CoolEditPro is a very powerful sound editor. And it's easy to learn.

Jammed, biggrin.gif , you're back, you must see the XCMD.

ADDITION:
time for an update!

currently working on the MUCH improved XCMD.

it has a console(starport), where each of the five units and the unlift command serve as buttons.

it utilizes a three-tier classification style.

1: selecting a user

2: selecting a type of media(audio, text, video)

3: and finally selecting the message you want to play

i'm definitely not going to include sounds in the initial release. if i feel like it, i'll put it in later.

ADDITION:
i'm about 154 triggers from releasing a beta. after a few days, if everything works out fine, i'll release v 0.7(no video or sound), when i find some more time, i'll release the 0.8(with video, no sound). down the road, i'll release the full version with sounds if i feel like it.

Looks like the map is coming along good. If you want to hire me as a terrainer, I might help, just PM me what you need, ill do it for 100 sen minerals. I've been taught by woodenfire so i aint half bad although, im not woodenfire himself. (For Sure)

Just PM me if you're interested. List some things you might need too.

well... its been a few days... and the XCMD hasn't worked out too well pinch.gif . so don't expect it for awhile sad.gif , although progress is being made biggrin.gif .

in other news:

Element-Nature has been added as a tester and will likely be the hell level(ash world) terrain.

in addition, the download count for the fractional reducer doubled while SEN was down blink.gif

ADDITION:
just completed the xcmd - yay! yahoo.gif - have to do some preliminary testing(about two days worth) and then i'll give it to the testers. after that, i'll polish the map up and put it in the thread.

ADDITION:
okay, bad news pinch.gif i've discovered a major logic error(stupid me wallbash.gif) in the system. while it is possible to fix it, it'd be a hell of a lot quicker to just remake the whole map - which is exactly what i'm gonna go. however, i'll be able to 'clean up' some of my triggers in the process and the production will be alot quicker this time around, so it won't be a total waste of time.

You're welcome for my discovering those bugs. I'm glad I can be such an inept idiot tongue.gif. Also, for closing the console, you should have it so you just lift the starport and it removes (or shoots down smile.gif ) the one in the air, and creates another. It'd make it more idiot-proof.

Every time you say something like this, it reminds me how very little I know (and want to know, also) about EUDs.

EUD's have nothing to do with this.

lol, i was originally gonna use EUDs but realized after a series of patches that it wouldn't be very workable.

ADDITION:
okay, its monday and i'm finished the card test map Element-Nature demanded i do finish tongue.gif i'm going to start working on the XCMD 0.7(no video/sound) and release it on wednesday. like i said i would biggrin.gif.

okay, made some revisions to the OP. Some parts are still 'under construction' and they will be until the FRAGS project is completed. also, i've decided to, when attachments come back, to begin releasing commented versions of the test maps. Originally, i was planning to do this, but not until Doom 3 was released, however, due to even more delays, this would make an insanely long time even longer.

oh, just wait till you see the new VCS engine. it'll be VERY customizable. By modifying one trigger, you can independently customize the HP, armor, and include special damage modifiers for 21 unit types*. Also, you can set total carryable ammo, cartridge ammo, and ammo reloading style for 3 different weapons.

*a type of unit differs from other units because it is a different unit or the owner is different.

This particular trigger system will take quite a bit of time due to the sheer volume of triggers. but it will kickass. unfortunately, i can expect huge amounts of lag so i likely won't use this 'engine' form of the system for doom 3.

also, since i can't include very small details, like writing on the wall. do you think that placing observers where these details would go would be an appropiate substitution? when you got close to these and performed an action, you'd get a text message of what you'd see in the game.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-10-28 at 05:01:36
Pick some sprite/doodad and use it instead of an observer. Observers don't stand out that much.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-10-28 at 12:49:51
well, i don't want it to stick out that much. for instance, they have a sticky note on the side of a cabinet. while its not invisible, its not super apprent either.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Element-Nature on 2006-10-28 at 16:24:35
True. Thats a good point. And also you can remove observers, not sprites.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-10-29 at 01:48:34
okay here are 'moddable' aspects of the VCS engine:

HP
armor

attack damage
attack bonuses
weapon range
rate-of-fire
burst amount(how many bullets are used in one burst, like for machine guns)
reloading style
carryable armed ammo(ammo in your gun)
carryable reserve ammo(ammo for reloading)

anymore ideas?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-10-29 at 07:02:51
Randomize the possible points that take damage, like the head, chest, legs.

Chest - 70%
Head - 15%
Legs - 15%
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-10-29 at 12:19:36
maybe, i've been wanting to save percentage-related functions until i found a good decimal system - which i think i've decided almost upon.

also, i've decided to take out the attack radius, it's gonna be just a little too easy to bug up.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-10-29 at 13:44:54
What's the "Decimal system" ? Is it like pie?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-11-01 at 11:56:05
no, its just including decimals(0.1...), cause starcraft doesn't support them.

ADDITION:
okay, production thread is exactly how i like it - just gotta redo descriptions. although now i have no excuse as to why i'm not working on doom 3 pinch.gif . as soon as attachments are back up, i'll post screenshots... of ... math.... and text messages. maybe by that time i'll have the VCS up and running and you'll get to see explosions biggrin.gif .

ps, lethal, we need to talk. i want your opinions on something.

ADDITION:
does anyone know how to do AI?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-11-01 at 11:57:03
AI of who, in what circumstances, agains who?..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zeratul_101 on 2006-11-01 at 12:00:57
how the hell did you post so fast...

anyhow i was talking about computer enemy AI. cause certain enemies exhibit certain behaviors.

eg

trites(which are bascially spiders) tend to jump laterally ifyou're aiming the cursor at them.

and Z-Secs(zombie marines) like to hide behind cover and only tend to advance if they don't see you for awhile, like if you were hiding behind the corner.

basiclly, i was wondering what experiences other people have had and if anyone know any tips or tricks.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-11-01 at 12:04:36
I have some ideas, but all of them require either enemy units having VHP either you triggering it for every part of the map...

Basically... not good.
