I was just working on my map when I thought about this. If you covered an entire terrain area with pylon aura sprites and made the whole terrain underwater, that could make an awsome submarine map. and it would be cool if oyu have a underwater base, like sea lab or something. This is possible all possible and it would make a great map, but the concept I had was this.
What if you could move sprites? That would bring revolution to map making. Such as having a vespene geyser gas sprite following your unit in the water.. so it looks like bubbles coming up from your water suit. I think that would look awsome!.
Here's some of the pics of the map.
It looks very awsome but oviously you can't go overboard with it. (PS someone had a really bad ass cave with that idea before)
Yea, it was qPirateKing. (there's also a similar thread in the terrain section)
Yea, the only problem with it is how quickly the spirite limit gets hit?
Ah well, the screenshots look really cool at least
.
I covered like half a 64 by 64 map with like 30 pylon sprites so it's possible, and apparently I screen shot can't capture sprites, cause I had air bubbles coming out of things.
wow, and underwater map, badass.
Move sprites? Sprites are inanimate figures... Granted it would be cool, but not possible.
wait till sc 2 comes out...
I doubt SC2 will allow you to place sprites, let alone move them.
(Never used WC3 Editor)
*Wait 'til SC 2 mapfile format comes out...
I dont think moving spirits wouldn't really add to much in this case, but w/e it would still be cool
Edit: spelling, one word was miss spelled and completely changed my point lol.
At first I wasn't sure but those screenshots make It look so cool.
This is such a wicked Idea =S I think I'ma use it if you don't mind =S Credit given
Well, anyway since we all know it can't be done, we can create the effect by spawning and killing halli units. Or rhydons
you dont have to cover up the whole map. make the map size 94X94 or w/e is bigger then 64X64, and the make a 64X64 area that is underwater, and the rest could be like a town, where you can buy sub upgrades and shit. that would be awsome.
Someone needs to make an entirely underwater themed map. I have seen some that have SOME parts underwater, mostly movie maps, though... That'd be kick-ass to see a map with 'sub-marines', lol.
you could make a map about battling merman/ mermaids and have it entriely underwater lol and have atlantis, lol
From what I understand he can't wait till SC2 because SC2 is going to be 3D. Therefore, NO MORE SPRITES.
It will have abilities and stuff still though. They just aren't 2D and aren't sprites anymore. They'll be labeled "Models" or something...
TriggaMasta, it would be cool if you could move sprites, I've been keeping my eye out for glitches in sf or something that may let you do it.. but so far i havent found anything.... if you could move sprites, wouldnt it be easier to move the pylon psi range around the unit so u dont use as many sprites? anyway! DONT GIVE UP HOPE!
I hope blizzard changes its mind bout it being 3d because -war3 might be a 3d game but sc is definately NOT a 3d game! It would be soooooo laggy!!!! no more defenses...
well, theyll have water units such as boats definately!
Ok, you shouldnt even hold out hope thats there is anyway to move sprites. Because really there isnt. Unless you make a mod. Its one of those things that isnt going to change because acual sprites are not units and there is no way to move things in game which are not acually units. Even if (I stress if highly) it was possible at one point it would most likely have crashed and or really broken the game and would have been fixed. Blizzard did leave alot of holes/ bugs in the game, I.E. the unused units which they didnt bother to finish but left in the game. Most game which have units they didnt use atleast finish them so they are there. Blizzard thought it be smart to leave them unfinished and placeable.
true, it is impossible to move sprites
, not because blizzard intentionally did it, but because sprites are pre-loaded so as to reduce lag because sc was made for Slowwwwwwwwwwww computers and so are completely un-changeable in game. btw, doors and traps are units. also one last thing, if u make a mod u can just make a unit with its sprite being a pylon aura, which would allow you to move it and stuff.
dudez this could also add a "night" effect to the game as well, like in AOM.
Oh my god no! StarCraft II??? WTF IS THIS!!!! IT'S the only thing i got on all my friends saying that WCIII (sucky game) is much better than SC... (That it required two remakes before it was any good) Well, i'll "bojkotta" Blizzard if they make it 3D... The only thing i'd like about it would be if they made the mapeditor like in WCIII where u can edit everything (but omg dont change the trigger system pu-lease!)...
What? WHY THE HELL WOULD STARCRAFT 2 TO HAVE TO BE 3D? OH, IT'LL LOOK MORE REALISTIC? FROM AN OVERHEAD VIEW? WHY THE HELL DO YOU NEED THAT DEPTH AND THE ABILITY TO TURN AN OBJECT IF IT'S ALWAYS FROM ONE VIEWPOINT? WHAT'S THE GODDAMN POINT? The point is to make idiots who think the latest engine stressing graphic innovations make for good games. Well, THEY DON'T. Starcraft looks MUCH, MUCH better then Warcraft 3, yet it's a hell of alot less laggy. If you're see ONE side of an object constantly, why does it need to have more sides? It's like saying that they should use full buildings in movies when the camera is going to only show one face. All it does is add money to the budget and blog down production. /rant
