Simple and straightforward, exactly what I think it should be.

Kellimus does actually have a point. Perhaps staff should be more restricted to editing by the elite's amounts - and especially to be careful not to mix wounds and reputation. I seriously doubt the global mods and admins would do very much because they can do far worse things than changing some membergroups.

I don't foresee bias on the part of the community though. Any such rating would be completely confidential to all non-staff, who would probably only be able to see how someone rated members to prevent abuse. Perhaps even restricting users below a certain amount from using it at all would prevent the "bandwagon" of people who don't know people rating at random.

QUOTE(DTBK)
I propose quickly coding this system into 4.1, but not using it for anything, so that a study can be conducted on it.

Then either,
a) it can be implemented
b) it can be tweaked, and then examined again
c) it can be scrapped
Now I think that's an excellent idea, whether applied to your method or Moose's (or any other method). smile.gif Trial it for a week, a month (not too long though), and watch it and give it an evaluation - is it indicative of how 'senior' members are, and does it have any effect on the level of flaming or spamming? No harm in testing a system like this (but maybe you should, in the trial period, not allow members to see each others' numbers so they can't complain prematurely).

If you want something simple and straightforward, I think the karma system of a little while back was working well (and was much simpler than anything suggested here)...

But yes, a testing period of one of these systems would be very insightful as to their practicality, I think, and would avoid a lot of the theoretical arguments that are just based on people's thoughts about what might happen.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2006-06-21 at 00:24:52
Yeah, Karma was as simple as it gets. I'm a fan of "magic" complexity so people can't even begin to comprehend how to cheat the system.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by RexyRex on 2006-06-21 at 02:47:13
Keep in mind that there's going to be a decent majority of the community not rating anyone. Which leads to the most active/helpful members getting the most reputation, because they're dealing with a higher variety of members meaning that they have a better chance of recieving "karma", or whatever the term is now.

If that's what it's supposed to be, everyone better rush to Map Making Assistance --screwing everyone in melee/modding, they're not nearly active enough.

So, it's kinda like rewarding the smart people.

Well...you're going to get a lot more whining. I think something should just be done about complaining in general.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2006-06-21 at 03:14:54
I would exect a lot more of "this guy doesn't agree with my opinions in Serious Discussion so I'm gonna give him negative rating".
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kellodood on 2006-06-21 at 13:36:10
That sounds great, but then the people who never admit defeat (Myself sometimes, TheDaddy0420 [More than anyone I know]) will get butt-hurt when they've been proven wrong, and put negative feedback almost every time that they can.

I'm not a little whiney female dog like that, and I can admit when I'm wrong, but most other members here, cannot.

Well, now I'm confused after I just thought about it.

How would the Karma system work?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Golden-Fist on 2006-06-21 at 13:57:38
I'm guessing it'd be like Xbox Live (On the 360) at any point in gaming you can "Review" another person, normally you only get positive reputation when you tell your friends to do so, and you get negative when your acused of cheating or just being good at a match. With the rare case of someone who actually is a detestable human being and gets negative rep.

You should probably limit who can "review" other members. Since if everyone did it, you could make a few accounts on different computers (at school or something) and give yourself a huge boost, or give someone else a negative boost. Or make the -/+ ratio different depending on certain standards. Like if i've been here for 2 years and have 20 billion posts i'd do more damage or help more reputation then someone who joined last year and never posted. I think that was said somewhere, but I was sure so I posted it again.

What would be the point of wasting minerals on a "secret trigger" thing, when most advanced people help the newbs?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Golden-Fist on 2006-06-21 at 17:00:27
Yes, because spamming the boards enough to get 10,000 minerals earns you the right to completely ruin the format of SEN for users on a 800x600 resolution screen.

I agree. Posts like:
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopi...ndpost&p=510770 (even though it is null) don't even make sense. It looks as if you just said random things just to make it lengthy? Especially this part: "nice job DT i agree it should be null." I really don't think agreeing with a moderator's move action is necessary.

Offtopic/Unnecessary:
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopi...ndpost&p=510509

I think you're just rushing out posts. Most of the time your posts don't even make sense.
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopi...ndpost&p=510787 - Uh, the point of the thread WAS to find out what the font was.

A lot of your posts have 2 more more "lol"s in them:
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopi...ndpost&p=510799
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=ST&f...ndpost&p=510253 Plus, in this one, you state you're going to beat Moose in minerals soon.
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=ST&f...ndpost&p=510444

Ignore things about Dafont and FasterFox
QUOTE(RedNara @ Jun 21 2006, 08:22 PM)
Merrell, I agree to you crisiting me but I disagree because that'd make me look bad.

I said there was some fake program called FasterFox which (if exsited) was an add-on to firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1269/]https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1269
So it's not off-topic

I know the second link is off topic, I just don't care.

On the third one I was replying on what yeow was saying. Yeow said it might not been a font, and I pointed out it has a outer glow which is a very high chance that it is a font. However I completely disregarded what you were critising me for, which was making my post longer to get some minerals, sweet deal.

On the fourth, yes I do say lol’s a lot. I say lol because I say "dafont" instead of the font and I find it humourus.

On the fifth one the mini part was not needed, but I was commenting back on what someone else said. (Not witty comments here)

And on the sixth one, once again mini part was not needed. But the whole post is not off topic because I said something relavent. Which means if I was to make a 3 page long post in microsoft word about how awesome I am, and at the very end I said "This is a nice topic" it'd deem the entire post on-topic

The seventh one is the same as third, it took me a while to figure out, and i wasn't sure if you knew or not.

Ok, so from looking at what you said only 2 out of 7 would be considered off-topic, but how does this have to do with anything about my minerals. Only 1 out the 7 link you gave me was a mineral gaining topic. And apparently, I can only spam in topic where I gain minerals, meaning if I were to post "KAKAKAKAKKAKAK" in Null, it's ok because I don't benifit from it. Much like killing the president of another country, it doesn't affect me, so I shouldn't be punished.
I also make sigs and charge insane amounts of minerals in exchange, since I can't do this stuff for free and be nice, I have to be really cool and get 10,000 minerals.

(This next paragraph basically says:)
"What do you mean I posted 109 times in the past 7 days?"

So pretty much the final point is yes I do need to re-read what I post, and I do say lol a lot, I just refuse to correct myself, or I'm lying right now (lol)

You guys also forgot to point out I've been here for nine months, and in that time, I've posted 2,000 times, while other members who've been here for 2 years have posted 2,200 times, they've also never been accused of spamming.

Sorry for being real cranky, I'm allowed to break the rules because of my personal life, (I think about commiting suicide too buddy, doesn't make me impervious to rules)

Also I don’t try to post random stuff, I usually comment back on what someone else post. And also about my grammar and stuff, its not that bad. At least I got a B+ in my English class, but I have no backing of this since no one can understand what I say most of the time. And somehow this really cool guy name Golden-Fist who got a D in english has better grammar then I do.

Why does everyone hate me when I break rules?

I made all those sarcastic comments without breaking rules, you can do it too RedNara. And if your have personal problems it's best to not post on an interent fourm. We only have a problem with you because you spam and all your posts have little to no substance or contributation to the topic other then "THAT WAS GOOD LOL LOL LOL +20 MINERALS"

He couldn't because he didn't understand anything you said. So I translated it. And of course you don't find it funny, I don't think Bush goes on the internet every day and has a good laugh when people make fun of his horrible Charisma. But witty comments aside you should really read it.

Do you finally get it yet? You spammed. I'm going to get mean, and say that Merrell has been here WAY longer than you, so he knows WHAT spam is. You're a "whitie" (Newb) and have been here a short amount of time.

You spammed. Just face it.

Here in the timeline we get to the Dawning of Golden-Fist (Dood) where with the help of the ancient Mayans and Incas, fused together to become SSJ form. Then when the french invaded he swiftly beat there ass down with a Ka-Mei-Ya-Mei-Ya-Ma, in other words. I replied to what you said to Merrel in my fake translation of your post, which shows how everything you said, didn't make any sense (Logic wise, I understood what you said, it just, sucked) or was not though out. And you completely ignored it and continued to go with this "You guys just hate me" routine. Which doesn't make us "hate you" any less.

Hmm.. Well, thanks for showing everyone here that you are not man enough to take any critisism. You know. It is rather pathetic that you go back through here, and delete all of your posts and try to make fun of us, and try to make it seem like we all are "spammers". If you want to get technical, you just spammed. (Read quote) "I don't spam!"

But you just did..

And that is spam, too. You just pointed out that you don't care about the rules of SeN, so why are you even here?

But to get back on track: Things like THAT are what need to be taken care of. Seriously. He came in here, posted completely off topic, got Merrell to point out he is a spammer, deletes all his posts, then spammed again.

It happens all the time.

Here's the happy not-so-chronological timeline:

Kellimus, RedNara, GoldenFist, and Merrell all spam and flame this topic on with equal blame for 70% of 12 pages, and all deserve warns. But, they fortunately find mercy, go home, and try to learn their lessons.

Futher I should point out that only moderators have the right to discipline other members or point out spam in a post becuase it is their job. If you have a complaint about another member's post, use the report function. Maybe you think it's useless, maybe that's because we don't agree with you. I can only guarantee a post will make it worse and guarantee you a share in the punishment.

Sadly, you can't even debate this matter without much spam and flame.
