Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Does Islam Contradict itself?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheDaddy0420 on 2005-03-15 at 20:14:19
I have no clue if it does or not. Just wanted to make another topic that is NOT on Christianity, plus this could be a healthy discussion on Islam. Post any thoughts or comments or questions.

I think that peoples' interests here are generally restricted to Christianity.

Islam contradicts itself just like most other religions do.

It's because you don't see many Islamic Americans or Canadians.

You see a good amount of Islamic Britons. Some of them have tried to convert me on another forum.

People are too afraid to find contradictions in Islam; it would make them seem racist because of all the descrimination against them right now. Granted, it was worse right after 9/11 but it's still there.

You should see the sarcastic comments spewed at the Muslims on the other forums that I visit then.

It's their fault for trying to convert people, I guess.

Any religion with a holy book is bound to be filled with contradictions. A good website for viewing them is: http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/

Yes you are right scrollmaker. To a certain extent. No Bible(or whatever the religion uses) is perfect but I don't think they have contradictions. Maybe a few do but not all of them. Anyways, I am also not sure if any of us have read the Quran. I know I haven't pinch.gif . I do know a few of there beliefs but one I don't understand(where it comes from that is) is there idea to "fast". I believe they call this...Ramadan? Correct me if I am wrong but can soemone share why they do that or where in the Quran it says to do that?

Does Lent ring any bells?

Days in the desert and all that... I believe it is done in Islam for much the same reason as it is done in other religions.

Also, did you know that they praise Jesus in the Quran? They believe that he was a prophet.

Umm no they don't CaptainWill. They think Muhammed is the prophet and that Jesus is a fake. And also, I don't do that whole Lent thing. I never got why people did it anyways. Maybe you should share? And I thought the Quran was based on Muhammed. Why would they care that Jesus fasted? I think your statements aren't correct. I could be wrong but oh well.

Well, they don't fast because Jesus fasted, but the idea behind it is similar.

Also, Muslims believe that there are many prophets, and that Jesus was one of them, and that he came just before Muhammed - whom they believe to be the last prophet.

It was the Jews that described Jesus as the false prophet, I believe.

I thought the sacred text for Islam is Koran.. not Quran.

Just went to dictionary.com and checked, they're both the same thing. blink.gif

Yes, Islam believes there were three prophets. Mosas (being the first), Jesus (being the second) and Mohammad (being the last and most holy of the three). I am almost positive Im correct in this, I just did a outline of Islam last week so if Im wrong please correct me but Im pretty sure Im right about this. They all beleive the Prophets were holy, just Mohammad was more important.

Eh I see. I could have sworn the Muslims thought Jesus was a fake... Anyways, where did they get the idea though? I know what you mean by the idea behind it is similar but who was it that made them do it? They(I believe) claim it to be religious so I assume it means something to them. Anyways, post if ya know anything.

You mean why the Islamics wrote of Jesus in the Koran?

I certainly believe Jesus was a living, historical figure (some people believe otherwise). Jerusalem was, of course, in the Middle East, so it wouldn't be hard to imagine word of Jesus, the man who had claimed to be the King of the Jews (i.e. the topic of much gossip), to spread through to wherever the Islamic religion started (sorry, I don't know). In that sense since the concept of a mortal prophet must have been very important to them, they must have had some faith in Jesus' abilities too.
