Continue the disscusion of melee vs regular maps and what you think about them.
Money maps are indeed crap, but sometimes I just play it just for fun, trying thigns I've never done before and such. Money maps aren't so bad in UMS melee style maps (omfg the lings).
But when you are playing tvb or melee, I'd prefer a regular map
Unless I'm playing them for the fun of it, I believe they're crap too. They just look so ugly, unnatural, and takes the fun out of strategy. Conventional maps are more better and are pleasing to the eye.
Non money maps are fun for a true strategical game and looks natural. Money maps = play to backstabb those who play it. Money maps are also fun if you want to do some stupid things and try stuff out.
Yea, I used to be a money map player (when they first came out, i was ten, im 15 now) but now im on the wagon.
The main reason i started this disscussion was because in my other thread we had a pretty good discussion on it, but it was off topic.
When playing a money map, you are destroying your melee skills, playing with newbs, macroing 500 archons and 3 trillion lings or 75 bc's (exagerated).
Regular maps, on the other hand, need much attention. There are rarely huge armies, so enemies can be hard to spot, microing is a must. You must build defense and an army while teching and building expansions. You need to upgrade things with very limited amount of money as well. These are a few of the things that make regular harder.
When I first started starcraft, All I played was non fast melee maps, And I have only played fast maps, Once.
So I think fast maps = Crappy maps that people make, That think they will get popular for making maps, That people actually play on B.NET.
Should have just renamed your topic, then... This will only go in circle with the same grins and arguments again...
Money maps basically affected those who started starcraft around 2000-2001, because that's when they came out (I think -_-). Old-school players who played sc when it first came out did not have money map except bgh, and you have to admit that bgh is not as bad as those new money maps, because you'd still have to expand and have multiple base to have good resource income. It's annoying seeing all those money maps on the game list on b.net, because money map is a very bad place to start starcraft -_-..
If you think money map is just another prefered choice by ppl, or "let ppl play what they think is fun!", well I can't argue with that, but you have to realize money map kills starcraft. What kind of new player doesn't want to play on a map that all you have to do is make many cannon and sit with carrier?
Old-school players can always go play on places like neo gamei or wgt. But that does not solve the problem, because new players will still be playing money maps unless someone older teach them how starcraft is more complex game than that. Money map is infesting new generation of starcraft players, and is slowly killing starcraft -_-!
at least that's my opinion

I do not think that making a new thread was a big deal...
SDG, the thing is, starcraft isnt getting many new players anymore. People think its to old and crappy.
Fast maps are pretty pointless.. They usually end in stalemates, production is too quick, economies are too big, map WILL max, a single spell (storm, irradiate) will wipe out an entire economy (for stacked minerals), mass anything to win, cheap mass tricks to win (infinite overlord trick...), the ultimate defenses (2000 cannons and counting), overly unbalanced play (mass capital ships), and macro with over 200 units is overly stupid.
Then again...
Normal maps are pretty difficult as well... most new players are easily slaughtered by more professional players, economies are difficult to manage, early damage in economies results in unrepairable economies in the mid game with impending loss nearing, resource management is a pain, micro can be relentless and too fast paced, overly complex strategies will unfold, and being new to terrain will definitely be a disaster.
In effect, Fast maps are played more often due to their simplicity and whatnot, and Normal games are left to the pros.
Oh, and back to the unbalanced talk eariler in some other post...
There IS unbalanced play in EVERY game imaginable!
Theres two kinds:
Obvious Unbalanced: things that are obviously overpowered offset by their cost or production times. Or obviously seen through win rate due to cheap play.
SC is a prime example. There is a reason why a Carrier is one of the last units a player can create and a zealot being one of the first units you can create. Not to mention thier costs. Obviously a carrier costs alot more. With infinite money, you can have the most unblanced play in the world.
Classic examples of Obvious Unbalanced Play:
-SC: Nukes, capital ships.
-Halo1+2: Camping.
-Counter Strike: Camping.
-Marvel vs Capcom 2: Cable's Hyper Beam Super
Experience Earned Unbalanced Play
How 1 tanks can kill 2 un-upgraded zealots. Yes... thats pretty unbalanced due to the abilities of the units.
Classic examples of Experience Earned Unbalanced Play:
-Halo1+2: Days and days of unending practice with the Sniper Rifle...
-Counter Strike: Re-buying all of your weapons in 3 seconds.
-Marvel Vs Capcom 2: Cable, defeating a whole team with him alone...
-SC: Defeating a Mass Guard/Muta/Ling with Defilers/Hydras/Lurkers.
Moneymaps suck like hell(unless i play them to backstab!) it is rts not crap
normal maps are the best of strategy
I think money-maps suck big time. Its like playing Starcraft, but your able to use the "show me the money" cheat. Whoever can type "show me the money" the fastest and produce the most troops wins.
And all the games are PPPvPPP, everyone doing the same strat. All you need is to build 5 units: Probes, Pylons, Gateways (around a billion of these), Cybernetics Core and Goons.
Not necessarily, You can create mass buildings with Non-Money, it just takes longer (duh)
I found it fun BSing on Non-Money because sometimes people who play money maps enter a non-money partially becasue they don't know any better, so they suck in the game.
It doesn't only take longer to make mass buildings, it requires taking expos, defending harass, scouting the enemy to make sure they aren't about to attack, etc.
