For the ones who haven't guessed it yet, the automodder thing was an april fools joke. There is no such a program, but that doesn't mean that everything was fake. In fact, a program like that is possible, and the idea was from MM-Heimdal and Tuxedo-Templar back at BF when SF was first announced. The idea was to include a mod in the map mpq and a program running on the background reads the mod and changes the values in memory. The problem is that after each patch the memory addresses change and I would have to find all the new addresses again.
A proof of that it works is memgraft. Memgraft allows the users to mod the techtree, wich is hardcoded into SC, and it does it changing values in memory after SC loaded it.
An alternative idea is call the functions that load the data in SC, so they reload all the data again from the mpqs, but I don't have the dissassembling skills to do so tongue.gif
So there might be a program like that in the future.

About my secret project, yes, there is one, but its still secret ;P

I wanted to say also that I didn't edit any replies, that was ip's idea, and ip did everything, I just posted the news and stayed looking at the funny replies (some of them were really funny! tongue.gif)

And I made this news topic for a second reason: I'm going on vacations today for a week, so I won't be around in a week. You can start now the no-Clokr's party tongue.gif

As a side note I wanted to say that SCMD2 won't load wc2 maps, it was SI's april fools joke and ask you if you saw google's april fools joke: googlegulp, wich is quite funny tongue.gif

Hehe, if only they would've seen what I had for April Fool's here at SEN. It was going to be much worse for the users and the staff/admins would be laughing their butts out of this.

I believed it because I know it's possible. Can't understand why anyone hasn't done something like this sooner. Aqo, I think your information is a little off about needing the whole restart thing for it to work.

Hmm, sounds like a project idea to me. This could really help bring back mapping if done right.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Jordan on 2005-04-02 at 17:21:28
yes it would help out mapping but it would also do some bad things:
hax more eliter now.
blizzard be pissed cuz they already pissed from the mods created by people.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-04-02 at 17:35:05
It would be a hack, yes, but not the kind that would ruin it for everyone else. Seeing as how it would require everyone playing to have the program installed for the mod to work properly, and thus knowingly allow it, I don't see why this would be a problem for Blizzard.

Oh really?

Well, I just did manually what the program should appearently do, replace the *.mpq to the mod's *.mpq, and guess what error message did I see?
(view attachment)

This is not fake, try opening StarCraft yourself and replace the *.mpq, it won't work, you'll have to close SC, than replace the *.mpq, than re-open, to make it work.

Tux, it would still be considered a Hack by Blizzard, and fall under their guidelines for possible targets to Account Ban. Because of how it would manipulate Starcraft data being sent between users on Battle.Net.

It's an impossible dream, and none of you have the skill, time or patience.

Well, technically it's not legal to make 3rd party editors, either. I figure as long as it doesn't cause a problem for them, I don't see why they should make an issue out of it. Especially if it brings new life and interest to the game. If they did then, it would be like shooting themselves in the foot.
Yeah I suppose it's possible they could make an issue out of it still. But I can only see that happening if this gets in the way of something they would want to do. But honestly, where else do we have to go from here? SC is reaching the end of its creativity line, as we're already resorting to messing with extended players, sprites glitches, butchering terrain tiles to new affect, spell and unit glitches, and trigger tricks that push every SC limit there is. Modding may not be anything new, but unless we at least TRY to do something to make it a part of bnet-workable map making, there won't be much of a long-term future for SC mapping. Unless Blizzard get's off their asses and does something (I'd rather not sit and wait for them, though).

I hope you guys are starting to see my logic, and stop seeing only the April fools joke part of this.

Theoretically you're idea is good, but practically - SC is dying, within 1-2 years no one will play it anymore, working hard for making the mods a usual part of bnet would be a whast of time that no one is willing to take.

Surely the date of which it was posted gave it away? Nobody releases things on April Fools if they want to be taken seriously...

Except AmbrosiaSW. They released Darwinia on April Fools. They did play a prank though, releasing 'ScreenCleaner Pro' which claimed it adjusted screen gamma and improved image quality. What it actually did was dim your screen slowly over the course of 10 minutes and then announce it had collected enough gamma data, and put it back to the way it was. Heaps of people fell for the joke. It was pretty funny.

It's a program that actually works for free and is downlodable. Get it from their site, just for fun. Ir requires MacOS X, so no PC's.

Wait, if the automodder thing isn't Clokr_'s secret project and the auto modder had a rating of 12/10. Then that must mean that Clokr_'s real secret project must have a rating of 27/10...
Right?
