The core answer to this topic really all ends up with my trademark word, Well, one of them anyway. Depends. It really simply depends on everybody's own personal growth. A person at the age of 18, may have the body and capacity of a 25 year old, which by law, is quite suitable. So the topic is quite delicate. Some people believe that drinking under supervision of a gaurdian is quite acceptable, others may say that every person under 20 can not drink.
But here comes the conspiracy. What does it mean by "drinking" To not make it pathetic, I will continue. Does it mean all alcohol? or simply that of wine, beer, and high-alcohol rated drinks. By that, I mean, Wine, Ice-wine, Lion Red, or any other bits and cans from around the house which parents may/may not be used to having a small sip or a can or two before the night ends.
The other end of it, the lower alcohol products are such as champagne. Just a matter of fact, the most favoured drinks around, Coca-cola contains Cafine and another substance which, when put together, produces the same effects as alcohol. Yet despite this, the alcohol ratings on coke and somewhat, Pepsi, are low due to the value. But think of it this way, if you eat 500 grams of meat everyday, in the end would it not become 5000g (5kg) [Taking in fact that it is over 10 days, and without taking out the digestion rates, exercises which, you may or may NOT do, the occasional 'extra-input' (chips, candy, chocolate bars) or some other things that may increase the calories..], thus, if it was 5000g = the build up of constand eating.
Same way as this is affected in fresh-water fish or marine life. But this really only occurs in Tuna and other fish that swim into/through fresh water from/into the sea. But of course, if you consumed a fresh-water platapus, then fine, it will also happen. Here is the undesired facts.
Tuna = after long periods of time through both parts of water, fresh and salted, there receive and multiple a type of parasite. And we eat it, we get it as well. Over the large assumption of time, what happens? they multiple, and rush into the brain, getting us brain damage or cancer or whatever.
So, thing is, that is why they have a slight and lightish restriction of the cans "An average adult should only consume 5-6 cans per day". But if you must know, nobody really does that. So infact, it all ends up, and get receive into our bodies, alcohol. Which thus I conclude with this. It doesn't really matter HOW old you are, since even at the early age of 3, I see parents giving their childrens coke with their meals. But of course, for serious alcohols, there needs to be a restriction, but, even a 30 year old makes mistakes, so what makes it so certain that a 30 year old won't crash into lives and a 18 year old would?
