you guys should put the x-tra triggers sysstem in the sf so mappers like me could use that instead of switching back n forth

Or mappers like you could learn to use the SF system smile.gif. I guarantee you'll like it more once you start using autocomplete. I'll admit you can't rename switches or use CreateUnitWithProperties...

Still, a lot of people have suggested this and I'll consider it.

Perhaps you should have it as a secondary option for idiots who don't know how to use a keyboard.

how come i dont like it then? i find it a lot slower because you cant visually see the trigger and i have to go back several times. also, you have to comment the trigger and when you dont, it doesnt show the trigger like in SCXE
Report, edit, etc...Posted by RexyRex on 2005-02-09 at 20:19:42
And in SCXE without comments triggers look uber-gay. So I guess it's not that bad is it?

Let's make a test then. The Fastest SF Trigger maker vs the Fastest XTra Trigger maker.

I belive the SF dude will win simply because he doesn't have to use the mouse or look at the screen once. I also don't have to write the whole location/unit name. If the name is a Marine I just have to write Mar and keep going on and the Marine will be automatically wrote into the trigger.

SF Trigger > SCXE Trigger

I still can't stand the syntax, With auto compleat I would rather have the full standard text.

I just visualize triggers better in the standard syntax

Wait, I don't use SF Triggers, but there is no way you can use CreateUnitWithProperties?! Isn't that a massive strike against SF Triggers?

I simply prefer X-tra because I always used it, and I've gotten pretty fast at it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2005-02-10 at 20:49:20
You don't need to really use createunitwithproperties.

HP%, Mana% and invincibility can be set separately and you rarely have to use triggers to create burrowed units.

i know why some peopel like it or not...

it depends if they are a visual or a person that can do a lot of mental stuff

also whoever has used xtra editor already knows most of the syntax, so its easier for them...thats why pros think Sf is easier than xtra...they memorized more, so they dotn HAVE to look back...

maby you can make a custom trigger system, where a person can custimize his triggering layout. liek using text or buttons, or both....

i think that people are just too lazy to learn something new. i mean the SF system is alot better then the regular way because its easyer to copy and paste sections of triggers. i was once like that, and i got really agrevated, and just decided to look into it more, and found out how to work it, and found out it was alot easyer and better to use! if you ask me, just keep it the same to piss them off, and eventually they'll get agravated too, look into it more, and learn how to do it. and they'll find out its easyer, and they might even thank you. (hehe... thank you) just one thing. add some new buttons to the side like, "Switches" and once you click on that it brings up a list of all the switches and you can rename them and stuff.. or w/e...

The truth is people are scared by the text GUI. Their like "OMG its not trigger its programming" "too hard crazy.gif

They give up before they try.

It's like asking a fifth grader "x+6=8, what does x equal?"

It is damn simple, but the go "OMG its an x, HELP its algebra, I give up."

its 2...

i learned that in 3rd grade too...lol.

yea forge is ezer, you can copy very fast.

but you cant move trigges up or down...yet.

a quick Q:
does forge allow you to put mutiple commands on 1 line, with a semicolon in-between each? Or you have to have a space, i know in c++ you can do that...but i dont know about SF. because if i want to copy fast id just push ctrl-v (64) times...

If someone gave me an easier to understand tutorial, id love sf triggering. Ive tried a couple of times, but failed miserably. [poor me]

Bolt, I generalize because the algebra applies to over 97% of all fifth grades. The SF triggers applies to over 99.7% of all mapers and over 73% of SENers

Copy this, it works:

CODE
Trigger(Do something,"blah");
<this is empty line with one space>

heh i used to complain about SF triggers (that was ver 2.1) but its so easy to use SF triggering

the only downfall is if you need acreatunitwithpropertys yiu have to go to x-tra and sometimes the screen will mess up or sprites wil be removed and such so yes SF is better for most of the part but good for others
Report, edit, etc...Posted by illusion(SS) on 2005-02-12 at 13:42:11
also add load and save triggers, then you can just do triggering in Xtra a load em in
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Lisk on 2005-02-12 at 13:46:36
the things I hate about sf triggers are multyline strings, switch renaming and unit properties.

Yeah i was in 4th grade 10 years ago. SC wasn't released then lol.

Anyways I know how to make triggers in starforge perfectly well. I just prefer to do it in Staredit. Mainly just because i like to see all the filler words and It looks more organized in Staredit. Theres alot of stuff Heimdal should of done for the trigger editor that he didn't do. Ither because he never got around to it or it was too difficult.

Things like Colored Code
Non commented triggers.
Check Boxes

And other stuff I forgot.

1. Ubercool, but superfluous.
2. could be useful
3. yeah i guess we could use them.

When your beyond what it can and can't do its all about preferance. And Quite frankly to beat Staredit is quite an acomplishment. Heimdal used to state that his goal was to make Starforge the only editor you would ever need to use. Then later he changed his goal to make Starforte the only editor you would WANT to use. (big differance)

There are alot of extra things that Starforge can do that can be done with other methods. (excludeing SCMDraft 2)
Off the top of my head it is more conveiant for
Sqaure and Extended terrain oviously
Colored Units
Player 12 Triggers
Custom String Editing
Unit alignment.
Map Revealer Placement.
Stacking . . . Minerals / anything (much easyer than SCM Toolkit)

And i'm sure there are other things that I can't think of right now.

Personally, SF are WAY WAY WAY (X10) Easier than they look. The best way to do it is open SCXE and make a few triggers that you need, then open that same map up in SF and then look at the triggers. And _¤-*Voila-*¤_ There you go!

And if you have ever talked to me about computers you know how stupid I am when it domes to anything! It took me about an hour to find where SC was located blushing.gif And I had to ask people on here (DT Battlekruser) lol I remember exaclty what he said to me when I asked him lol, "Are you kidding me" Not much has changed for my literacy towards computers! ermm.gif tongue.gif
