Well, the funny(ironic) thing is... I am still working on terrain. The only reason is, I really want the terrain to portray the world I have though up. Something as if you're lost in a deep jungle, with small villages spread around. Lot's of wild beasts, and CRAZY enemies. So, I am doing quite a lot of extended terrain. But, not too much. I would say it is about 50% Isometric, 50% Extended. I regret to say that I have yet to physically start on the engine. I have a few thoughts in my mind how the actual enging shall run, but, that does no good. Becuase, I need them to be done on the map, not my brain!!

Anyways, glad you checked up on meh! I may post a couple more screenies soon. mellow.gif We'll have to wait and see. But, what I would like to do in the next 2-3 weeks is release the story. I am actually writing a (you could call it) short story. Maybe 10-20 pages in Microsoft Word. For the people interested in reading about the actual story can download it. But, if you want to wait until the map itself, that is fine. Well, I am off to do some homework, then work on the terrain a wee-bit more!

Eww thats cool Forsaken. biggrin.gif I hope that your terrain will be wicked looking! Which I know it will, and I would read the 20 page story if you wrote it. Good luck once again with everything.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Forsaken on 2005-09-01 at 22:39:32
Well, I'll be sure to send you a copy of the story! bleh.gif

I honestly have no idea how long it can get. Depends on how much I want to prolong the events. The only problem is, I know that the longer I make it, the longer the RPG! bleh.gif

Could be a good thing, could be a bad thing! The world, may never know!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by slayer766 on 2005-09-01 at 22:42:03
I think you should extend it to it's limits! biggrin.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by anxiety on 2005-09-02 at 02:01:03
Make it as long as you possibly can. keep mysterious. charm. and surprise. and youll do well. just dont make it a long dragged out story that shows "too" many twists or flaws soo early in map:P but im sure you already know this... id love to read your story if you wrote it. the more involved the story the more involved the player .. just the way i see it smile.gif thats if you go around it the right way... biggrin.gif goodluck cyu!

Keep going l)ark. This will be awesome.

Sorry to go off topic but I have to say Hi to Screwed! biggrin.gif

See Forsaken people will read your story.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Forsaken on 2005-09-03 at 01:26:07
Well, I think it would be better if I released the story, rather than a trailer. But, that's just my opinion!

ADDITION:
Li4k OMG! I am actually starting on the engine! For real! I am starting on the TBC and some other things. Who know's, I may have a demo out in like a month or so! Just thought I would let you know!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by slayer766 on 2005-09-03 at 09:43:52
Alright! Way to go! A demo coming out!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Forsaken on 2005-09-04 at 22:24:03
Yeah, the demo is going to have to actually be a rather good portion of the map though. I am thinking I'll have the demo go until the first boss. Give you a password, and then you can continue once you get the password so you don't have to do all of the stuff in the beginning. What will come with the password is:

• Minerals for 6 upgrades. 3 weapon, and 3 armor.
• All quests before 100% completed
• All "special" items from before, will be gathered or earned.

Prologue added on first post! Under Intro!

Very nice story you got there Forsaken! biggrin.gif I really enjoyed reading it. But what I shocked by was when Artemis was heartbroken by his mother's death, this stranger girl came, and he switched almost instantly from worrying so much about his mother to being interested in the girl. biggrin.gif That was very interesting indeed, good job on it man.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Forsaken on 2005-09-04 at 22:57:43
Well, that is the thing about this map. Artemis is quite an emotional character. He is tough on the outside, but very fragile on the inside. You'll notice when the demo comes out, you'll see the he is actually quite resistant in the beginning with Litania. Once she earns his trust, he is a very open character. But, do you think that could be a problem? wink.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by slayer766 on 2005-09-04 at 23:03:28
No I don't think that wouldn't be a problem, characters and the story is what makes a good rpg. biggrin.gif

Forsaken, if you want an enemy boss AI I have a few good suggestions:

Copy out a few system from a player: VHP, inventory, perhaps even grids and weapon switching. I don't know a shortcut to AI, I think you will just have to brute-force think of stiuations and what the AI should do.

@ Dr.

What do you mean? You kind of confused me on all of that! pinch.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Dr.Shotgun on 2005-09-05 at 00:59:02
You were talking about adding enemy or boss A.I a while back.

I'm saying for and A.I, you need to create VHP and inventory for the boss, as well loads f simple "if boss has c hp, drink poton" type triggers. I thought maybe you could throw in a few grids and spells and weapon switching as well.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Forsaken on 2005-09-05 at 01:12:42
Oh, that's what you're talking about. bleh.gif

Well, this is my plan:

My "AI" system isn't much of an A.I. system. I will be using 6-7 switches, and 5-6 death counters. What will happen is, I'll have about 3-4 locations. There will one unit in each spot. I will randomise the switches, so, that it creates "x" amount of units at locations "x,y,z~" Then, after the units are created, I'll do a quick check to see what and how many units are where. So, once that is checkd, it decides what the boss will do. So, for all you know, the boss could heal 5 times in a row. Or, do it's strongest attack 5-6 times.

But, the biggest thing you'll need to watch out for, is the bosses's specials. I will have one main Death Conuter, that adds one death every turn. After "x" amount of turns, it will do it's special. Which can be very good or very bad. You'll just have to wait and see the system. Because, I am horrible at explaining things.

Ig you understand, great, if not. Just wait for map to come out.

Terrain looks blocky and sprite-intensive in some spots. I see a Rantent blend! lol
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Forsaken on 2005-09-05 at 23:03:53
The sprites are for ambience. That is the the only thing I do not like about your terrain. It lacks ambience, or feeling. Sure, it may have taken you much longer to do, but,
I am not a big fan of your work... ermm.gif I think a balance between Isometric and Extended terrain looks much better. Besides, your terrain isn't the best blended work I have ever seen.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by anxiety on 2005-09-06 at 01:26:23
Have yet to see both terrains in action. but i believe its personal choice and opinion to the eye and viewer. However for myself i prefer terrain to actually "draft-in" with the storyline and map itself. With an added Consistency of Un-Consistency tongue.gif (unpredicable) , nice looking features here and there that just blend in with map.. its the little things that do it for me something "small" that u know has been given alot of thought in it.. and when i say thought i do NOT mean time tongue.gif )

I wasn't trying to be mean... and yet you have to bring up my terrain? I doubt you've seen Crescent Dyne RPG Terrain yet... haha, and I am fine with the fact you like having blocky, ambient-go-lucky terrain. We will see how the rest of your Love & Hate RPG turns out finished.

And, by the way, are those terrain pics all the terrain on the map!? I hope its not the only good looking terrain you have. We will see how much eye sex your terrain can handle! lol

lol

Who cares about who has the better terrain? I sure don't. Maybe you should both just walk in seperate directions... Besides, isn't map making supposed to b e for fun? Not competetion. It was wrong of Forsaken to talk blam about your terrain, but, it did seem that you were attacking him. I am not on anyone's side, so I think the both of you should just STFU, and get over eachother. Hell, for all we know, you both might have a couple of awsome RPG's. Or, they could both be another bad map...

Anyways, I'll shut up now. That was my pointless rant of the day...

Mini-Game's! Hoo-Rah!!

Shooting Range
Once you make it to the second town, you'll be able to go to the shooting range whenever you like. Once you are there, you are able to level up a certain amount of levels. Once you max out on the level's, you'll be rewarded money! Something to do, to take your mind of the game for a bit! I think it's fun! bleh.gif

Escape the Labrynth
In the third town, you'll come across a secret temple. In order to unlock this mini-game, you'll be able to play 3-5 mind boggling puzzles. You'll also be able to transport to the temple whenever you feel like it. For all you know, it could take up to an hour a puzzle! Depends on how good you are at them! tongue.gif

And last but not least...

Horse Racing
In the last town, you'll be able to part-take in the wild exhilerating sport of Horse Racing! =O
What will happen is you'll race an "X" amount of other horses(vultures) around a track. In order to beat them, you'll have to be a fast clicker! If you successfully win, your reward will be a horse! Once you win the horse, you'll be able to ride the horse around the map. Making it easier to get around. Having the horse will have it's pro's and con's...

Pros:
♦ Enemies cannot hurt you
• Faster Travel
• Get to places where you're unable to get to on foot.
• Impress you know who wink.gif
• You can get on and off the horse as much as you would like too.
Con's:
• The horse can only go so far before you need to give it water and some food. If it runs out of Stamina, you'll have to leave it behind. Once you lose the horse, there is no getting it back.
• You will not gain any levels because you cannot attack units.
• You are unable to use the horse in cities.
• The horse may randomly start bucking. If that happens, you lose the horse for good. This is going to be completely random. So, for all you know, it may never happen. Or, it could happen as soon as you get on.

Thanks too Fortune for the help with the great ideas! w00t.gif
