We all remember the good old games where such little amusment could entertain use for an hour or so. Where you would call out "D-4!" and you friend might say "Hit!"
Well I'm bringing Battleships to SC BW.

[Game Specs:]

Players: 2
Map size: 64x128
Terrain: Jungle
Game Type: Arena/Click

[Ship Placement:]

Before the game acctually begins you get to settup your ships, like in Tuxedo-templar's Minesweeper you get a mutalisk. You morph to a devourer to rotate your ship; or you morph to guardian to place it. You get the Original five ships:
-Carrier (5)
-Battleship (4)
-Destroyer (3)
-Submarine (3)
-Patrol Boat (2)
Once both players have placed their ship the fun begins...

I do not know why but i've always played by the rules that no 2 ships can be touched each other. Which leads to more strategicness since most of the game is pure luck. So once you find a ship, you can know now other ships will be touching it, except at corners.

[Firing:]

You get a scourge when it is your turn, you move in around your enemies 10x10 area until you find a place you would like to hit. Then you build a nuke from your Silo. If you hit a cannon, it will kill the cannon, play a explosion.wav and a red cocoon will spawn over your targetted spot. Then it begins the other players turn. If you miss it spawns a white cocoon and makes a splash sound.

I've also added the grid even though it is not needed in the situation; so minerals are the y-axis and gas are the x-axis. If you wanna tell each other where your ships are or do some tricking to your opponent you can give them the cordinate. I've had fun with that.

(Notice the minerals in this tell the A-J cordinates, and the vespene gas tell the 1-10 cordinates in the grido n the game).

No release date soon because i just started it yesturday after school, spent 7 hours on it. Also I might need to add some other items, like heat seekering missiles. Or bigger bombs to hit a 3x3 radius. But its looking good right now, although im having a problem with the firing system ill get it fixed by today.

im just saying it doesn't look much like a grid... Mabe you could find a way
to make it actualy seeable grid spaces with different terrain...

A way to do that is to cover the WHOLE side that you own and the other player owns in 1 type of water (pallet chose a light colored water) Then chose a different type of the water (palete once again, DIfferent Style) and it would still look like its on water but it would be easier to see the grid lines and not miss the shot

Well for some reason I cant' get on B.net, and i was just testing overlaps. So i guess Ill have to wait for my connection again. Don't worry, I dont overuse the overlap tool, i probably dislike overlaps just as much, the only thing i use it for is to get grey text in the middle of other colors, so the force Ship commander looks like this.

Okay Just an Update, 4/02/05:

I have finished the Ship Placement; hense, one tiny little bug.
I have also done the firing system, and tested the map with a few friends, and so far all i can say is that it's great and alot of fun. Ill upload a screen shot to the first post.

I HAVE FINISHED THE MAP!!!! w00t, and I'm very proud of it since most of my map never get finished. Anyway, I added many systems to this and put alot of hard work into it, Right now I am BETA testing with my friends for any bugs or glitches. The map should be in the dldb in a day or 2. Hope you enjoy it and it removes some boredom in your life. I might make a number 2 in the future, including all new function of my version of the game. With special items and shots. This time i decided to keep it Original.

Well, I can't wait to play it! This sounds like a blast. biggrin.gif Do you have to hit their ships as many times as the ship count is like the actual game?

My thoughts on battleship 2: (if you make one)
For added extremity have two player teams and movement of ships crazy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TRiGGaMaSTa on 2005-04-04 at 10:17:30
Lol, moving the ships turn based would be pretty awsome.. I could think about it. And yes the game was created exactly like the original Battleships. Can't place other ships right night to each other... All that jazz.

That's pretty amazing how you brought all these ideas together and are actually making an interactive battleship map.

I also like how you've setup the rotations and movement.

When do you plan to release this map?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TRiGGaMaSTa on 2005-04-05 at 22:42:28
I'll be releasing it very soon, expect to see it in the dldb. Or if im lucky on SEN spotlight!!.. That would pwn. But i still havent had someone test the glitch with me since the glitch requires 2 players. Also, I pwnt Tuxedo-Templar at battleships!! OMGOMG... He said it was a decent map biggrin.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SoulVision- on 2005-04-05 at 22:45:58
Ill test, whisper me on Mp)SoulVision if you still need a tester...Always glad to help smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by axblader on 2005-04-05 at 23:24:16
il test too, plus i can help if you need too, i got like a hour or so on weekdays, weekends im usually busy.

it'd be fun though, helpnig out.

i can make the heat seeking, not too hard.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TRiGGaMaSTa on 2005-04-06 at 00:30:46
Well, im actually done with the map because I decided to make it as original as the actual game. So every thing is done and flawless besides a glitch where if player 1 finishes placing ships first everything messes up. Its easy to fix, just i havent been on to test it, or others won't test with me when i am.

However, if i decide to make a number 2. Ill make it so you vote in the beginning something like, original or SC style. Where it'll have all the fun things.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-04-06 at 00:37:03
Yeah it was pretty good. I remember the board being bigger in the actual game, but I can't remember too clearly. Seemed to work ok for the map. But the only thing I'd suggest is mute unit sounds, as they tend to mingle with the map's sounds a bit.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TRiGGaMaSTa on 2005-04-06 at 00:48:05
Yea i'll do that. Would that be the reason my loops sometimes skip? or the lag from the grid system?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-04-06 at 01:39:35
Lag. Game sounds I think add a little to lag, but not nearly as much as grid system triggers I find. The best solution would be to break up the looping wav into many small pieces, and string them together to loop that way. You may still get skipping, but it won't be as bad.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TRiGGaMaSTa on 2005-04-06 at 01:46:57
Yea like in your Map you showed me the other night. I already sat down and mesmerized the triggers biggrin.gif, i have too much spare time. But i just remember and extremely important key rule, and i don't know why no one told me this before!!!!!.

The rules is when you hit the enemies ship you get to go agaiN!! OMGOMG> im an idiot. Ill get to work on that first thing tomorrow after skol.
