Hmm, I wonder if this would be a cool idea or not. The idea is to use starcraft MPQ sounds (kinda like
this person did with windows noises) to make a song in game. Maybe even a music movie map.
Just a random idea.
I think for something that complex it is alot more trouble than it is worth. However using the same sound multiple times for one sound effect is a good idea, for an example In house of the haunted my original clock wav was One wav for the entire intro. To save ALOT of file space i made a sample of both parts of clock sounds and use my own waits to time the sections to sound like the full wav.
So as a rule of thumb i guess, there is no point to having the same sound multiple times in one wav.
It's not complex so much as it is a bit work intensive (and with a way to do repetative triggers easier, the only limit would be creativity). My thought is that you'd have to pick out sounds that make good "instruments", then combine them in timed rhythms to make a song. I think stuff like dropship loads, firing pops, death squeaks, and even certain unit quotes could make good "instruments".
I'm not taking this idea to be anything serious, of course. I don't compose music or anything, so I dunno how good I could make it turn out.
I'm trying to think who made a map that actually played out sheet music.
It had like 8 differant notes (or however many there are) and you would place marines along the 'sheet' and when you pressed play a bar would go across and play the music.
I think it was Eternal(U) aka (MM)M@STER
Oh yeah check out this old (U) Webpage Intro Swap(U) made. One of his friends mixed the music with SC sounds and Swap Made it into a flash.

I just attached it to save your geocities bandwidth so anyone who wants to see it after the bandwidth is out
He didn't give credit to Banya for the bg music
I was acctually making the first music contest, i thought the gameplay would be too hard for newbs, but i based it off drawing contest with the judge and everything. You could choose your tempo, test play, and play your music. I never got around to finishing it cause i couldn't find enough good sounds. But the tempos were
Andante- a observer
Moderato - Upgraded Observer
Allegro- Cloaked Wraith.
A location would follow the unit and as units came into it's location itk illed the unit and played its sound.
Lifting your barracks would changed your music type, from country, to jazz, to rock, and all that. I shoulda finished it, i just wish i had more sounds like in Coke Music.
lol, I'm aware this isn't a new idea (my unfinished The Club 2 had a feature for making music AND talking), but I'm talking about a music video with sc sounds. I could very easily add a music composing feature in it as well.
But meh, I think I'll pass on this idea. I got enough on my plate already, and I really don't know how good at composing I would be.
