Staredit Network -> Website Feedback, Bugs & Discussion -> How much bandwidth does SEN use?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SA_Max71 on 2005-04-20 at 21:58:57
I am wondering a few things:
  1. How much bandwidth does SEN's DLDB use per month?
  2. How much bandwidth do all of the forums use per month?
  3. How much bandwidth does SEN's header and footer use per month?
  4. How much bandwidth does Moose's and DK's website use per month?
  5. How much bandwidth is used in total per month?
[sub] [sub] [sub] [sub] [sub] [sub] [sub] [sub] [sub] [sub]
  6. How much bandwidth do I use? [/sub] [/sub] [/sub] [/sub] [/sub] [/sub] [/sub] [/sub] [/sub] [/sub]
Could you tell me this for the last 12 months?

With the arcade, army, and zerg pets, I am currently not open to suggestions or new features until I make a topic about it. Serious glitches or abusable bugs are indeed welcomed though.
Status ~ All games are up.

Could this be changed to reflect the current status of the games?

1 + 2 + 3: There is no definite anwser because the site isn't broken down like that. Everything runs through index.php to initiate sql abstraction classes and the like, so you can't really say "oh, well, the forums used 10 gigs last month while the dldb used 50 gigs..." However, in the table below, you can definite assign .exe's bandwidth to the dldb, as most of the images.

Filetype breakdown for march:
[attachmentid=8077]
(imageshack is down? hopefully you can open the attachment happy.gif)

4. Not much at all.... like... very, very little.
5. Over 100 gigs lately.
6. For april, your primary ip address lists 203.84 MB so far, your secondary lists 17.86 MB. For march, your primary lists 221.80 MB, while secondary is 108.76 MB.

Senv5 will definitely cut down on bandwidth because the php files won't be so bulky and the images in the header/footer will be better managed, as well as inside the dldb and such.

Seeing as I am a bandwidth hog (Somehow)...
Would it be too much trouble to show how much I've used? blushing.gif

I'm disabling the arcade. Rexy, by herself, used 1.57 gigs last month.

And some of you may remember a certain quote in IP's sig from me:

QUOTE(IsolatedPurity)
WHAT THE censored.gif ?
69.93.72.122 used 30 gigs last month...
It seems to be on a constant incriment. Last vist in march was 11:59 pm and last visit this month was THIS minute.

That 30 gig ip is our ip...

WTF?

How the hell is...

Sorry about thirty gigs thing.
I still don't know how I did that. I never use the arcade...

What are you talking about? You never used 30 gigs. Read my post again and shut up. I was talking about how much you used THEN showing the reason for IP's sig. GOSH. Freakin idiot.

Ya, I saw it... Ya, your right. The PHP files definately need to be smaller... (30.6 GB used, with only 1,209,650 hits compared to the .gif s at 8.37 GB with 46,852,200 hits!)

I comsumed that much bandwidth? Wow...

Uh, when you say my secondary lists, do you mean my secondary IP address? Because they are never used (unless someone has figured out how to steal them from me).

Could you make it so that we can see how much bandwidth we used? tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2005-04-22 at 15:49:01
Don't think that that will happen as that will consume even more bandwith. You would have to access the Bandwith scripts that tell which IP used how much bandwith and then determine which IP addresses belong to which user and then add them up.

How about if you use too much, we just ban you? Then you won't have to worry about using too much. tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SA_Max71 on 2005-04-22 at 23:38:34
I don't think you would be able to do that, based on what beer_keg said, because then you would have to know each user's IP address on here.

hmmm... how much is too much? More than 1 byte? Or more than 1gb? In that case, I believe rexy would be banned along with SEN. (Qoute by chu: SEN is sucking up SEN's bandwidth!)

What is bandwhith?

Damn good question... as simple as it is, I just can't form it into words.

QUOTE(dictionary.com)
The amount of data that can be passed along a communications channel in a given period of time.

So like... "high bandwidth cable" is like, an isp that allows you to retrieve more information from the "internet" in shorter periods of time: 5 kilobytes per second (modem) vs 2+ megabytes per second (cable). Our "bandwidth" on a hosting server is the limitation on how much can be downloaded from the server per month. So, every page you load has an average of 30kb you download, and all the files, and it adds up very fast. I'm pretty sure, from you to our server there is another super server or something where they have their own bandwidth limitations or something, maybe.
It's just an ugly mess of wires I'm sure, is the "internet" organized? To who does all this bandwidth each page is using matter? Besides the DNS server, where's the authority? Omg?
Well, in the lowest scope of things, bandwidth matters because if we have user's downloading terabytes of data each month, the speed of the entire serverseed network drops rapidly, so, it's a limitation to keep server speed up and cpu processing time down. On a side note, this speed thing of networks is why some people really hate spam email. If there was no spam email, it's thought (I think!) the whole internet would pick up some speed.

Hope I explained it good enough... even though I babbled happy.gif.
Ah... good mood, good mood...
