Okay, I got this new idea for a tactical map. It's called Ants of War.
I know it sounds crappy, but this is gonna be like you first have 8 SCVs (your worker ants). Your Queen is a hatchery, but does not produce units, nor does SCVs make buildings. You start with about 15 minerals and it keeps decreasing like every minute. If it runs out, you cannot spawn any more units, so to keep ur minerals up, you need to go out and search for food. Food will be like mineral chunks, which are little crumbs or scraps, or mineral fields which are like candy that ppl dropped.
Ther'll be other ant colonies that are your enemy, and I don't know if I should add allies. Oh yeah, and you get Drones that build your colony, and get you different variety of units. Plus, there'll be computers that are other insects like Bees, Spiders, or like centipedes that are much stonger than you and they attack ur base randomly. Your queen dies, you fail.
I don't know if this'll be successful, but it's just an idea
So.. Is this a idea, Or are you actually going to make the map, If so, Sounds like it will be a great map
Dude... there are so many good Ants maps already... how about you pm me and I send you one and you just enjoy playing it
. While it might be fun it doesn't sound quite as good as some of the Ants map out there already.
I myself have made several ant maps, There soon will be so many ant maps, There will always be a ant map on the join screens.
I'm gonna kinda make this like LOTR maps or diplomacy, where you can capture areas. For example, you can go to the spider's nest, defeat the spider, and capture the beacon there.
I think it sounds like a cool map. It is just like an Ant colony! [Spiders should be goons] KNOW WHAT IM SAYING?
no, spiders are Ultralisks, that you really can't kill easily, Centipede is a zergling that has a trail of dying hydras behind it (there will only be one centepede) and it will be constantly moving.
how do you make that trail then ?? this map sounds really cool
... but can you say how to do that trail it would be nice.
I'll explain it.
1. Make a location follow the zergling(aka. centipede) and preserve trigger.
2. Keep spawning a hydralisk in the location and then use kill trigger to kill it.
More or less like that...
Aha thanks
but thats the problem i dont know how to do a location follow
This sounds interesting. It also sounds alot like Sim Ant, (especically the centipede, where there was that one annoying centipede that was hard to kill, but if you killed it it was worth a lot of food).
Ant Lions or Trap Door Spiders might be nice too. Maybe friendly lurkers that turn hostile when you get almost ontop of them... (Hmmm...
)

Use the "Move Location" trigger.
Center location labeled "location" on "Zergling"(centipede) owned by "Player"(who owns the centipede) at "Anywhere"
^Yep, that's just what it is...
Oh man, I didn't think this would get THIS far, i mean I thought it was gonna be a stupid idea.
I need to see other ant maps to see what they are like, can somebody please send me some of the ant maps? Just attatch it to your posts...
Oh, yeah. I might add rain where if you're not in ur base, you get splashed by random dragoons dying and the men die right under the splashes, so it's more challenging... or hard...
There'll be bees too, and they're gonna be like vultures. Bumblebees, which are seige tanks and wasps, which are vultures. You can capture a bee hive and that has massive amounts of minerals.
Oh yeah, if all ur SCVs die, they respawn, and the builders, is there any way to make drones NOT grab minerals? Or, I don't really care because I'll make them with 1 hp, so it's risky in the wild.
No It's
Cond.
''Player #'' Brings ''0'' ''Zergling'' To ''Trail''
Actions
Create ''1'' ''Hydralisk'' For ''Player #'' At Trail
Apply ''Properties''
Move Location ''Trail'' On ''Zergling'' At ''Anywhere'
Prezerve
Ok So If It's Moving It Will Come Just After The Unit
AND
In Case It Stops It Will Not Create
Yeah, so when it's attacking, it will look like it's raising its body up, so that's y it looks just like a zergling.
ANYWAYYS, can i see an ant map?
This sounds kind of like the game "Ant War" that was on the internet. It was fairly in depth, but I only played the online version that lets you play for 1 hour, so I didn't get too far. Anyway, it is like you can set the percent of your ants on biulding, nursing, fighting, or gathering. Your nest can hold twice its size in food, you fight random battles where the amount of ants is your health and amount of soldiers is your attack. It was very in depth. There was also a store to buy improvements from. You can only do ajust stuff durring the night, then you send your ants out and they get bonuses. It was a really nice game. It might have some ideas for this one. It is at
this site. Good luck, it might have some ideas, like you could do it one player and fight the evil termites.
That game is SweeeEEeettt
I don't get that game.... u just watch things happen...
Wait... can SCVs/Drones/Probes carry mineral chunks belonging to ANY player and bring it back to Hatchery(Queen Ant)? And how many minerals do u gain?
Are you refering to the "X-tra Powerup" Mineral Chunks, or the Mineral Chunks from mining regular Minerals, because the "X-tra Powerup" version cannot be redeemed for minerals...
can you place mineral patches on dodads?
Can you remove powerup from a unit carrying a powerup and still have the unit be fine and be able to carry more of them?
I believe it is possible to remove the regular powerups, (Khyadrin crystal, chyrisallis, etc...) but I'm not sure about the X-tra powerups.
Yeah, you can place minerals on doodads.
I got the terrain going, and the ideas are pretty good. Any important facets that make a diplomacy map good? Cuz I really don' know much about them... I just want to make a tactical war map.
X-tra power-ups can be removed. I tried it before. And try to make "stratergic spots". And then see players using the terrain to their advantage.
I'm making a Fortress that one of the players start out with, so they can build their fortress cuz their ant base is connected to the fortress cuz of a nydus canal.
Oh, yeah. I'm making spawn, not build...
