ON HOLD
DEMO IS FINISHED.
I've attached the demo of the map at the bottom of my post.
If you find any bugs, post them here and I'll fix them ASAP in the next demo release.
I'm putting this map on hold for a week or so, to brainstorm ideas and how to plan out the next parts of my map. I may release a demo in a couple of days to please some people, but don't expect a miracle.

Story:
Deep inside of the heart of the former Confederate homeworld, Tarsonis, a group of stranded United Earth Directory elites reside. They must work together to unite all survivors of the forsaken planet, raise from the rubble, and rally under one common goal for all Terrans to strive like the Protoss, and Zerg alike, Survival.

After witnessing the destruction of several Terran fleets to the power of the Zerg Swarm, you and your men drop down upon a damaged outpost. Activating a nearby switch, you activate the defense system which tears the burrowed zerglings to shreds. The doors open, as you travel down the ramp and eventually meet up with a group of marines. You and the marines move forward and are ambushed by a considerable amount of zerglings and hydralisks, plowing them down, you travel till you come upon a defensive outpost stationed. You look in the distance as you see Duran, face to face with a army of Hydralisks and a renegade Cerebrate...

The game will be plot-heavy with cutscenes as to put the spotlight on the story. This cosides with the Brood War story.

Gameplay
No major game engine in place yet. Upgrade facilities located in upgrades, beacons will be used for heal.
Bosses are going to be interactive and unique, as they aren't the typical attack and kill types. One boss will require you to "break" a code using a unique trigger system.
First boss complete: Hybrid Crysalis.

Game Info:

Map Type: Badlands
Size: 256x256
Players: 5
Type: Survival/Action Adventure

Also, this game requires a massive amount of teamwork, so it'll be VERY hard for two-three players to do it alone, it'll mostly require a full house of pros to win.

I'll type up more once I can think of more things.

Updates:

03/27/05

Revamped some of the terrain to better fit the units. Modified UED units hp so they aren't as dominating, spawns in the first boss area slightly adjusted so that zerg is able to push more, first boss is almost done, need to add final cutscene of it's death. Added screenshot of the first boss battle.

03/28/05

Finally finished the first boss; Hybrid Crysalis. The triggering was a huge mess. All heal triggers and SCV triggers operating, and final cutscene is completed. Currently deciding whether to implement intro + choose guys or the next settlement. Added a screenshot of me and rcf trying to beat the first boss. wink.gif Balanced out the first boss some more, finished terrain of the first settlement residing in a canyon. Added selection of UED elites. Wondering if I should do a typical survival map or "leveling" up in terms of hp. Difficulty has been jacked up 10x since of my new hp system, it'll come useful later when you gain hp as the enemies do. I have to rebalance enemies again since the UED elites are powerfully weak at the beginning. It does incoperate team work though, as it is still possible to defeat the first boss with only about 300-500 hp. crazy.gif Damn, balancing is a b****

03/29/05
Added some more triggers to the health system, finished doing some of the gameplay engine, enemies now give experince and minerals, upgrade system for all players is being worked on, player 1 is completed. Heal system is fully operational, now working on the caves of the canyon. Upgrade system slightly tweaked, adding proper values to the upgrade locations, adding cutscenes in the canyon. Did a major overhaul on how the cut-scenes play out, normal blue text is used for dialouge, with red, green and yellow indicating enemy, you're talking, and allies.

I have to put this map off since it got corrupted, and my latest copy was about 2 hours of work before my latest backup. God...it's corrupted, and I tried opening it in SCMDraft 2, and it's protected somehow. =/

Yeah, it's corrupted. Can't even play it. I have a friend who might have my latest version, but if his is corrupted, I'll probably call it off. =/

Despite how cliched the story might sound, this seems like a map Id like to play. I dont know why, but it stands out from the other maps for some odd reason.

I'd like to know if you guys would like a playable beta after I finish the whole canyon mission. It's possible, and I'd like to see how many would approve of it.

A Demo?
Excellent.
smile.gif I would like to try it out atleast, test it or something, even if it is just a demo. biggrin.gif

A demo would be sweet, since this seems like a very good map, and diffrent than most of the stuff you find on Battle.Net these days

I thought of doing something involving the UED back when I first began producing maps, but I never went through with it. Is this going to be a campaign? Didn't Arcturus Mengsk make his capital on Tarsonis after he conquered it? Or am I completely confused about this?

Anyway, some suggestions include various "missions" with different squads, maybe even simultaneously, as you take checkpoints, defend, rescue desperate outposts, etc. as you rally the Terran forces and make your way to the starport.

This could become a kicking campaign as your forces rally other remnants of the UED fleet and gain allies among the way, like the besieged Tarsonis forces as you help them survive. Hopefully a large assault on a heavily fortified (but not the main) zerg planet will conclude this campaign, but these are just concepts.

Very cool looking screenshots you got there. This map will be awesome by the sounds of it when it is fully done. Wish you good luck on finishing your map. smile.gif

Hm...I meant this to be a one mission sort of thing. I might of done a sequel where the UED Elites come back to Char and kill Kerrigan, but maybe after I finish this. I do have simple missions, as saving miners of an outpost, helping defending an outpost, defeating Duran's bosses, I might do that rescue mission though. If you played the Brood War missions of the Zerg, they completely overrun Tarsonis, I'm pretty sure. Kerrigan leaves for Char, and Duran "disappears" as the last mission of the Brood War Campaign takes place on the platform over Char.

If you've seen my first boss, then it'll be clear. I just like this map since I have innovative bosses, they're really cool to fight tongue.gif

If you do make a campaign,
It would be AWESOME, if you made it multi-player enabled, there just isn't enough GOOD multi-campaigns... in fact, I don't even know if there is any!

Good luck.

Multi-player "campaigns" are impossible in the traditional sense where one map leads to another. The host would have to rehost the map between every level.

LOOKS GOOD!!!!

we want a demo.. sounds very good

although the story line seems a bit... well not as good as it could be..

straight to an army of hydralisks and duran? thats going a little to fast...

BUT I WANT TO PLAY IT ANYWAY. its somehow seems different.

P.S. Great screenshots.. why the hell are there so many testers?? lol...

No, that actually happens in the map. I just added that to make the story more detailed.

I use a very effective and efficient system for healing and upgrading, using the same 5 locations for all 5 players. ^_^ Saves me so much work.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Moogle on 2005-03-31 at 08:47:24
May save you work, but also saves you locations. Will there be mass on war? Between Terrand and Zerg, like Aeon of strife kinda? be pretty wicked i guess.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ultimo on 2005-03-31 at 08:49:33
Sort of like the first boss? I'll probably do that as the finale. One final push down into the belly of the Zerg Swarm, ooo...that would be great. I always love doing AoS scenes, based on one of my favourite maps obviously.

And those for you wondering, I just completed the cave corridor mission. All I need to do is balancing and tweaking that part. I'm beginning to think this map will turn out VERY easy for 5 players, except for the fact each player gets less minerals and experince, which is made up by more force. Me and my testers usually beat it with 3 people, 2 people most of the time. Maybe it's since I'm the maker of this map...lol.
