Staredit Network -> Melee Chat -> starting a small Ai map database
Report, edit, etc...Posted by bajadulce on 2005-03-13 at 18:44:09
I've started a small database of "Ai friendly" maps. These maps are to have a "pro-like" balanced map feel. At the same time, these maps are designed to allow advanced Ai's to build a "large main". These maps should have a larger than normal main so that Ai's don't suffer traffic jams due to cramped town layouts.

This first map (Tenango) is a luna-like map. 4 player 128X128. I might have possilby gone overboard with the size of mains here tho. blushing.gif

updated final version: Topic moved to showcase

Well this is my first attempt at a fun "balanced" Ai melee map. Give it a whirl with an advanced Ai or vs other humans.

im no fan of ai friendly maps, who plays vs comps anyways?
but this map is well done i like it. good job
the upper left expansion with gas, has one less mineral patch.
The top mid expansion has 7 minerals when the one at the bottom has 8.

Try to put minerals together than to spread them out, it makes for different mining. one player may get it faster than others.
I love the idea of this map, almost like LT, but its much better. good job.
8/10

Wow 8 out of 10 for my first Map ever!

Ok I will admit I don't actually play vs computers much either. But I do however spend hours and hours and hours writing code for computer Ai's. Racine, M_K, and I are for lesser words obsessed w/ this.

On top of that when ppl do play our "mods" certain maps such as Lost Temple aren't very Ai friendly and so I've wanted to start an Ai map database to include w/ our projects.

You've probably played one of our advanced Ai's, but in case you haven't try this out for fun when you want a quick game. Advanced Ai

Thnx again for your input!

Hmmm, don't get to excited I was generous when i gave the 8/10. After looking at it again, its more like a 7. Keep in mind I was grading the IDEA of the map. There are a few unbalances like the fact teal an purp have thier backs to red and blue... That is only one problem though of many more.

This should be in the showcase, i forgot to say. And here is a map pic...[attachmentid=6581]

I apologize for this error. I am now aware of the correct forum and have since started a new topic for the updated version of this map here.

I will be more careful in the future. If any administrator or person with "uber" power would like to "nuke" or whatever else it is they do to misplaced topics, please don't hesitate to do so.

Most melee maps have nothing too do with computer players. I know your just trying to create a very hard Ai system but it seems pretty pointless unless its a UMS map called something like "Melee Challenger" or something. Over all it seems more like a challenge map then a straight up melee map. However, good luck i wish you the best.

Thankyou for your good wishes, and yes, a hard Ai system is a bit pointless. Starcraft Ai will never be able to replace the excitement of a 1v1 human game. There simply is no comparison between the two. However what Racine and I have tried to do is simply give the single-player experience a bit of a boost. Lots of times ppl can't find anyone to play against, and this is a fun way to spend a few minutes here and there. A tuff UMS is rather easy to build just spawn a bazillion units and send them to a "high valued area". If and when you beat this UMS now what? With a complete modified Ai you can play any map you want. What's more is a modified Ai "builds" and "trains" units as opposed to "spawning" in a UMS. This gives a much much more realistic and "human-like" feel.

Maybe you have tried our advanced Ai's? or maybe you have not? over 200,000 ppl have downloaded them. more details here if you are unaware of the Broodwar Ai project.

I offer a small challenge to you that should only take about 15 minutes of your time max. Download this file ----> Attached File BlizzHard.zip ( 224.49k ) Number of downloads: 1

Start a 1v1 comp game by "loading" this file. Choose any map of your choice (this topic's map is a good one for stated reasons. plz don't waste our time with a fastest or money map!). Record the replay and send it to me. I really get a kick out of watching experienced players battle our Ai's. Maybe I can include your replay with my Ai package to help demonstrate what the Ai has to offer. I personally enjoy trying to beat the Protoss as a Terran. Sometimes I can pull it off, but lots of times I get smoked! Have fun and good luck. smile.gif

Ok I put replay up in the topic I started in the correct "showcase" forum.

I was hoping a SEN mod would lock this topic since it is in wrong forum. I guess I should have asked for it to be moved before I started a new one in the correct forum? Damn didn't think of that.

Errors compounded by more errors! My bad. Maybe I'll PM one.
