Can mods increase the string limit? I know Purity of a Race had a custom editor, but I'm unsure if this can be done. I suspect not.

the stringlimit is a staredit limitation, not starcraft
and to expand on that, mods only effect starcraft, not staredit.
actually, no. There was some mods (such as the AI scripts that made the computer be just as good as any human players that made it to the finals at WCG tour) that also effect staredit.exe
I'm sure SCMdraft/Starforge will let you go past the limit.
Yes, but there is a second limit due to the chk format that can't broke with any kind of mods/editors.
It is hardcoded into Starcraft itself, and how it actually works, and all efforts for five years into things like this haven't brought up possible changes, although Stwong is doing some interesting parts with 80x86 atm.

th 1024 string limit is staredit only. the ~64K char limit is for everything
