I have used Scmdraft2 before but I keep on seeing people say that starforge is better. I don't know which to install because i uninstalled Scmdraft2 but I want to still make maps. I'm thinking of installing Starforge thought. What do you think i should use?

If you ask me, I'd say Starforge. Although I may be a little biased.

Why not just try them both and use whatever you like better, or use them both in parallel? They're not mutually exclusive, you know.

Use what ever one is easiest for you, Or just use the one that you feel more comftorable with. mellow.gif

One is better at terraining (scmdraft), the other is more versatile all around.(starforge)
but if you insist that we people on sen should run your life for you, I'd go with starforge. smile.gif

Accually Starforge seems easier for terrain since it doesnt have a menu and its always located at the side and never gets in your way, along with the pallete of all the tiles pop up as a seperate window which makes it easier to hide and access by your tool bar. Also starforges triggers are more stable. As of now starforge seems to be the better program, the only thing i use scmd2 is for the map zooming feature.

SF changes that ISO thing when you place square terrain. I would prefer SCMDraft for terraining.

It hasn't done that since version 2.0, more than a year ago. It's true that if you make a map with SF it will never have an ISOM section, but it will no longer remove an already existing one.

Right now the only things Starforge has that is better than SCMD2:

1. Brushes.
2. Placing extended players/units.
3. Easier to use trigger editor.
(though I prefer SCMD2's because I can make triggers faster with it ... TEXTPAD!)

how can textpad be faster? i have to add in those "========\\" lines after each one...

but i dunno about ver #7, havent used the trigedit in SCM for a while.

Bah, my bad, I guess its time to start downloading all the new versions of everything that I've been too lazy to download, such as new proedit, SF, SCMDraft.

I love StarForge. I started using SCMdraft when there was no Trigger Editor. Then I stumbled on Starforge and I just <3 it. I do use both though. SF a lot more than SCMDraft though.

Textpad has an advanced find/replace editor. I make a trigger with X instead of the numbers in the condition and Y as the numbers in the actions and copy pasted it a thousand times. Then I used a simple find replace script to replace X with numbers starting with 1 incrementing by 1 and the same for Y.

Textpad is VERY powerful on it's own and when combined with other programs it can be the ultimate text editing tool. Though what I can't do very well is compose an english report ... you need OpenOffice.org or Microsoft Word to do that. wink.gif That is why I say SCMDraft 2 has the superior trigger editor despite not being user friendly (right now, it already has a better GUI under construction and you can already set shortcuts in it ... like PT(); instead of PreserveTrigger().

You may be a little biased? Lol, that just strikes me funny happy.gif

Starforge is still better but not for long unless Heim puts out v3.

I still work faster with X-tra o.O The thing is I tend to slow down when it's repetitive triggering or when I've done it for a long time. I can still trigger pretty fast though. o.O

If you go edit the LST files for Starforge you can change the function names to whatever you like.
