Staredit Network -> Terrain -> T Bridge
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Caim on 2005-02-14 at 20:16:40
I was messing around and came up with this bridge concept. Its almost spriteless, got 4 sprites to cover up seriusly messed up tiles. Give me your opinions.

Looks very nice I cannot see any blocking at all. Except the water parts. I did a T bridge kind of thing in the my topic here with the dessert terrain but yours looks much better.

ADDITION:
Why must everyone say, before bosting their terrain something like "Was messing around" Can't you just say you wanted to try out some terrain?

Lol yes, the water. There are some messed up tiles there.

Thx for the comment biggrin.gif

That's good, but I know you can do better. You can fix those problems for water blockiness by copying them straight from a doodad. I suggest doing that and you won't need any sprites.

And Kaboom, I started the just messing around thing and kept doing it because I think it is funny when people like you get angry about it.

Instead of making a "T" bridge you can make the following suggestions to make it look better:

Make an "X" with some sections wider than the other.

Make small paths leading from the bridge to Terrain buildings making it seem like it's a city on top of the water.

Well, I never said I was mad. I am just wondering why everyone says that.

All those suggestions inspired me to make a map. I'm naming it "Bridge City" or something. I'll post some screenshots soon, I hope.

That would just look sooooo cool....

thanks

Building a T bridge is easy...
I could do one in 5 minutes and have no blockage... Its just a matter of having the right width and height...

They say it because that way if they get criticized they can just say "Hey I was messing around" and doge the criticism. Can't blame'em for it, or else there just bored and really messing around for no reason, something I've done before many times tongue.gif .

Yea, T briges are pretty easy to do and they don't looks blocky at all. I gess it was your first time playing around with bridges.

Seen it before, nothing new.

wats messed up with the waterline? you can see dirt or something next to it. try finding different sprites for covering up the blockiness because two random things dont look good.

how did you do this Caim?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Chill on 2005-02-15 at 22:43:44
No offence but that's a pretty poor job. You can make a T-bridge flawlessly except for that little part where you put the pillar sprite on the right.

EDIT:

What?

Try again, i'm shure you could make something not blocky at all in 5 more minutes. I'll go do it now, oh wait I have to go. I'll show you tonight.

keep in mind this isnt a contest, he did his best, i think its pretty cool, i havent seen you come out with a bridge yet... Any way, you could not only make T and X bridges but you make any shape bridge, but i like your idea, i havent seen it yet.

I did unblockitize it but I'm not wasting my attachment space for just two messed up tiles.

I was seriously just messing around. And from this I started making something else that I'm uncovering later based on this tongue.gif

A new concept-- if you would please everyone take a look below the leg part of the "T" and tell me at first glance if that looks like a bridge with water going under it. I thought it did and then realized that it was his blockiness that caused it. Maybe by screwing up though, he has found a new way to create a bridge with water "flowing" under it. Thoughts please.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Urmom(U) on 2005-02-16 at 17:32:28
nope, all i see is blockiness. i dont even know what part your talking about
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-02-16 at 18:18:24
Yeah, it doesn't look loike water os going under it. If you want that effect, make a bridge in Badlands terrain.

Fun.

hahahaha, Chill is copying. You know thats copyrighted right?

Just Kidding.

In the second one where you are highlighting the blocky part its impossible to cover up with tiles so I used sprites, I used two to make it look asymmetrical.

"Well, I was trying something that I have never done before with terrain and this came along." = "Well, I was messing around and I made this."

I guess it's pretty good. You sure there isn't a way to change the spots for sprites?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ChaosRyder on 2005-02-16 at 20:24:37
This is already way better, the place you selected cuz of the blockyness is fixable, should try again a couple of times and you will find the good ones, something it's just a little corner that does all the difference.
