Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Using the timer as team scores

I have yet to see this in a map, so I'm guessing its original. But couldn't people use the countdown timer for a scoreboard during team games and such. Granted this would only work for two teams, but I think it would be useful. wink.gif

That's an interesting idea.

If you wanted to do it, you'd have one team add 60 to the timer whenever you want to add to their score, and the other team would only add 1.
But then the maximum score must be only 59, so there's limited use for it.

Hmm... Okay? I don't think I could ever use that idea in my map, So I'am just going to leave this topic...

Very nice, too bad there is a score limit of 59 capped at 55 or 50 to make it look good.

It's fine I guess but it seems sort of... needlessly complicated for the effect. I never really saw anything wrong wiht leaderboards. closedeyes.gif

Well just think of it as another counter system display. We have leaderboards, ore, gas, supply, and countdown timer was traditionally used to indicate time. But if there is no time in a map, why not abuse it for something else?

Yea, but we already got some many different ones to use with leaderboards. I agree with DT, just let counters be counters, keep it simple cool1.gif .

bah you could have team scores be a clock and how many points individul players in the teams be leaderboards or something. Or if there are multiple point systems in a game. I'm just thinking that it looks a little more professional than having a bunch of numbers in the upper left corner.

it just takes too much effort for what it is. it would look cool I guess.

its not bad, you could easily use it in a tennis map or something like that and then add to the leaderboard the score. i think i sprung an idea!

its not that complicated you know...just keep adding one every second. then when you need to, change it to change the score.

Yeah it's not really complicated

good idea, but only if the leaderboard being used. Cause you know, some teams will be confused which side of the clock they are (unless it's a horizontal map and the teams are placed respectively). Otherwise it may confuse some players if the teams are in the wrong placement. It's not really worth stressing out over little stuff like that, so the scoreboard is just simpler to use. Of course you could have a text message indicating what team is on what side of the clock.

Doing that would make it nearly impossible. How would you time 1 second? 1000 Milliseconds? That wouldn't work with differing game speeds. There is a "Pause timer" action. I assume that you can still change the timer when it is paused? That would make it much easier...

I really want to see someone use this...it's a nice idea!

Yes, Heimdal. It's implied that you pause it first.

i was gonna say not that i would do it but adding 1/second would be needlessly complicated. pause timer action when i make maps i just go right through and get it ill look into that
*walks away muttering pause timer*
