Winter Mapmaking Contest

Yesterday January 31st, 2005 at 11:59PM was the deadline for submiting your map to DT_Battlekruser or myself(BeeR_KeG[eM]). If you still haven't submitted your map then I'm terribly sorry.

(I did make an exception of a map submited to me Today at 5:38AM so that guy can now get a relief).

A total of 22 were submited although I expected over 30 maps 22 are ok for the first edition of this contest.

I just sent DT_Battlekruser 14 maps that I previously had so once he downloads them and gives them to all the other judges the judging will begin.

I expect results to come out from 1 week to 2 weeks from the time of this post. I want all judges to judge the maps as carefully as possible and with the system suggested by DT_Battlekruser.

After all the results have been compiled give them to me first before you post them so I can speak with the people giving out the prizes.

As some of you know I was thinking of making a second edition of this contest next November and after thinking it a lot, I've decided that The Winter Mapmaking Contest will be an annual event done every year. Although prizes will vary from year to year we are here for the pride of making a good map and not out of making a living out of mapping.

Good Luck with your maps being judged.

You should know:
-we started judging maps as they came in
-we only have ~20 maps altogether, counting what you sent me
-you can view the results here http://homework.f2o.org/maplistearly.py (passworded)
-therefore, we should have then judged withing a week

Oh yeah, and HIGH SINCE YOU SIGNED UP TO BE JUDGE TRY JUDGING MAPS! (haven't received any judge reports from you)

I thought I'd have to work my butt off with these maps. Not too many maps received I guess...

But then again his prizes attracted those 100+ participants.

But how many did he actually get? Beer was "expecting" 100-150.

My little gmail accounts for invites are still there, but remember that Hotmail and i think Yahoo block gmail invites, so if you want them, have another form of account for them to be sent to.

Ah yes, I have around 12 gmail invites as well. If all 5 top winners want gmail, I think we have enough.

Gmail accounts are easy to get. If I wanted, I could get 100 of them for a few bucks.

Yea im trying to get the T-shirts done, but i've encountered two problems so far:

First of all, i really dunno what should be on it. Just StarEdit Network? Whatever it is, it has to be cheap since it's coming right out of my own wallet.

Secondly and most importantly, is it worth it? I mean with only like 20-30 contestants, this contest isn't really taht big. with like 50+ ppl would i feel very motivated into making them. What do yall think?

Way less than what was expected disgust.gif

Maybe if you extended the contest a bit so some more can join?

Some are probably still working on their map but the contest has ended so they cannot submit it.

extending deadline wouldn't help that much. It's just that we also need to motivate these people....
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2005-02-03 at 16:54:58
The deadline won't be extended. They had over 2 months to make their maps.

C'mon, i'm in it for a cool shirt! biggrin.gif
It could say: 1:st in official map making contest or sumthing like that...
Though, what are my chances to win? wink.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by LegacyWeapon on 2005-02-04 at 14:55:40
You can't try. If you have read the post, it says that it has just ended.

You can always try next year.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Turin on 2005-02-04 at 16:26:19
You could just use the Staredit Network logo (like at the top) and put pushing mapmaking to the limit on the back. Then whatever you don't give out, you can sell here on the site for those who really want one happy.gif
And, I do like the idea of having the winners get a little trophy thing on it, too. that would be a cool prize biggrin.gif

I believe that is true. I didnt know much about this contest anyhow. I didnt see a topic for it. Err..Maybe I just missed it :-). Next year, I would love to participate. And the deadline for the maps seemed long enough to me.
