how can people make awsome pictures with the square terrain? That must really take a long time to do.
Sometimes they use BMP2SCM or Starcraft Picture? Which will convert a picture into square tilesets for them. Other times, yes it takes them ages.

Woot!!!

All you do is find the colors you want (tiles) then you remember what does what and what is what, then you can draw. or be a lazy noobish ass and use BMP2SCM or SCPM2.0 (SC Picture Mapper).
People use editors like Starforge and SCMDraft. It takes me forever just to make a perfect double bridge (2x as long as a regular bridge).
Heres what introduced the community to this kind of stuff:

I think it benifited everyone. Just look at the awesome terrain being done now. A new standard of map making has been made.
Awesome pictures as in minimap or as in ramps or odd looking terrain? If your talking about minimap, youve gotta have skills. I don't have skills in minimap design, unless I use BMP2SCM.
When some people make minimap designs, it amazes me. *Cough* R2B *Cough*
Although I think the BMP2SCM and other tools like it are pretty nifty programs, I think that they take the fun out of minimap drawings.
When I was actively creating bounds (stereotypical maps w/ minimap designs), I used to love creating a picture tile-by-tile and having a cool effect that is visible on the minimap.
It always amazed people as well and got the map some good, quick publicity.
