I prefer base.
Its so much better and safer to use, and it keeps the style of not placing random units and buildings where they shouldn't be.
I use some of the more advanced editors all the time (Starforge, SCMDraft)
I used to use SCXE back in the day about a year ago, I used Base and Special. Pretty much an equal amount of both.
I usually finish off with SCMdraft and Starforge... but during actual map production, I prefer the feel of classic staredit with the added power of all these other things.
I use starforge for most of the things. If I do use another editor it would probably be SCMdraft. And if I use X-tra i'll use base mode or special mode.
I use special. I don't tend to randomly throw around units everywhere, but I like being able to put units basically anywhere, helps with the map. =/
I used to do:
Special Triggers
SF Unit Placement
SF Terrain
Now if I ever do work on a project:
SCMD2 + SF Terrain
Special Triggers
SCMD2 Unit Placement
I use special editors for unit placement because of the snap to grid and pixel by pixel movement of units.
I always use special, cuz I'm sooooo dang used to it.......
Although Starforge does help put the finishing touches on a map....
Special, since it's the best of the best
i use special mode. becauce i need to experiemnt with new things and hep me with triggers that i dont know with starforges triggers. then i use starforge to finish it off with the map terrain and coloring.
In Order Of Most Used:
Xtra Base
Xtra P-12
SCMDraft2
Starforge
Xtra Special
1 Problem though....
Xtra Editor Version 2.6 on my Old Computer
Xtra Editor Version 2.5 on this Computer
(2.6 will NOT install on this computer, some sort of Procedure Entry Point Riched20.dll Error)
Base Mode and SCMDraft 2 + TrigEdit
Meh, my copy of SCXE got corrupted and I haven't bothered to dl it again. SF for everything cept SCMD for terrain.
Base for placement and stuff starting, then special for weird placement and stuff, and sf to finish. Ah, and SCMDraft for terrain =P
My modded copy of SE...
No useful editors on mac, yet, so I made my own!
I mostly use alternative mode, then after that sometimes base mode, but usually after done using alternative mode, Then I'll start to use GUEdit to finish the rest of the map.
I love Alternative. It's like normal Staredit, but it's not!

Yeah. I wanted to see what people here use. Hey, its only normal. Theres topics over there that were created here that people copied. Forums are all about discussion.
I'm glad at least 1/4th of the people use base... now the world isn't doomed!
Lol yeah, I usually stick with base when I start. I switch to special later on when unique placement is required, then finally Starforge for finishing touches.
I use the more advanced editors because they are good.
I use SCXE (any mode) So I can use the trigger for CreateUnitWithProps. Because StarForge doesn't have it yet....
order is
starforge
scxe special
scxe base
scmdraft2
scxe p12
scxe alternative|classic
SCXE for triggers if I am making large systems - text editor is hard on my eyes.
SF for everything else.
Special Editor for me always!
It's a little tricky poll tho, because:
1. people may use extra and other editors, so where to vote?
2. people may use base and special, so where to vote?
3. people may use base, special, starforge, scmdraft, picturemap, and the original staredit, so... it's like... where to vote?
I voted special because, well, it can open most maps unlike base and still allow the original trigger making which is much more organized and bug-free than other editors, but I also use base a lot - mainly when I make maps myself, because as earlier stated it's 'safer' and has normal building placement.
