If you take a 3d dimension cube, and make it 2 dimension, yet, still have it exist in a 3d dimension presence, what would it look like?

It will look like a really thick page with no shadow from the sides, and if you'll look at it from the side with the missing dimention it'll appear to be invisible.

I thought it would be impossible to have a 2-Dimensional object in a 3-Dimensional environment.

Surely if it has no thickness then it has no atoms making it up, and therefore it does not exist.

Hmm. It's one of those contentious questions again.

Heh, well of course it can't exist, but as in theory - if a thing like that does exists, wouldn't it simply be what I described? after all, if that thing will... be... it'll still have two dimentions, thus you'll still be able to 2-dimentionally see it.
Just like objects over your computer screen, they truly have thickness but you always only see two dimentions of it, so you kow how it looks.

You can't have a 2D object in a 3D World becasue it wouldn't exist.
Atoms are 3D models so it can't be made out of atoms therefore it does not exist.

If it were to exist then the following would happen.
  • If you looked at it at a 0° from the side which is missing a dimension then you wouldn't be able so see anything.
  • If you looked at it from 90° from the missing side then you would see it like if it were a computer screen(since it's completely flatflat).
  • If you were to look at it from any other angle then all you would see is the same as if it were from 90° since it would have no depth. You would look at it like if it were a flat area from an angle.

If it COULD exist, it would be exactly what beer said. It would look like a billboard in an old nintendo 64 game. For example, a 2D fence in a 3D world. This is illustrated below using examples from Super Mario 64 (great game smile.gif )

Image 1: Fence from a diagonal viewpoint (railing of the ground, it is visible but looks like a sheet of paper, not surprisingly)

Image 2: A railing that is being looked at almost from the side, it would be impossible to see because it has no thickness. Because of this, you would be able to see on both sides without a break in the middle (making it invisible)

My theory is that the universe would be wiped out of existence due to some anomaly. Good game, no rm, friends. happy.gif

It would be a piece of paper. Drawn on it, a 3-d cube.

My other guess-
It would be a piece of paper. Shaped as a square.

Just as said in the above posts, a 2 dimensional object in our dimension would be impossible.

But anyways, dont we live in FOUR dimensions? We have depth, height, and width, but we are also moving the through the fifth dimension of time.

2-d objects are possible in our world. Draw a square. A 2D OBJECT!

Well, I guess my logical explanation would be. Play halo 2, but all the enemies are like from doom 64, they take a new form when they turn, they are flat but can turn around and stuff. But it would be a 90 degree turn each time, not small little turns of the head. I guess thats where I am getting at.

Are you sure the dimension that no longer exists wouldn't be infinite?
If you take a two dimensional square and make it one dimensional in a 2d world, would it look something like:
-------------------
\..........................\
/........................../
\...........................\
/______________/
?

Where the jagged edjes just repeat forever? It has one true dimention, height, and no length?

I was applying this to time too...
If we could remove ourselves from the dimension of time, yet, still appear in 3 dimensions, would we be standing in the same spot as we were in 4 dimensions 3d-wise, yet, our presence in the time dimension would extend infinitely into the past and future?
