complex and complicated that its gona take a hour just to scroll threw your inventory...thats why people like to make maps short and sweet...alot of the funnest maps people make on SC are the short n sweet ones...i can play that map where your a vulture trying to get to the bottom of the mountian dodgeing trees before the avalance hits you for hours at a time and still have more fun than if i was playing a "Awsome Complex Super Duper RPG Map" like deathknights 3 or as this one is explained as...so i agree with the guy who said great maps are produced everyday...just not as huge as this one
and blackwinter, stop being a prick just chill and let people be people...no more talky for you
Sorry for my rambling

PS - o yea and who suddenly swung the magic wand of SEN and made wooden the best??? last i heard he was good...but far from the best...there is alot of undiscovered talent out there that just have a life and dont have time to sit down and waste months of there life away makeing a map that they will never get anything worth anything out of, like my friend for instance ... hes prob just as good as the magnificent wooden in terrain(yes i do understand how good wooden is at terrain) and trigger work but hes rarely on anymore. So keep your ignorance to your self pretty please.
-dang if i wrote this much in school i might of passed :\
I like how everyone tries to sound like a smart-head only to promote spam.
It's his map. Let him do his thing. He can postpone it, crunch it, burn it, smoke it etc.
But I don't agree with his ways of dealing with the situation.
It's not nice to infer that the people of sen don't make maps.
It's like saying you are the only one left mapping.
Self-centered aren't you?
saying your opinion isnt spamming...isnt discussion what forums are for :\
Technically that may be true... but there are conversational pieces that more so direct the conversation into a situation that is not warranted or unneccessary, hence spam. This is his thread for his map, how it's supposed to help him or give him good or bad comments
about his map... I don't see anything here helping him (nor me, whatever).
The terrain is looking good so far (there's some help).

Well one thing that he does have a point on, is that he's probably working on the biggest project out there today. I mean the next top competititor was generals, which seems to have stopped, as far as I can tell.
Well, I did give some suggestions and ask some constructive questions earlier on, but at this point, he's not giving much other new products within the map, thus there's really little left to question and converse about. Well, on the bright side, we're still supporting the map thread.
I understand you woodenfire! Its just that I've never finished any rpgs, and I have no idea about the complicated terrains made.
I'm sure this map will end up superb. Wooden is clearly taking his time with this map and putting all his effort into it. That's what will get this map done and that's what will make it great. I look forward to CD.

I disagree.
The quality of a certain part of a map, for example it's terrain or it's triggers, or the map as a whole, is largely a matter of opinion.
It's impossible to say that one map is the "best" map. There is no way to directly express the quality of maps.
This is apparent when contest maps are judged. There are
always people that disagree with the map rankings.
For related reasons you can't say that one map maker is the best at something.

Amen.
All I have to say is that the project is EXTREMELY ambitious, and even if it doesn't turn out well, it's still something to brag about. I've seen Wooden's terrain and that's got to be difficult to imitate. If the map is even 1/10th as good as it's supposed to be, I'm sure it'll still be better than the average map. I doubt I could concentrate on this kind of project as long as wooden has.
I don't think any one on this page has really posted without trying to prove a point to some one else and not Wooden... I want to know what the updates have been since June since im to lazy to remember current progress from before I'd like to be able to read when and what happend compared to before.. BTW I still want to know why you thought CD to be done by June...
QUOTE
im just wondering if you ever expected to finish it by the end of June Wooden...did you miss something or did a problem come up or something else...is the problem big? or whats the dely ganna take....I guess im at the edge of my seat drool.gif
if you finish this before you expire im ganna play it....if I still have Starcraft after my parents divorce... weep.gif
I think that people should just stop posting on this forum about his map and just wait for when its done, i mean really what are we doing here having a spam contest? its like a 3982646 page forum jeeze.
I cant wait till this topic is spammed with 500
"OMG WTF BBQ ITS FINISHED AND IM NOT 40 YET OMG OMG OMG"
Any specific updates wooden? Certain systems complete, or anything like that?

I hope moose won't ban you for that.
To WoodenFire: How will the players be told about the storyline - I guess you won't have enough strings to make normal dialogs, so you'll have to display one big text over the whole screen, right ?
You can exceed the string limit in SCMD2

The size of the string matters. You gain little by putting a lot of text in one string.

So, if one string is too long, it will split the text into two smaller ones ?

i thought there was no acutal string size limit. there is a practical string limit, which was that you could only see the last eleven lines of the string, invalidating all the ones ahead of them.

No.

There is a certain amount of space in a map reserved for strings. The offset goes as high as 65,535. (2 byte value)
Each string takes up 2 plus 1 for each character in the string -- the amount of characters in the string matters.
If you, for some reason, decided to make strings that had 1,000 characters in them, you'd only be able to make 65 of them before you maxed out the string section.
On the other hand, if your strings only had 1 character in them, you'd be about to make over 21,000 strings before maxing out.
