I'll come clean with everything about who I am. I am a Democrat, or liberal if you will, who proudly bears that name. I believe that there is something supernatural out there, or supernatural to us at least. I'm not about to make decisions regarding something that I cannot even begin to explain. One of the main reasons I suppose I believe in anything at all is that my Sunday school teacher asked my youth group, "What could it hurt even if we are wrong?" If anything, I suppose I'm agnostic in a sense, and I believe in a God (to keep it simple), though I freely admit that I have no evidence whatsoever to support this.

And as I've been warned by FireKame, please keep the flaming to a minimum.

*Sighs* I guess I just got slightly annoyed about debating the same thing (aka religion) over and over again. So it's time to introduce something refreshing at the very least.

Don't call me hypocritical yet.

Back to my first point about being a Democrat, I enjoy being labeled as a liberal. Even more pleased am I that my redneck community does not always enjoy my presence as such. I suppose I'm thinking about this as I'm going to give a persuasive speech on why liberals are good.

My definition of a liberal is one that is willing to accept change, and even push it across if necessary, to better society.

We [liberals] genuinely try to aid people in whatever way we can. We do not hold onto self-images of righteousness that I believe conservatives have. A common misconception is that we have no values. That could not be less true. Instead of holding onto old out-dated values, we replace them with newer and better ones. If the traditional way is the best, then I am for keeping it. That is another misconception that liberals want change. We only want to make society better.

For example, let's talk about the issue of stem cell research. I am for it because it will probably offer thousands of new possibilities from nervous system recovery to a cure for Alzheimer's to much much beyond. I consider the fertilized embryo an organism, but it is not really a human in my book. I consider humans to be individuals that can think for themselves and are self-substantiating. And no, do not twist those words around.

If you can present sound evidence I will most certainly change my mind in this instance. Remember -- open minds.

I'm still unaffliated...what was it that my friend said... "You're too liberal to be a republican and too cold-hearted to be a democract.' Right now I guess you'd say I'm leaning more towards conservativism, as neither side strikes me as over poweringly impressive. Anyways, here's whatsup with why I'm unaffliated:

"Pay what is due onto Caeser" Yes, a Bible quote. I am behind Bush fully until he goes too far. SO obviously, religon plays a roll in my political elignment
Pro-Choice
Pro-Gay rights
Femenists piss me off. I understand that we need rights, but I'm fine with where I am right now. That may change as the years go on and I enter more competitvely against men for jobs, etc, but as it stands they seem like a bunch of pms-ing censored.gif es with nothing better to do.
Pro-War in Iraq. Don't flame me.
Health Care needs to go down in price.
More emphasis needs to be placed on education and effeciency.
I'm also only 16; I don't need to be politically aligned yet.

Well, as a very politic-conscious 20 year old, I definitely feel the need to participate in our nation's voting process. I have to say that I am a Democrat. My views stem from this - the Democrats don't rely as much on feelings and hope as the Republicans. Hope is an idea that has no place in politics - if you're going to start a war, you'd better be damn sure that you can win it. If you're going to tell teenagers that abstinence is a better alternative than having sex at all, you had better be damn sure that your campaign will work (it hasn't). If you're going to ban stem cell research or abortions, you had better be damn sure that you're doing what is best for your country, and not fulfilling your own personal agenda. Did any of you watch the debates? Kerry's speech about abortion made him the candidate for me because he was willing to sacrifice his personal views to do what was just and fair for all Americans, and not just for his own theological denomination. That's why I'm a Democrat, and proud of it.

I have to say I am a republican. I am not a redneck and Im not from the south. HELL Im surrounded by librals becuase I live in seattle w00t.gif . I turned into a Republican becuase I frankely god tired of every one around me, every day saying omg I hate bush and bla bla bla. So thats one reason why I started to support our President. He may be doing a really bad job, but for god's sake instead of attacking him, why don't you help him out of the hole he (Bush) dug himself into. My second reason why I am a republican is becuase I have a HUGE amount of respect for our armed forces and I fell I understanfd them and they're thinking. My cousin is a Navy Seal and my friend who lives accross the street from me is an Army ranger assistant 60 gunner who has been to BOTH Irag (Bagdad) and Afhganhistan (not sure where becuase he wasn't allowed to tell me). My third reason for being a republican is I like their way of doing business and how they run things.

P.S. If your a republican, that doesn't mean you like bush or you have to like bush! and There are many different types of republicans so don't think that one republican has the same views as another smile.gif I also try and keep the peace between republicans and librals wink.gif

I don't have any political affiliation, but if I was to vote for a particular party, it would be the Conservative Party (UK).

As you all probly know, i am a liberal/democrat!! I am one mainly because most of my views are democratic.I do agree with republicans on somepoints but, again mostly democrats. I think the war in Iraq is dumb but, now that were in there we have to fix their country and follow through. I mainly think the war is dumb because my grand children will be paying off all the money we are spending right now on the war. Technically it isn't even a war pinch.gif ...

Stem cell research i agree wtih because it will help other people become healthy. But i can see the other persons point of view also.

I do not agree with gay rights. I dont know it's something about the whole thing that makes me grossed out. happy.gif

We need to spend more money on education. My High School was built 30 years ago. It is a peice of censored.gif now and we need a new one!! We can't afford good markers because we are so poor. The markers we have (for white boards) run out in one to two weeks. We do not have the poorest school in Massachusetts but its pretty damn close near it. The desk we sit in are like 40 years old. Everything is just old and moldy!

Oh and FireKame you spel "Ceasar" wrong it's "Caesar"... Just to let you know. wink.gif

Overtime i have heard that republic are better then democratic. I have also heard that democratic is better then republic. To me i dont really care but i am republican. what are you guys? and whats the difference between democrats and republicans?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2005-02-17 at 07:21:48
Hmm, maybe people who know nothing about politics are Republicans. w00t.gif

j/k - I think there are quite a few topics on this subject.

Republican: Lower taxes on middle/upper classes, focus on either isolationist or aggressive foreign policy, occasionally influenced by religion. Emphasis on the nation.

Democrat: Higher taxation on middle/upper classes, focus on quiet conciliatory foreign policy, increased social welfare spending. Emphasis on the individual.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Basan on 2005-02-17 at 15:21:21
Capt.Will summed it very well.
But allow me to add somethin'... to me Republicans are more conservative than Democrats. I think most folks 'round would agree with my assessment. happy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Drj12 on 2005-02-17 at 17:08:33
Yea, republicans like to keep taxes low and were once called the federalists

Also, the demicrats were called democratic republicans and both groups still believe in the same stuff as when the groups were created.

Ah, conservatism... That old notion of holding back progress because it scares you... Not my style, and I doubt that it's any of yours, as well.

A startlingly good point.

In my country, I'm conservative. In the USA, I'd be branded a serious liberal.

Yeah, like how we're advancing stem cell research and religious freedom.

Atheist Reporter: "Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?"

George W. Bush: "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

George W. Bush represents your party. If you're a Republican, he speaks for you. Sorry, that's the way it is. If you don't agree with him, form your own party. We have every right to assume that you share the opinions of the majority of the Republican party if you identify yourself as one.

Sure you can, all sorts of leaders have emerged under oppressive circumstances.
Martin Luther, Martin Luther King Jr, Ghandi, Dali Llama, Mao Ze Dong (sorry, it's spelt wrong), etc. etc.

Just get a cult following and do something about it.

Bush is a little freaky considering that he does things in the name of religion. Aka the "crusade" and how he favors Christians over other groups... oh well, that's not the point.

I mean, he's not just a "little" freaky, he's a really big freak. Just the zeal adds to his general idiocy and ignorance. What good has Bush done for America?

I mean, don't you love how he has vetoed, I don't know... zero spending bills. Yeah, isn't it great how he keeps on spending more, but never takes away anything? Oh yeah, he also talks of freaking tax breaks even as our deficit explodes? It will already take decades to fix all the wrongs he has created in America. Last I checked, 1 US dollar = 77 cents (Euros). They were about equal a few years ago. I wonder where he thinks his money is going to come from...

I mean, most nations hate us right now. Great Britain, France, Germany, you name it! Already they've stopped lending us so much money.

Shall we speak of the war on terror? I'd better not, those points would be pages long.

Yes, conservatism has screwed stem cell research. Yay for all the diseases that won't be cured, but could be, by stem cells. I hope you (conservatives) get in a car accident and have nerve damage in your spine. You then learn that stem cells could help you repair your spine, but *snap!*, you voted for the man that stopped the research. Oh well, I hope you really like wheelchairs.

It's late (relatively) for this time of year. That's all I'll post tonight. Feel free to ask or make points, I'm more than interested to hear what you have to say.

Re-reading time... merged topics sure need it, imao.
As I've understood you're asking to compare our stances on certain subjects. Here are my PoV's (same username), from another site. Just recalled that we could have a similar one, if the folks here are for the effort. wink.gif

I consider my stances to be mostly in a center-left position (according to my countries politics). My country has parties since the far left-wing (aka Comunists) to the far right-wing (I'd call'em fascists but it could be a litlle tad extreme). So, by this pattern, I stick myself in the middle and in the liberal left side (aka socialist or light-comunism as some fellas 'round forums labeled it). happy.gif

As said before our postions in many areas, such as regarding culture, religion, politics depend on where you were raised. 'Geography' has a lot of interference is this matter. So, my PoV's are somewhat 'biased' due to that social background.

Like that attempt to put conservative judges in Supreme Court. From that point onwards and since it's mandate has been renewed, doubt nothing he tries to pull. pinch.gif
Edit add: That's why I fear majorities to rule countries (as it's currently happening to the US, for instance). They tend to get a 'little' control maniac (read Patriot Act). And alas, I speak from personal experience (in my country). disgust.gif

I just hope that liberalism? and other small parties can become more prominent to stop the focus from being on Democrats and Republicans. It's almost like a celebrity drama anymore.
