well russia is the biggest country in the world. The argument about wether or nto it is part of asia can tip either way. Geologicle it is indeed part of asia, in fact most of it is in asia. CUlturely on the other hand russia vries grately from most other nations in asia. Judgeing by culture then russia is not part of asia. So which is more important? culture or geographic location?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2005-02-23 at 15:40:34
Western (Modernised) Russia is a part of Europe, the rest of it is probably classed as a part of Asia.

However, as Moscow is in the West, I think that Russia is officially a part of Europe.

Just by thinking like the hockey fan I am, most other good hockey countrys are in europe, and russia is a really good hockey country, so i would say their in europe, but they ARE mostly in asia geographicly...some question this is, this is a good debate question come to think of it.

The only REAL "good hockey country" is good old Canada.

ADDITION:
To add, I believe that Russia is a European country. Why?

Here's why.

Do they speak a similar tongue to Asian countries? No. Their language is very similar to other European tongues.

Do the inhabitants look like inhabitants of Asian countries? No. They look like Europeans.

Is their culture similar in any way to Asian culture? No. They are, by and large, Christian and participate in Christian holidays and activities.

That is why I believe Russia is officially a part of Europe and should be considered so.

EDIT: You were right. It's been fixed.

I wouldn't be saying that. Have you seen the types and kinds of training they are required to do? It's a lot better then ours I should say that.

Yea but i assume their economy or all that other stuff isn't as strong as the USA. The Soviet union collapsed like 15 years ago, which sort of ended the Cold War that went on between us and them.

It is in both Europe and Asia the continents. Europe and Asia are seperated by the Ural Mountains which runs through Russia right?

when you say that europe is a european country i would have to disagree... for obviouse reasons, ie. europe isn't a country...

but if you really meant Russia, then i could see your point.

USSR collapsed back in 1989 or somewhere around that area, when the Wall fell down.

EDIT: Put the wrong word by accident

Hahahaha... That's pretty awesome if you can say that about the Russians.

But anyways, who's to say that a single country can't be in two continents at once?

That sucks that the Soviets lost the game somewhere around the late 80's when we were having the Omylems they lose to the censored.gif ing Americans, they call that the Micle goal or something like that, the Soviets win the Hockey games about 4 times in a row, I can't remember that much I'm starting to forget the whole thing, if you remember please correct me on the parts that I'm wrong at.

On like the 22 it was the 25th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice. Why does that suck? Like 6 of the players on that team were from around where I live, so I feel special. Go UMD Bulldogs!

And what makes it so special is that it was a team of amateurs that was coached and then won the Gold medal.

Of course it is or we have 8 continents instead of 7

my thought is that the most part of Russia is Asia and the western part of it is europe because there were major events accured there in the 1940's i think.

look up the word "barbarian"

This whole topic makes almost no sense.

If Russia was part of Asia they would have the same boundaries.

It's like saying, is America part of Canada? Because they are after all both connected.
