Well, that topic on death in dreams made me think about something I discovered a few days ago.
Lucid Dreams - A dream in which you can control varying events in the dream.
I found that many people have this amazing ability and that there is a technique you can use to have lucid dreams. It was developed by the Lucid Institute, in Stanford University. What you do is during the day, question whether or not you are dreaming. If you do it often enough you'll find yorself asking the question in your dreams to.
I used it once and it turned up results. (I made myself flip the page of a calender in a dream, but after getting all excited that I was in control I woke up)
Well I want to know if there is anyone out there who has this ability. I'd also like to know if there is any difference between people who have lucid dreams, and people who have normal dreams.
the 'power' to manipulate dreams?
I do it all the time...I've set clocks in my dreams before, because the next day was daylight savings...I've picked up guns and killed people, all sorts of stuff like that. I am failing to see what the great deal of this is?
Let me clarify. It's not just what 'you' do in the dream, its if you can manipulate the dream. In real life, it would be like being god, not just doing things. If you can do anything YOU want to, at any time in your dreams, you are a rarity. Not everyone can do these things, for most people dreams are like movies, they have no control over the dream itself. Is it clearer now?
Not really.
I highly see any reasoning in deciding that you wanted to change the calendar as an act like god's.
Besides, what if it was your psyche making you believe you were doing it when you weren't?
In your dreams, you can do things, but you cant control what you are GOING to do in your dreams.
Jet, thats the thing, if you can't controll them then you aren't a Lucid Dreamer. If you can control things you are a Lucid Dreamer. Here's a pretty good explanation of lucid dreams.
Lucid DreamsVery interesting I must say. I have had dreams where I controlled the events. But as I was deciding something, I regained consciousness to the fact that I knew I was dreaming. My heart rate goes up and a couple seconds later I am awake... Very odd. I love lucid dreams, I just can't make them last once I figure out I'm in control.
I can't.
Until I was age 13, I would instantly know that I was dreaming if the subject came up, such as if I'm thinking of a dream, or wondering what my dream will be when I go to sleep.
At which point, people become my slaves because they're figments of my imagination, meaning that they are, essentialy, me, and thus have the same desires as me. Me having whatever I want.
What sucks though, is I actualy have to talk to them.
So, basicaly, I have no real control over my dreams. Only persuasion of the Sims.

I thought you said you were a few months younger than me.

By controlling your dreams, that is part of your dreams itself, dreams can be what you experienced during the day, so by thinking about lucid dreams,
you dream that you had one. Thus you aren't really controlling your dream and you are just having a "movie" dream of a "lucid" dream.
i control my dreams sometimes but sometimes i dont.. its weird eh?
I've heard and read quite a bit about it. But I seem to be too passive to enter a state of Lucidity. A lot of times I know I'm dreaming, but my sleeping mind has never actually done anything about it. Just like real life, I end up going with whatever happens.
If you ever find yourself in control during a dream, try flipping a light switch. Apparently, one of the few things you can't do in a dream is change the light level.
I have literally no control in my dreams.
I have no common sense in any of my dreams.

I don't remember my dreams.
Well, no, I don't have lucid dreams. Sometime though, if I wake up "naturally" (nobody else waking me up), I'd think about the dream I just had. Usually, I would fall back asleep, but the dream would be altered by what I was thinking. As in "Damn, I wished I had a gun", and after falling back asleep, I might find a gun lying around. Of course, if I was aware that I was dreaming again, I'd wake up.
I do remember when I was younger a few times when I was aware I was dreaming, and didn't break out of the dream. But I wasn't in control though, it was still..."movie" like.
I have no control of my dreams.
once in awhile I am able to control my dreams, and trust me its so FUN. One time I just started flying around the air (think super man), it was very fun. And then of course I have other, more naughty ones that I am able to control. Damn I wish it was more consistant for me becuase, like I siad, its only once in awhile that I am able to fullly control my dreams.
A friend of mine was able to controll his dreams when he was a kid, but now he can't. I wonder if it changes as we get older, or something. I just remember him telling a story of how he wanted to see this girls breasts, but he could never get her shirt off, because he hadn't seen breasts in real life.

I did?
Well, in that case, either I was talking to someone else, you were confusing me with someone else, you changed your profile, you lied about your age, or I wasn't paying attention.
Why, how old are you?
It was crazy. It was like amazing. I was uhhn....it was the best I had powers and everything.
Lucidity is where you are aware of your dreaming, not necesarily doing anything about it.
I've had some lucid dreams, but when I try to do something, I ususally cant do it. Its a weird effect. Kinda like running, but you cant run. Have you ever had that feeling in a dream?
Hm.
Not really.
Though, often in dreams, my physical capabilities are either many times more or less then they should be... more often less.
Like once when I was running from someone, I was only running at, maybe, a quick walking pace, and I couldn't run any faster no matter how hard I tried, unless I happened to get my legs moving at just the right frequency, but then I'd get off-beat and start running really slow again. That happens a lot.
In another dream, I pretty much never got tired, and I was running at near-normal speed, and I was doing front flips on fences, and I remember something about climbing a tree and using it as a hiding place.
Never before, and I really wish I could of. Always odd when you a remember a dream when you turned a direction for no apparent reason and moved really fast. It's like being on a roller coaster or something. I'll have to try that questioning thing.
