2.3 million jobs. That's amazing. And mario, how does the jobs have to do anything with the war in Iraq?

I'm glad he's cutting back on unneeded government programs. America is so unefficient.

EDIT:
Less dependent on foreign energy. I hope he pulls that off.

Are you missing what he's saying? He's saying that he wants to become less dependent on foreign gas, and the 200 billion is relating to social security!

i say he should scrap the welfare program, and put the money into education. If youre living off welfare, you need to get off your butt, and get a job. Welfare merely supports lazyness.

Education promotes hard work and a good work ethic. The better educated America is, the better the economy will be (larger middle class) and fewer Americans will be stealing our precious tax dollars from the greater populous via the welfare system.

Unfortunately we are low on jobs, and we can't cut welfare until they have somewhere to go.

Though I do admit, it has sent the American work ethic to hell

Wasn't there a big increase on the money you get when a relative dies in a war?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kame on 2005-02-02 at 21:49:45
That would make sense.

I think bush just pissed off Egypt and Suadi Arabia.

A quick point about 'gas' a.k.a. 'petrol.'

I see no reason why your country needs more petrol - you have so much that your prices are the lowest in the Western world, and yet you complain about them when they go up by a few cents/gallon?

It's pathetic. I heard Americans moaning because the price had risen to $1.95/gallon.
Big deal - here in the UK it's the equivalent of $7.50/gallon.

Quit your whining over fuel prices - you're miles better off than the rest of the West.

[/rant]

The $200 million on welfare is perhaps a step in the right direction - your welfare state is woefully inadequate when compared to other countries.' Just don't let it go too far like it has over here, for example.

Here we have spongers claiming 'jobseeker's allowance' and other benefits such as 'disability allowance' when they're not working because they can't be bothered, and their 'disability' is a broken ankle that they got 20 years ago and doesn't affect them anymore!

He failed to mention the 4 million jobs lost over the past 4 years. That's still a deficit of 1.7 million jobs we need to fill up to come out not in the hole.

As do I. I actually agree with something Bush said!! That will create more jobs and boost our economy. If he goes along with the new energies available it will also increase America's science prowess. CaptainWill, he wasn't talking about energy for vehicles. We are talking about the energy grid that empowers all of America. You're off-topic my friend. wink.gif I'm sorry, but saying that to you felt really good. He specifically said "nuclear" (actually he said "nu-kuh-lear") and "alternative and renewable" sources of energy.

Dealing with his proposal for social security, his program would create "private accounts" that you add to yourself, so your own money goes towards your own retirement. Personally I like the idea, although it may actually leave some of the poorer people in dire straights depending on how this turns out.

I vehemently am against his pro-life views. I believe there should be a compromise between pro-life and pro-choice. I think any legitimate child, as long as it won't cause harm, should be left alive, and any illegitimate child, such as the case of rape or teenager *ahem* activity, should be given a choice.

There is probably nothing more that I am against than Bush's proposal to try to stop stem cell research. There is a great possibility and now even probability that stem cell research will yield the cures to countless diseases. Bush would take this chance from ill people just to assuage some beliefs.

I believe that gays should be given the chance to marry, because marriage's secular advantages should be available to all, not just to heterosexual folk. (However, let it be noted that I do not think this topic is very important).

Lastly, I think that Bush's plan to clean up cities and such by keeping kids out of gangs is essentially a waste of time and has already been done countless times before.

All in all, it was what I could expect. I won't even comment about the war on terror, because that would need its own forum. I actually agreed with some things, surprisingly quite a few when I didn't allow bias to weed its way in this time. Don't think for a second that I think it's good though. tongue.gif

Somebody on this topic started whinging about 'gas' prices, so I felt it was necessary to make my point.

Also, I'm slightly crippled in this argument anyway, as I have no means of watching Mr. Bush's speeches.

It's quite alright. I'm as liberal as anyone else here. I'm up for anything that will improve society.

Shadow, your post is a little off topic.

I'm leaving this open for a while longer, in case someone else has an opinion on State of the Union Address.

[center]I turned my TV off, right before it started, I can't stand to hear any political messages, anywhere, or in any form.
Alot of the things Bushie boy sayd are vailed lies. We may have added jobs, but were they quality jobs? Once you get logistical on anything anyone says, you can turn it against them, so I'll stop talking now.

Oh yea -- 200th post!
