As the map slowly progresses and as more ideas come, the map starts to look better and better. A large portion of the map is completed yet some things still need to be done. So far, the map has:
- Wide variety of cars riding throughout city
- Civillians walking around on sidewalks
- Prostitutes walking around town looking for "customers"
- The city is patrolled by police cars
- As well, the city is patrolled by cops on foot
- All places of business constructed
- Fully operational airport
- Hospital, police stations
- Gangster areas
- No boats(sorry)
- Ability to switch guns
- Ability to enter cars
There's probably an aspect or two I forgot. Currently, the city has come to life and the true map making begins. As mentioned before, there will be missions for cash, ability to buy properties for income, ability to purchase weapons, ability to heal at the hospital, criminal rating which will be closely realted to the real thing: you shoot a civillian or steal a car infront of cops, rating goes up. As well, unfriendly gangsters will try to ice you in their areas. To keep the city alive, whenever a car is destroyed, a new one will respawn and continue its drive around town.
Me and criminal will talk about what we want to do next. I'm happy to announce that ever since I started "helping" on the map, progress has speeded up. So far, my "helping" resulted in 85% of the triggers and just about 100% modification to the terrain. With criminal's ideas, work as well as my ideas and my work, the map should be released soon.

Cream(U) aka Cream-E and Cream[K] already came out with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Perhaps you should come up with a new name for it or perhaps put 2 at the end of it. No need to rip someone elses map.

So true. I have seen multiple GTA - Vice city maps, not just the one Cream-E made. BTW, my personal beliefs on Cream-E's map..Well It's not like the real thing. It doesnt have the entire map layout and it doesnt go with the story very well. *Back to this topic* GL with your version of GTA dude, I hope you finish it soon.

When was the map out? Crim had this idea about a year ago and told me about it in the summer. Then I supposivly "worked" on it, then russ came along in decemberish. So now he's doing a lot.
I know of many VC maps, they all suck. I rember one from someone named Cream E, it had 3 missions and took about 20 minutes to finish, if you want to post the map I can point out how it's not like ours.

it is) has a GTA map, good for him. Matter of fact, looking at my maps folder, I see 5 GTA: VC maps. Our map is original, and as far as I know, no one else has our ideas. If they do, well, our names are on it for our ideas, 'cause if they aint, then who's ripping who?
I must say that this vice city map seems to be the only one that is worth thinking about. All the other vice city maps were
, so who cares about "originality". Let them repair the damage caused by crappy maps, and restore Gta:Vice City's name!!! Besides, hasn't everyone at least once wanted to make maps based on good/bad maps with the same name?
I personaly am ubsesed with terrain... If terrain is good then the map will look good but it also needs to play good... make sure you use extended terrain no jsut Buildings because the mini map looks alot better if you make your own buildings...
Make sure the Gameplay is Fun and you alctualy can get busted if you stop moving and a cop pulls your car over... If this is supposed to be real then make it real.

Obsessed with terrain? I'd have to agree, all I've seen you talk about terrain. There's no point in having pretty terrain if there's not any good gameplay. You should see old school RPG's, they didn't need fancy blending to make good terrain.
Map looks fine, will it 256x256? Let's hope you have a good car jacking system.

There are things that can and can't be put in. For instance a chainsaw can not be put in, nothing resembles a chainsaw and how cool it is when you chop people up. The only missions that require aim are the sniper missions at Ammunation. We can't really do that, in VC there are places you can crash into, and you have different speeds. In SC there's one speed, and not much stopping you. So if crim wants that in, then sure we'll add it (or russ will add it) but it might be unfair.
The map is 192x192 and there aren't any terrian buildings, there are a few buildings that have Supply Depo walls but most of the buildings are terran buildings. It looks really good though, and the chances of crim redoing the terrian is 0%. Espically if it's just because he thought someone else would make it look cooler if they did all terrian buildings.

The car jacking system is when the barracks in top right hand corner is lifted in air, you will enter any car that you are next to, if you're not near a car then when you walk up to one you'll enter it. It's pretty fair all cars are moving so if you want to get an infernus you better have good timing. Also when the barracks is on the ground you leave your veichle. If I rember correctly.
Actually I have thought of a car-crash system.
Let's say that when you enter a car an observer will move to the car. The observer got... 5 different locations with different sizes around it that follows it.
When the car moves the observer will follow. When the car gets to the second location that follows the obs you will get the text "20km/h", in the third location "50km/h" and so on. When the car gets outside all locations it will be "100km/h" and you will be able to crash and you will kill civs when you hit them. Maybe put some invisible air units at the walls that makes you crasch when you hit them?
There is one flaw with this. If you are a fast unit compared to the obs you can get the other side of the map and the obs is 1000 meters behind. Then you can stand still for a minute and the speed is 100km/h and all civs that walks in to you would die... But the car HAS to be faster then the obs. My solution is as follows; When the car gets outside the last location the obs will be replaced with a cloaked wraith or something, something that got the same speed as the car. When you stopped the wraith would get to you in a second, the speed would slow down and the wraith would be replaced with the obs again.
Give me credit if you use the system and got it from me...
That one flaw means we won't use it, plus it takes up Locations, we need all the ones we can get.
But... I explained later how to fix the flaw
You can also download my own test, works perfect. Maybe you can modify the air-units that follows the car for better performance, but bleh.

Besides, I don't know if it is fun with a system like this and I am not saying that this is the best solution. Do whatever floats your boat. The map seems nice without a complex crash-system... But I wan't to be able to run over pedestrians with much cops getting after me...

I'm liking all your ideas people. I'll say this once. Do NOT listen to the retard who thinks he's a big part of this. There IS A CHANCE the the terrain will be modified. I know for a fact I'll have to edit it a little to conserve space. As well, I like the car crashing idea. I've thought about myself before. I had the same problem with the stoppage. I like all other ideas and suggestions.

As for the speed of the car:
The current plans do not include the speed of the car or impact of crashes. Matter of fact, crashes of cars aren't planned all together. That aspect is yet to be organized. The key ingenious idea of this project seems to be the "liveliness" of the city. As well, as I'm told by Crim, the police AI. I'm already planning to improve the map after release. As in all maps, there are bugs and/or improvements that need to be made. But, me and crim wish to finish this map before planning the improvement of it.

But criminal gave up, he's not working on it anymore. Since russ banned me from the project I'm not helping either, so unless if he wants to do EVERYTHING, without people telling him how things will work it won't get finished.
But Russ could do it all by himself.
