Staredit Network -> Concepts -> New decoration trick discovery

In the previous patches when you made sprite 249, unchecked draw as sprite and checked "disabled??" it would make a cloaked crystal that was unclickable and would provide a large square of creep that no one could build on. This is a well known trick and a description of it is given here.
This was impratical for decoration, because there could only be 255 sprites on a map.
Also in patch 1.12 (or maybe a slightly earlier patch) some kinda change was implemented that had the side effect of making it so that sprite 249 was a spawning pool (with the same effects) instead of a crystal.
However I found a way to recreate the cloaked Khaydarin crystal (that creates "creep"), and the best part is, this time I'm not limited to 255 of them tongue.gif.
Using my method, combined with starforge's handy array feature, I was able to get the following screen shot.

That picture was ingame right? Also those are more than one of those sprites right? Can you show a pic of just one?

well those are not sprites for one thing. the other thing is that to place them you just place unit 233
also player 254 crashes sc if the map is not the first one loaded

Oh, I didn't really get what it was and how it looked like.

Stupid brother! Taking credit for all my stuff ranting.gif
I wasn't supposed to say that until a little bit later. And I discovered that player 254 would crash it were not the first map loaded (if you hit restartmission it crashes, lol).
The picture is coming soon.
And becuase my brother already showed you the method. I'm going to post the map to.

Two accounts for two people. It's perfectly legal.

This crap would be extremely useless for an actual map, there's probably so many sprites it'll lag anyone. Since the new patch, any units/sprites above 228 are altered. 249 crashes. Spawning pools can't spin, and I know what you said was bullshit.

true, just as long as you dotn abuse it...

anyways, ive never seen a unit look like that before...

Umm, their units not sprites.
Yes, this is the new patch. Under the old one 233 crashed or didn't do anything. Under the most recent patch unit 233 was altered from nothing to a cloaked cystal and such.
Spin??? Oh I see why your confused. You can't seletect those units, so therefore you can' move them. If you could, then there would be problems.
Also, those are kinda harsh words?
You know what I said was BS? What did I say that say that was such BS???
The cystals aren't one unit. The screen shot is a formation of around 300 unit 233s in a decrotive patern.
Try it your self deathknight. Place a unit 233 on the map and load it. If it's owned by you or a player you share vison with you can see the unit without a detector.

That makes it worse. 1700 unit limit.

Anyway, sorry about that. I thought you said "spinning" pool, but it turns out it was "spawning pool". I said it was bullshit because I misinterpreted you.

the 1700 unit limit is better than the 255 sprite limit. its hard to fill 1700 units unless your playing a massing game.

The sprite limit is not 255. It is much higher than 1700.

ok i admit it i was wrong, but who cares, it still works and it looks pretty good. do units = less lag?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2005-04-09 at 13:49:13
Units would cause more lag, simply because it's a unit, not just an image(sprite).

So, what did you do?
I tried placing some Unit233's in a different map, and it crashes.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-04-11 at 08:17:29
Umm, that's odd.
Anyway, I've been exsperimenting with hyper units some more.
Unit 6500 makes a zelot death sound when the game starts, displays the text "You can't build there" (or whatever the error message is when you try and build something on illegeal terrain). Then makes a mini map ping at the location of the unit. The wierd thing is I placed the unit 6500 over snow, which you can build over.

This can be usefull becuase you can use it to make minimap pings upon map start up without tirggers. It's also it's also a nice effect.

There was another cool unit I found. I wrote down the number, but I forgot it. I'll tell you it's number when I get home. I placed the unit and started the map. After the breifing the zerg voice (I was playing as P1, with zerg as my race), said "Nucular launch detected", then starcraft crashed with an error saying "Could not find scirpt ############" (I forget the numbers it used, but they were long and meaningless).
This unit was somewhere in the 6000 range.

EDIT: The unit with the wierd crash was unit 6776.
I wasn't able to replicate it's effects. But this map should do the trick.
