Quite a while ago, I was working on an RPG (Very similar to Tux's Chemists' idea, although I thought of the idea before he posted). It has the basic storyline of an RPG; searching for something: In this case, the Shanishi Stone. I devoted about an hour of my time to creating the characters, and all of their information. Their background pretty mch sums up the storyline, but I'll add on to the Prologue and Sequel later, as well as Concepts I plan on adding.

So, enough of my rambling cool1.gif . Here are the 3 Characters:

Name: Akara
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Specialty: Light Alchemy, Healing and Reviving
Occupation: Nurse at Naribwe Hospital
Goal(s): Finding a powerful antidote to heal all ailments.
Background: From the village of Naribwe, Leif loved to experiment with potions and see what the outcome is. Leif was
born into a wealthy family, and she didn't know what it was like without everything you want right at your side. As
A child, Leif loved to help people. She was asked to join the Naribwe Hospital where she could put her skills to good
use. There, though, she found that she was limited, and was always angry at herself when she couldn't help a patient.
Leif was determined to seek out something — anything — that could help heal any virus or disease known to man.



Name: Soran
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Specialty: Dark Alchemy, Elemental Magics
Occupation: None, Daila
Goal(s): Returning the stone to his homeland, Daila, to secure the safety of the people.
Background: Coming from a blurry background, Soran has always been an orphan. All his life, he has been living on the
streets, learning and doing everything he could to survive. As a young boy, Soran was taught to be a thief by Oden,
stealing small things like bread or money. Now, as an older teen, Soran is skilled at the art of Dark Alchemy and thieving. He
Can take anything he wants, unseen. He overheard Oden talking to himself about something called the 'Shanishi Stone,' and
all of the wonderful powers that it had. He finally found a reason for learning everything that he has, and Soran decided to
put all of his goals aside to help Oden find the mysterious stone.


Name: Oden
Gender: Male
Age: 56
Specialty: Arcane Alchemy, Summoning and Cursing
Occupation: Historian, Researcher
Goal(s): Recovering the Shanishi Stone for studying.
Background: Oden was the average worker in the town of Daila; until he heard of the Shanishi Stone. He
heard of how incredibly powerful the Stone could be, and in the wrong hands, it could destroy any form of life. Oden
devoted the rest of his life to studying the mysterious stone: it's abilities, it's whereabouts, etc. When he found
Soran, he was releived to have a young apprentice he could give his knowledge to. He taught Soran how to steal things -
for survival purposes only - and how to control his Alchemic powers. Finally, the day came when Soran asked to leave
his hometown of Daila and venture into the unknown world. Oden decided to follow, as Soran was still a minor. He didn't
yet know what Soran was looking for, but he would soon find out.

And some Basic Information:
Players: Debating (1 - 3)
Tileset: Debating (Badlands, Ashworld, Desert, or Jungle)
Size: 256x256

Comments? Suggestions? Again, I'll post more of a storyline / concept / engine portion some other time. pinch.gif

Well first of all Leif is a male's name, not a female's. Second of all 56 seems a bit old for an adventurer type man. Also, I would prefer a competitive game where one could be Soran (if he is evil which seems true) and one as the good character. This would be more fun imho.

confused.gif I read a book where Leif was a girl.

Oden is old, but he's the knowledge man. Sometimes in the story (when adding on to your characters personality) if a question is asked about Alchemy, Oden's vast knowledge would be able to help. happy.gif

I'm working on making Soran's 'father' Oden, so everything Soran knows was taught by Oden. He's not evil, but I plan on making a sequel (won't be revealed yet) so, you'll find out.

Edit: Thanks for the constructive criticism though, FaZ-. It helps a lot, because I really don't want any stupid flaws in my first RPG.
Edit 2: Do you know of a decent name for a girl? Kind of an 'out there' name (Unique like Soran and Oden) but not uberly random like arphilecopena? cool1.gif

Leif isn't totally a girl's name, It can also be a male's name...56 Is a perfect age if it is a old adventurer, That loved to explore...Soran sound's more like a female name.

Leif is now Akara, unless I can find something better that suits her personality.

Don't do a "SUPER UBER DARK EVIL VILLAIN LORD" character. Real humans aren't black and white like that. I'm really tired of all these RPGs with the "good heroes" and the "bad leader". Have you ever met anyone who's really entirely evil?

My ideas are to make the whole first game searching for the Stone. Once they finally find it (There would be a lot more mazes than bosses), something happens; which will begin the sequel.
So don't worry, there isn't a "SUPER UBER DARK EVIL VILLAIN LORD." wink.gif

Hmm, I was thinking about splitting the first one into two parts, the first being "Shanishi Stone: The Search" (And the second isn't named yet). Also, I think I should make the map A LOT more puzzles than Battles, because I'm really not that great with skills (Making certain units do certain amounts of damage, without ending up raising the enemy's life/killing it in one hit).

As for units, Should I make them all Civilians (Akara being a Medic for reasonable purposes [female, firstly]) or, should Akara be a Medic, Soran be a Dark Templar, and Oden be a High Templar (?).

"What?" was like "Waaat! I didn't do anything!" type what, not "What do you want?!?!" type of what. It was like the question type, not the angry type. Well, I'm just saying plz finish this map cuz I'm REALLY mad that nobody finishes their map... Well, good luck.

P.S. Moogle, I'm the guy from a Long time ago, remember with the battle system that's TBC that you helped me fix? I just changed my SN... u like?

uh, didnt know u changed your log in. Still should give feedback about map bad/good. Even so it is true that 90% of RPG maps talked about on forums never finished.

Think desert would be really cool since there isn't many players who use it, and "The Shanishi Stone" sounds like a jewel or something.
I would like some nice dialouges and alot of traveling, that would be really cool

Will this have Cutscenes that are pretty long, cuz I love that kind of RPG (Golden Sun, I got SOOOO addicted to that RPG...)

Golden Sun is one of my favorite RPG's as well, so it's going to be pretty close to that.

Battle System will be turn-based. Like in Golden Sun, in certain areas that you get into battles, they have different backgrounds (If you're in a cave, the background looks like a cave. If you're in a meadow, you are surrounded by vast grasslands). For each area that you can battle, there will be a different 'arena' to battle in.

Instead of running in and just shooting enemies, I will have a random enemy spawner. Probably 4 Randomized Switched (16 total outcomes) and 3/16 will spawn 1 enemy in the arena, 2/16 will spawn 2 enemies, 1/16 will spawn 3, and the other 10/16 will be nothing (You don't want to run into a battle every step you take, do you?).

Also, as said before, this will be more of a riddle/puzzle RPG than a battling RPG.

*Sigh* I started in Jungle already, since I'm most familiar with it. The next one (If I make it) will definately be in a different tileset, though.

The Shanishi Stone is like a jewel, I guess. I still don't know what it's going to be, but it'll sure be powerful! wink.gif Also, I'm not very good at diologue. Help would be appreciated and I'd definately give credit if you helped enough. And the map is 256x256, so there will be a lot of traveling. I planned on making a portal system, where you use the item, it brings you to an area where you can select ANY part of the map to go to that you want (Only if you've been there, of course). happy.gif

An RPG isn't an RPG without good cutscenes. People might say I won't finish this RPG, but the only reason I haven't done much is because I'm trigger testing. I need to master all of the triggers before I want to implement them into my map.

How about starting with a town. 3 Triggers Randomized for 9 total Texts. The town is Daila, the starting town of your character. Do you think you can help come up with 9 things that make the town seem like a nice, comforting area? i.e. "Hello! Welcome to Daila" or something of the sort. wink.gif

Edit: This might not be the best place to ask for Ideas, but I guess it'll work since this will be my Production Thread?
