Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Badlands Blends v1.0
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-03-18 at 15:16:22
Whew! I just pulled an all nighter to finish this before today. Unfortunately, I took out several of the blends on account of blockiness and/or general uselessness, so you get these: the best of the set. There's a lot of them here, but by no means all that are possible, so I'll likely add more (especially if there's any requests).

And for those who don't bother with things until you get to see them up front, here's some screenies (wuss):

[attachmentid=6467]
[attachmentid=6469]
[attachmentid=6470]
[attachmentid=6471]
[attachmentid=6472]

Disclaimer: These are not perfect. I worked painstakingly to reduce blockiness, but some of these inevitably will have traces of blockiness that can't really be fixed. I worked extra hard to reduce the blockiness on all the important ones (dirt to high dirt, water bridges, etc.), but if anyone comes up with a better way to do any of these I'll gladly add them to the set.

P.S. Sorry, I didn't include the actual brush set with the map. I've been changing it around so much I didn't get the time to recompile all the samples into brushes, but to help I made the brushes into distinct terrain bits that you can easily extract yourself. You can learn how to use brushes here if you don't already. It's just like terrain cut and paste.

Great job Tux. I really like those small building shop things, the water, and all the blending you did. The lowered highland is really cool too.

WOW! This has so many awesome ideas! w00t.gif
I love the thing you did with the green shop, with the marines in it.
Well if you know what im talking about it was very smooth looking to me!

Thanks.

One thing to note: I added some extended cliffs in the bottom-left corner, but I tiled them vertically with each type to show all the types, so they don't look... natural. You will have to mix the tile sections up when doing your own cliffs for them to look natural (not hard). Remember they have to be aligned -1 square next to each other.

Wow.. drool.gif

Some of this stuff is so good. But the grass by the water is a bit blocky. I love what you did.. You made some things closer to the ground and you made individual shops. And thanks for makeing the small brush things next to each area. GREAT JOB.

You're welcome. I was looking for good rocks to use to make the edge blend better on grass, but alas the selection is painfully limited so that's the best I could come up with.

I just realized I'm missing some of the custom doodads I made in my test map and the rest of the water -> templish-dirt/high dirt blendings I did earlier. I'll have to update with those at some point...

eek.gif

The uberness of this stuff makes up for the blockyness.
Even if these were 10x the blockyness they are now, i wud still love them blink.gif

So are these for people to use, or just stare at in awe wishing they could just somehow use them?

(sorry, as ive sed in other posted stuff, i have 1/16 of a brain tongue.gif)

Can't wait to open that map drool.gif

Hry if possable could you add cliff to low dirt? (like in that one quarry thing) and high dirt to low dirt?)

Nm. ill look around... (i left that for idea smile.gif)

I think these are extremely good but kinda blocky... Would you consider letting me put them up on my brush site?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-03-18 at 20:04:17
Sure thing. One thing though: If you consider using them, try to see if you can't come up with a way to get rid of the blockiness on some of them. You don't have to, of course, but at least that way if there's any possible way to improve them then someone might stumble across something I might have missed.

I tried fixing blockies but you got them the best possible. happy.gif I'll add them up sometime soon.

Cool

[quote]Hry if possable could you add cliff to low dirt? (like in that one quarry thing)[quote]Woops, sry missed that one. I'll make a new post sometime to add those. I was just focused on the non-standard blendings only when I was getting them all together last night, and forgot those completely.

I found a map with it, if u want it i can put it here.

I think that the coolness of that thing makes up for the blockyness (as i have said before). I don't care about the blockyness cool1.gif

I forgot who on this site i got this from, but you know who you are. If its you who made this remind me and i shall give u the proper credits you deserve smile.gif

Tux, i made a little thing that is a very simple (seeing as how i amazingly did this when i cant even match 2 tiles together blink.gif ) thing. There is 1 area that is a multi-level thing (testing summit from ur brushes) and a pit that is in low dirt to low dirt. I also started making a pallet for SF of ur custom doodads, walls, cliffs etc. I got bored so ill put what i have. If you bother to look at it and use some brain, u can figure out how i numbered them. it wont let me add. can u add ZIP files? Ill try later. For now, its time to do what ever i do at 10:30pm biggrin.gif

I see people reading this, im scared pinch.gif

NICE JOB Tux!
I like the last one, because I love impossible figures.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShadowBrood on 2005-03-19 at 15:05:09
Yeah those buildings are freakin sweet. Man it's kinda hard to make these for buttons. I gotta start categorizing them too pinch.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-03-19 at 15:14:50
Buttons?

Or brushes? As soon as I get SC access again (not @ my regular comp) I'll get to work on the brush set and updates.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShadowBrood on 2005-03-19 at 15:18:21
I got the brushes but I'm changing the layout so it's organized into user submitted then into the different terrain types like Arctic ro Badlands, then I gotta do all the linking from the nav. bar over and over and over again pinch.gif . Then I gotta make more minibanners for each terrain type. Meh, at least the site isn't as crappy as it was when I first started it...

These are awesome clapping.gif ! True inspiration to me. And I like your site, shadow. I might submit something when I am finished.

Wow... just, wow. I wish there was another way to say thank you over the internet. These help me A LOT on my RPG, since it's Badlands, so I just want to thank you for them. yahoo.gif

No problem. If you need any more, just ask.

And yes, I'll post the .sfb file as a .zip attachment.

Great..Just awesomely great. I love the buildings you made, I know everyone else has been saying it, but just for that extra little praise, great job on the buildings. I hope maybe you can make other brushes too happy.gif
