Asphalt Bridge Effects!
Hello, welcome all.  I was just busting around idea's for good city bridge terrain for what i may start (A grand theft auto 3 map). I came appon some new types of bridges that can be made. I can also add any type of design i want on the bridge. Unfortunitly i have to attach the images so ill try my best to explain what each one is.

Note: No Sprites were used in the making of these so you can imagen what you could do with sprites..

[attachmentid=6387]
One of them is a blend of Dirt terrain to a asphalt cliff edge like alot of people do with the bridges in jungle terrain, with my own way of blending.  I descovered that the asphalt has the edge tile needed to make a perfect mix of dirt to asphalt.

[attachmentid=6388]
Another one of the bridges shows that you can make a bridge as wide as you want.  As you can see, the edges of the bridge are expanded farther apart then usual. To fill the wider inside of the bridge i simply used the basic square for asphalt tile to create randomly.

[attachmentid=6389]
The last bridge is smaller then usual. I added a pattern to show you, i could have done 3 lines one on the top edge, one in the middle, and one in bottem edge. But i chose just to really do one and as you can see i created the edge which also matches the striped line.

These were all found just a few minutes ago, now if you will please look at the atached images you will see what i have been talking about.

No I don't. Asphalt docks and extended bridges were the first custom terrains made back in the day, and they're a dime a dozen nowdays.

Hmm...i never saw anyone else doing it..

DrunkenWrestler and a few others were messing with Starforge's features back when it was being made, and made a cool area of docks showing off bridge tile remixing and some whacko sprite effects (like nuke dots and pylon glows).

Yeah good job on the bridge but it has already been done. It'd be cool if you make a melee where it was on terrain like that but it could be built on.

Yea, i can tell you put alot of work into this, but it's not new, and you must've seen the jungle terrains and their bridges, which probably gave you the idea to do it in just badlands.

EDIT: also, there's much blockyness in this, if you look closer. In the game, it'll bring out the blockyness. So post screen shots of the bridge ingame and then you'll see alittle blockiness. It's not too bad though.

What makes sprites so special? besides lagging the game they should be used to cover severe blockiness, unless you're using fo trees and bushy effects.

That terrain is going on the pear for Grand Theft Auto.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see whats so special about it. For one of them you simply took the original bridge and made it smaller, and for anoter one you cut the bridge in half and added dirt terrain to the half you cut off... huh.gif

Well theoretically you can build on it. But yeah i felt the same way. It seems like its just the actual bridge without the yellow lines.

Personally, they look the same as the old bridges to me. It doesn't seem like it's anything new.

i thought ppl called them docks, there nothing new but they still look awesome in my opinion...

What docks are you talking about? All of the screenshots he posted were of bridge terrain.

By the way, T-Virus, are these bridges for your Grand Theft Auto map?

That was the first extended terrain released on bnet, made back in the days with a private editor that heimdal made for his team, when the only available editor that could do that was GUEdit and it lagged so bad.

DrunkenWrestler released it in his map 'Kerrigan Has Sex With Duke' and called it 'docks'.

I guess noone posted it earlier because it is really old.

READ THE DAMNED TOPIC BEFORE POSTING.

I think the screenshots look very well done, but the only truly new blend is of dirt to asphalt. Heimdal already blended asphalt to water in his dam. They do look nice without any phosphorus lines, but regardless they are unoriginal and plain. Solid work, 5/10.

To start off ide like too say sorry it too so long to reply. To answer the main question, Those images were little experiments i did for bridges on the grand theft auto map i may start. Also the part where it is blended into dirt, if i do my grand theft auto map, that will be used for the pier. Also it will be used along near the beach that i will include. I plan to become very creative with a mass of terrain that will be required for the grande theft auto map. However, i can only take it too some extent because the map is 256x256. I really need to find a good way to do a real city in nicely done terrain. I also need to develope a better system for side walks. I also want to invent a better wall system to represent more of a fince look so more of a lower wall. If anyone has these types of terrain please submit them and if i use something based of them in the map i will be sure to give you credit.
