The concept is really simple, using floor missile traps, make tiled floor. Use the side missile make the walls. Make sure to use unit floor traps. Then, place any walkable terrain below it, and surroind it will null terrain. Make sure the terrain is not visible. Now here's an example done on Ashworld that looks pretty cool.
Look pretty cool but how did you do the wall on the bottem? it looks a little weird
And this would also use up ALOT of units and you couldn't click anywhere on the floor only where the guntraps are...
It is a good idea though
I know, it's not efficent, but it produces the desired effect. Have you ever been in a bulidng where the interior is dirt, grass, asphalt, or ruins? Still, it needs work. I don't intend to use it for every single room in every single building, but it is nice. If you use only non detector units and give all the floor traps to player 12, you won't have any problems.
On a side note, who says that has to be just one room? You can place location all around it to make it as many rooms as you can imagine. Just create different things in different places for a desired effect and have 2 or 3 styles of rooms.
Heh, reminds me of when I did sprite maps for 16-bit computer RPGs with the rooms compartmentalized and surrounded by null black. Anybody remember that RPG Maker 2K craze?
Anyway, yeah it is pretty inefficient, but it is effective. Good job.
So can this be done without the guntraps? If you just set up the walls but used natural terrain for the floor (in a Space map, for instance) would it still look good or would the floor be really messy at the corners?
Not sure. From what I've seen from doing that is that the walls don't naturally blend into the terrain. Besides, this is for terrains that don't have anything that could substitute for a floor. It doesn't have to use any sprites, and at most would use about two hundred units for the entire map, as long as the rooms are small. I could see it becoming a problem for large buildings or a map that already has alot of preplaced units. Still, you must admit, it looks good.
Looks good! but as they said, very unmovable-ish....
Unmovablish? THERE ARE NOT FREAKIN' PROBLEMS WITH UNITS MOVING OVER FLOOR TRAPS. IF YOU'RE GOING TO TELL ME THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH IT, EXPLAIN IT, DON'T GIVE ME THAT "LOOKS UNMOVABLE" CRAP, THAT DOESN'T MEAN A GOD DAMN THING, EXCEPT THAT YOU WANT TO PUT IN CRITICISM WHEN THERE'S VIRTUALLY NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. /rant There are absolute no movement problems, I've tried it, I know what I'm talking about.
My best guess is that they mean that there are problems with Gun Traps popping up to attack crap, getting in your way.
But that 'best guess' isn't much of a good one, seeing as that's not really much of a problem.
Hmm... just gave me an idea.
As I said before, give them to player twelve, make them invincible, use no detectors around them.
That gives me an idea too... sc would probly crash though... hm... whatever, u dont hafta yell at me!!!
I stated that on normal ground you can click inches away from your person and they will go RIGHT there...
Because there is floor traps wont you be able to click on them which means you move on top of it?
Not if they belong to player twelve. That makes they visible but essentially cloaked. So as long as there's no detector nearby, you're fine.
