Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Mountain
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2005-04-09 at 19:11:39
On Thursday I worked on a moutain, no, not too much like the on in the hall of fame. A moutain that ended in a point and could not be walked on. On Jungle or Badlands. Why? Because I got an idea for a map that I will actually finish, (or start, for that matter). Well, here it is. If anyone can make a better, (and not over-sprited), version, have any ideas for improvement, etc, tell me.

pretty good, i see some blocky tiles that can be fixed but thats really good...

i just noticed that youve been pumping out terrain every few days, and there still really good, keep doing this and yull eventually get in the hall of fame or sumdan...

Looks pretty good, although the sides seem too even. If there are some bits sticking out over others, it'll look more natural.

Good Job Overall smile.gif

It seems like you could cut down on the blockyness really easy, and I believe stuff like this has been done, not that exactly, but I've known about the whole steep sides thing (not strait up and down but not exactly isom.)
GJ though! happy.gif

...<< Wow. And I actually don't like it. Yeah, I pretty much gave up after awhile.

I made a mountain and it wasnt just a spike in the ground. It was multiple levels of high dirt and low dirt. I'll post a screenshot once I get my computer working again.

But that's what I want, a non-walkable, smooth mountain. Think of a cartoon representation of a mountain. You know, basically just a spike.

I like it. But try putting stuff in layers, like a real mountain has. Like having the skeletons on most of the first or second layer, then the ones with grass are closer to the top. It looks great, though. And also for a shadow try making some cloaked lifted buildings at the top right or left. The shadow sprites are nice and big.

Thats pretty good. Its blocky, but probably can be fixed easily. I've never seen any mountain like that. Gj.

I like the texture of it. Its still too much of a pyramid for my mountain-taste.

'Least it wasnt a spike in the ground. lol. I'll make one soon. (or maybe soon = now)

All done. I kmow it isnt exactly Mount Everest; or the best picture. But you should get the point. I did it in less than a minute (took me a while to get Sf2 on this comp and decide to do it)

That's EXACTLY the opposite of what I was trying to make.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by glytchur on 2005-04-10 at 10:05:36
wouldnt the opposite of what yur trying to make be a hole in the ground?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2005-04-10 at 10:36:17
...No, actually the exact opposite would be a bear made out of peanut butter.

It's great, it's just a bit too narrow.

It looks like a huge pillar to me—or some kind of rock growth.

Maybe you could make it bigger and get some jungle tiles into it? Possibly put some tree or bush sprites?

a non-walkable - It isnt walkable.
smooth mountain - Don't understand that, it isnt all rugged (if that what you mean)
You know, basically just a spike - A spike is exactly that, a spike. It isnt a mountain. it would be more of a stalagmite. if you made the mountain wider (like I did) but taller (like you did) it wouldnt be a spike/stalagmite.

Here are some cartoon mountains I drew, yes they are like yours except, cartoons are usually 2D. But SC also is 2D, but it adds depth so its like 2.5D. So that "mountain" of yours should be wider. I'm not saying its bad, im just saying it looks funny. Too narrow.

I suggest make it wider and less of a diomond/square shape at the base. (mine was flat, I didnt want to add 7 levels. but at least it wasnt a stretched pyramid)

Uh... it was really just to show a minature version of what would be much larger in game. Large screenshot= large filesize.

I don't know how you could do this, maybe dying scourges or disruption web mixed with pylon effects, but I think this would be awesome if they were mountians rising out of a mist. w00t.gif An I think it would be cool if you combined many of those mountains with different sizes and slopes. Like what Farty1billion was saying.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by O)FaRTy1billion on 2005-04-10 at 17:11:35
If you combined them that would be good, then it wouldnt just be one mountain that looks like a spike.

Make a mountain range w00t.gif

How about a Cold Mountain like Mount Everest.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Grizzly(B2BF) on 2005-04-12 at 14:52:52
That twighlight mountain is kinda cool. It just looks a bit plastic. If you made the "snow" at the top a lil' more rounded on the bottom edge - so it's less like a triangle, the mountain would be more in perspective with the terrain. Also a few random bits of "snow" wouldn't go amiss.
