Hmm to replace post count and mapping skill etc, we should have field for respectability or something (can't think of a name).

Formula Ideas

a - days as a member of SEN
b - post count
c - posts per day
d - member rating from 1 to 10

(2a + b/10 + 6d) [(-1/20) (c-6)^2 + 2]

Graph of function involving c is parabola in about this shape:

[attachmentid=5090]

Examples

(Dual)Archon
a = 49
b = 40
c = 0.8
d = 5 (unrated)

RATING: (2*49 + 40/10 + 6*5) [(-1/20) (0.8-6)^2 + 2]
(98 + 4 + 30) (0.648)
86

Yoshi Da Sniper
a = 584
b = 2535
c = 4.3
d = 10

RATING: (2*584 + 2535/10 + 6*10) [(-1/20) (4.3-6)^2 + 2]
(1168 + 254 + 60) (1.8555)
2750

KckKryptonite
a = 575
b = 80
c = 0.1
d = 9

RATING: (2*575 + 80/10 + 6*9) [(-1/20) (0.1-6)^2 + 2]
(1150 + 8 + 54) (0.2595))
315

DT_Battlekruser
a = 250
b = 1842
c = 7.4
d = 7.6

RATING: (2*250 + 1842/10 + 6*7.6) [(-1/20) (7.4-6)^2 + 2]
(500 + 184 + 45.6) (1.902))
1388

It seems to me to be a fairly accurate way of having a "judgement" of members and is exceedingly hard to abuse. If you have been here sixty days of spamming like hell (and mysteriously getting away with it), you would seem to rate high. Say you have a post count of 1000. But the multiplier will stop you. Your posts/day would be 16.7 and spit out a rating multiplier of -3.2, making you SEN rating negative and proving your gay color.

The rating funtion peaks at c=6, a respectable ppd number.

oh and a large part of rating is based on SEN age, which can't be bought or spammed.

Comments, questions? Methink we should use this.

You want to place more emphasis on rating AND how many people have rated that person.

sounds like a good idea to me!!!! lmao you really went all out with the algebra and the parabola you drew there lol!! but it will show who participaes and stuff.. You could also use this to promote people to a moderator!

No, I still rating can be abused. Perhaps make it something like 12d instead of 6d.

Admins can hold their own opinions on the small base of moderators-to-be.

It's elementary, really.

y=a(x-h)^2 +k

Where vertex is h,k and stretch factor is a

Oh yeah and my TI-84 graphing calculator helped wink.gif

Actually, it isn't elementary . . . It seems more like Grade 10 Calculus to me, but that's just me wink.gif

Yes, it sounds like a really good idea. It would seem best to rely more upon human judgement from the moderators, but if they had to go through every member, they might as well just make up the final rating anyway tongue.gif

Thats why I said AND how many people have rated them. How many friends could one person have on the forum that would vote them all 10's?

Something like:

a - days as a member of SEN
b - post count
c - posts per day
d - member rating from 1 to 10
e - number of ratings

(2a + b/10 + 8(d * e)) [(-1/22) (c-6)^2 + 2]

I agree to all except for the last one. People woudl abuse those things and give everybody a 1.

We also need something which tells you how many posts you have made in each forum so you know how well "balanced" you are amongst the forums.

Well balanced isn't required here at SEN! tongue.gif

Which is why it is only 6d. It is a very small amount of the final rating.

Chu> The 6de would become insanely huge factor if someone had many ratings.

It's a good idea, and becuase I'm so horrible at math, it seems as if it has little to no flaws. Use it! tongue.gif

There are several Flaws in this system like these:

(1) It won't recognize wether I make 1000 smart posts in one day or 1000 spam posts in one day.

(2) If you are Chu it will be very hard to raise it becasue the longer you stay the harder it is to change the overall rating.

(3) Members who were inactive for long periods of time(Like Chu) still get points for those days)

I would say using a complex Logarithim or a Inclined Hyperbole would be much more efficient.

Yeah I was just thinking about that. 4de would be better.

So a person with 4 ratings of 10 would get 160 from that. But a person with 10 ratings of 6 would get 240.

But the magnitude increase is insanity. Maybe (2/5)de

1. You can make 1000 smart posts in a day? Try it. The thing here at SEN is if you ppd is too high, you are spamming. Show me an example to disprove this.

2. Huh? Chu was away for a while, but he has high rating as he deserves.

3. You deserve it for being away for a while. You are still respected, and for inactive members, you never even see their rating. Someone posting twice a month deserves a high rating.

But it truely does seem to work.

More PHP math functions, if you would like to use them smile.gif:
"+" Numeric addition
"." String concatenation
"-" Subtraction
"*" Multiplication
"/" Division
"%" Modulus
"++" Increment
"- -" Decrement

It can be programmed however. The concept is what I care about.

If you think it is unbalanced, try a member, calculate their rating, THEN complain.

Why does there have to be a numerical rating for everything? Just let reputation and personal experience speak for a person and their "trust factor".

1) Not 1000 becasue tahts an exageration but I can easily make 100 posts in one day and not one of them will be spam. (I made 70 during this last weekend)

2) Inactivity means Inactivity and rating shouldn't go higher or lower just because I didn't log on SEN for a day.

3) I still say it's better to use Number of active days instead of total days.

I see there is no use for Participation Level here. If IP or Yoshi would give us how Participation Level is determined and IP removes that infinite participation level then we could change that equation for the better.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2005-02-14 at 19:29:48
kk, have days at sen be active days + inactive days/4

Acutally, after a bowl of Honey-Nut Cheerios, here are my thoughts:

Days as member is fine, because inactivity will bring ppd way down (which is why ppd function is multiplier).

~~OFFICIAL REVISION~~

Changed stretch on c funtion to 1/20

Problem with that is people who are new don't know anyone and don't know who would be more trust worthy.

Problem with that is I can only guess what my rating, or your rating, or anyone elses rating would actually be after 5, 10, 30 people have rated.

For posterity.

a = 113
b = 109
c = 1.0
d = 3

RATING: (2*113 + 109/10 + 6*3) [(-1/20) (1-6)^2 + 2]
(226 + 10.9 + 18) (0.75)

Instead of a post count or mapping skill something to rate the reliability and "high placement" of members for new members to look up to.

Hmmm possible title: Respectability:
