i dunno why, i just dont really like the new main page, its just a news thing with map spot light on the top, so i have a sugestion for a new layout. (i just slapped it together on paint, my sis is on my comp witch has fireworks on it)

You're absolutely correct. it IS. Plain is better.
I'll tell you what. Most sites with invision portals got EVERYTHING there. But you begin to wonder... is it necessary to see it everytime you enter?
Its much better to have the important stuff, news, strech to 100% of your browser, instead of having useless things there that you barely read. If you DID read something there that isn't there before, its either a click away, or will be added later.

I think it's ok, new files and stuff wern't too usefull there, but it looks real plain now. Anyways, I think you aren't goin with what we think for this.

My only concern with it is the lack of th "recent submissions" part. That was the only way most maps on here became noticed andlooked at. Now they have to be so good that they're featured in the Map Spotlight to get any sort of recognition and popularity on the main page. Without having that there, people can't see what was recently submitted without going to a different page - and frankly it seemed much nicer to come to the main page and have a map catch your eye rather than going to separate page out of sheer boredom nd a desire to find something new.

No, that's not what I meant at all. I was just saying that some map makers wont get their maps shown off on the front page anymore and thus their maps wont get as much popularity or recognition. It has nothing to do with how good they are or anything of the sort. Its just that most map submitted to SEN every day aren't Map Spotlight material, so its unlikely that as many people will notice their map without it being on a "recent submission" part of the main page.
And you're assuming all map makers can make Map Spotlight material, when most make ordinary maps with nothing too new to offer. Maybe they are trying their best but their maps still aren't good enough to be one of the three chosen out of the hundreds of maps on here. I know I'm not a Mathrix or Bolt_head or Tuxedo-Templar and my maps will most likely not appear on the Map Spotlight. But that doesn't mean I don't try hard to make good maps in the first place.
I just think that more people will see one of my maps (and by "my" I assume I speak for more than just myself in a hypothetical sense) if it is on the "recent submissions" list on the main page, than if it wasn't shown on the main page at all. Most people wont click on an extra link to see recent submissions, because it was more convienant to just have them shown on a main page.
But whatever, it isn't my site so my opinion (or the others who have voiced their opinions on the topic) doesn't matter anyway. I think we just feel that if this is a community, we have some say on how the community's site should look. Ah well.

I dont know Yoshi, I think if we just keep it how it is (news + map spotlight only) but make mapspotlight on the left hand side vertically, we could fit more maps in there and it still wouldn't look bad.

i think it would be cool if the banner would rotate every day...
Example:
Monday: Deep Blues Dock
Tuesday: DK's Waterfall
Wednsday: The Staircase right now
Thursday: you get the pictue...
Friday: ect...
Also you can throw in some little htings like... mabe on chrismas holydays you put something christmasy up there... That would look really cool!!!

You can't change the picture every day because you would eventually run out of them. I believe it also tanks more bandwith since everytime you change something people have to download it(Temporary Internet Files) thus causing more bandwith to be used.
I like the current system that chanegs it about every 2 weeks.
