Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Dark Swarm/Disruption Web
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tdnfthe1 on 2005-02-23 at 23:36:24
Ok, As we All Know Dark Swarm and Disruption Web have Unseen Sc triggs.
These Triggs give them to P12, then Under P12 they have a Wait, and Death Animation trigg, as well as the effects of Not attack, and Missing Missle Attack.

Well this is very easily Disabled with the Spell still casted, and it will never go away unless done by your trigger.

All You need to do is Give the Disrupt Web/Dark Swarm to a Player In game that is not P12. The Effects and Death of the Spell will be disabled, and the appearance of the Spell will remains, this can be quite useful in rpgs, and Puzzle type Maps.
And Yes, this gives the same effect as Placing a Dark Swarm in Your Editor.

I know some of the More Advanced/ Older Map Makers Know this, but Polls show the average Map Makers don't Know of this, so i figured i might as well Inform some of em right? biggrin.gif
(The Polls I took were self done, if you don't like it or care Bite me and close the damn topic. And This is a small Tip(Since Concept has been ruled not understood by LegacyWeapon) for starting Map makers.
P.S. If there is a Tutorial on this.... Owell....

A tutorial? good lord man its one bit of information? All you can expect to get out of it is "oh, i didn't know that" and then they move on.

also what polls show that most mapmakers don't know this?

Anyways thanks for the info, heres a question. If you give it back to player 12 will the default effects take place once again?

Tired and Cranky

I found out you could give swarm and dweb to another player a looong time ago, I even made a test map. Even so, it doesn't help the current problem of Dweb/swarm protection -.- I wouldn't even call this a "concept"

How would this be useful in RPGs or even puzzle maps?
Tell me how.

jeez stop bein censored.gif y to him/her, just trying to be helpful. you could use it in a puzzle or adventure map when you uh want to be able to cast a permanent dark swarm, or make a dark swarm that lasts longer than normal, same for disruption web

I could see a use for this in RPGs or Diplomacy games... You could purchase Dark Swarm or Disruption Web upgrades to have it last longer.

Ah... I did not read it carefully enough... However, through some testing I found that the Disruption Web did not last forever when given to a player... Here's the trigger I used (from Starforge)

Trigger
Players:
¤ Player 1
Conditions:
¤ Always();
Actions:
¤ GiveUnits(All, Disruption Web, P12, Anywhere, P1);
¤ PreserveTrigger();

What'd I do wrong?

EDIT: I thought I'd mention, it appeared to give the Disruption Web to me, because I got LOS from it.

First of all I took a Poll of 67 People from Custom Maps Channels in Us East and Us west, Most of the new Map Makers don't about the "small concepts". I posted this FOR THEM.

DID YOU NOTICE WHAT I SAID IN MY FIRST POST? I SAID THIS ISN'T FOR OLDER/MORE EXPERIENCED MAP MAKERS BECAUSE IT'S NOT REALLY A CONCEPT AS MUCH AS A... TRIGGER.

I Post alot of stuff for the new map makers. Concepts don't need to be cutting edge, or anything New and Huge. If you don't consider it a Concept Legacy then go ahead and just close it, i don't care.

You did do anything wrong. All disruption webs (as far as I know of) can be on a map for a certain amount of time. After this time is up, the disruption web is automatically removed, so to speak.

They won't ever Disappear if Given to a Neutral Player(In your editor i Think).
Dark Swarm will work fine as long it's not p12 controlled, but Disrupt Web can get Deleted from any Player.

Didn't you say that if its givin to a player that isnt player 12 it will last forever in your first post? What your sayin is kinda confusin me. Will it disappear if givin to players 1-8 after a certain amount of time or no?

Disrupt is weird, it has to be Given to Neutral Players as Far as I know, everytime i Place it under a Player or Comp it Goes away. But when I give it to Neutral Players in Triggers, it works just fine.

If you really wanna see these in action, Look for Padoraths return rpg, and play as the Summoner or Mage. The Summoner uses both of the Trigg systems we've talked about, and the Mage Uses only the Dark Swarm Trigg.

I wouldnt even really call this a "concept" its more of a trick...
Webster definition of concept
1 : something conceived in the mind : THOUGHT, NOTION
2 : an abstract or generic idea generalized from particular instances

Ok Fine, It's a trick. But this is still the only relative forum for this information.
If there's a better spot for it feel free to move it.

How the hell you think we made Gunner Systems and differnet techniques out of it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by LegacyWeapon on 2005-02-26 at 03:05:55
1) Tux used a remove swarm + create unit.
2) What does that have to do with what we are talking about?
