Alright, I'm trying to learn what types of Engineering types they are and what they do.
Can someone give me a list of the many different types of Engineering that there are and a brief description of them?

I would prefer it to be in this format:

This Branch of Engineering - It deals with...

Aerospace Engineering - This deals with the design and construction of mechanical objects and the relation of it to the physical environment around them. (Aerodynamics, drag etc.)
Biomedical Engineering - The branch of engineering that deals with genetic modification, the ability to handle environmental stress or microscopic biological material.
Electrical Engineering - This is the branch of enginering that deals with the technology of electricity, mostly the design and application of circuitry and equipment for power generation and distribution, machine control, and communications.
Mechanical Engineering - This engineering deals with the operation and production of machines or tools with the applications of heat and mechanical movement
Structural Engineering - I am not entirely sure on this one, can't remember. I think it is the engineering that deals with the construction of buildings or other relevant things for economical purposes
Chemical Engineering - The branch of engineering that deals with the technology of mass chemical production and the manufacture of products through chemical processes.
Sometimes also the modifications or observations of atom behaviour.

Yes, there are more but however they usually break of these main enginnering categories.

Hope this helps happy.gif

beer did u decide what college your going to yet? I still think you should go to MIT.!! Thats a lot of engineering careers..!! blink.gif blink.gif

I still haven't decided but I have a couple of Universities in my mind.

Anyways I've also found a pretty good article at http://www.encarta.com but any more help is also appreciated.

I also think that I might go for either of these: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospatial Engineering or Civil Engineering. But thats just for now until I can find more information.

I've seen how advanced the coruses are. I saw that all of them require Calculus III and most of them will also ask for Indifferential Equations. It's not really hard at all since I can learn mathematics quite easily.
I learn Prime Discriminants in about 5 minutes by just looking at the chalkboard and that was Calculus I material and I'm taking Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry, I don't even have the required knowledge to learn that but I already do.

Is there such thing as software engineering cuz i've heard about the others but i dont know about software engineering.

Software Engineering can be described as one of the following depending on how you view it:

1) Computer Programer: You make the data which will be stored in the software. Computer Science is also a must to study for this.

2) Computer Engineer: You will make the devices that will read the software

3) Microengineer: You will make the storage devices where the software data will be sotred.(Cd's and stuff liek that)

How old are you? Because I'm turning 15 in 3 months and except for the fact that I've never seen Prime Discriminants and therefore naturally have no idea what it is, I'm in the same situation as you.

biggrin.gif I got 100 on the Pre-Calc midterms, I'm so happy.

I'm 16.
You could always look at my profile you know.

Well it depends how smart u r in math to get in to a good engineering thing.

Pfft, nobody looks in anybody else's profile.

I looked up Prime Discriminants on Google and Wiki, didn't get any solid results.

dry.gif I guess I'm more of a big fish in a small pond, I was the ONLY one who got 100 on the Pre-Calc midterms.

ADD: BTW BeeR, are you a Simpsons fan?

You must be really smart or u cramped it in ur head before the last minute.

well if really want to work in any kind enginneer u have to learn a lot and try to study of being whatever u want to be.

I'm from China, that accounts for most of my mathematical talents.

Aside from that, I am one of the smarter of the smart people. [sarcasm]Oh yeah, and I'm strong, good looking, honest, and of course am puming with humility too.[/sarcasm]

Seriously though, the education system in America is slumping so much...

LB leader did you steal your sig from someone? I mean... the white box and the Chinese character, "Sky"... or is it one of your previous aliases?

Is this topic done yet?

Speaking of which, here's a poster I saw in, ironically, a science lab in Cornell.

You guys all suck. Friggen Calculus I crap. I had a tough time in Algebra. And now I'm failing Geometry. Only reason I passed Algebra is cause this one Asian kid was my partner for a partner test and I finished the class with a D- average. Sure makes me feel like a stupid person. I can't even think about taking Pre Calculus. Blah Blah Blah Blah.

Math isnt your strong point.
Well I know that there is also biological engineering, a feild of which I'm planning for.
