Well....i said i was going to make a RPG but soon after starting it, i realized that i did not have the patience to sit there and make the f-ing towns. I loathe towns. Anyways, i have decided to go with a slightly smaller project and go with a tactics game. I would like to carry over some aspects from the RPG i was planning (mostly the breeding) to get used to the triggers. Some ideas i had so far were.....
1) An arena type plan where you fight, get mins, buy new monsters, breed to get new monsters that you can't buy and continue. This seems monotonous...so...if you have anything to spice it up, do tell.
2) An actual TURN BASED GAME (an army or just one character), much like FFT (the real one, not the SC one) and this would most likely not have the breeding system....it just wouldn't fit the theme.

Oh yes, a new idea!! Well it would be like a "gang war" MUCH MUCH MUCH more like FFTA, where you take over towns, using the money gained from having control of towns to recruit people, buy weapons, armor, items, yadada.

That map is a fine map (i just tried it) and well....yeah i liked it but i didn't like the fact i had to walk so far and that i always required the other player to go to his spot to fight him. I would much most likely have a system sort of like that but i would make it so that you fight the comp, buy more units, lower the time spent walking, and i would really think it would be kinda cool to have a city system to take over (like in City Conquest) only with turn-based battles, spells and...to me...much more fun!
aah..i c but your gonna have problems doing this against comps. Comps won't know what moves to make during their turn unless you come up with something completely insane such as having the comp "react" to the moves you make which is possible but will take up a LOT of triggers and become repetative

City Conquest the game or is that a starcraft map? If it's a map I'm interested in getting ahold of it

. Spells are always good, though they can be confusing to people trying a map for the first time.
Yes, City Conquest is a SC map....it's sort of like diplo but instead of building something by the tower you move a SCV to the beacon beneath the city...some of the larger cities (such as the ones that give you tech) take move SCVs to take that place over....sounds complex but it is rather simple

Hmm I am making a Turn Based Strategy Map but the Battles are Real Time. Sieges of enemy towns take different turns varied on such stuff. I would post the Alpha here but figured my clan could Enter the WoTC or watever those map making clans are doing.
Some friend of mine is trying to make a tactics rpg too.... maybe a new era WILL begin where everyone starts making tactical based rpgs? Only time will tell.

A Friend of mine is also making a pretty good tactical type map, but he is having trouble continuing progress on it. I believe HE and HIS MAP can change the Starcraft rpg world upside down.

If you're going to make it like FFTA, will you be putting in laws and restrictions for battles?
The only problems that are within all strategic combat games and stage based games is that they take a very long time to make. Too long actually.
There are a few ffta maps that are created currently where the computer player is controlled easily. Triggering enemy actions aren't that difficult.

I haven't decided HOW i will make my map nor if i should start it. I decided to throw some ideas out there, and get some feedback and advice (seeing as this would be my first map) before I start.
If it is your first map and you still aren't familiar with most of the basic Staredit functions, it's best to create some basic maps, pull out some good concepts from that, and put them all into your main map.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm implying you're a noob because I'm not!

I made a map that you could have a city anywhere with no locations in it...
but then each player = 2x the number of triggers you needed, and you needed around 30 for each player.
I just dont have the kind or determination that some people have...

Guys or ppl in this thread. You have to know that Taticale take too long to make and these so called map makers say they are gona make these maps, but they dodnt even get clsoe to finshing it, im not trying to Dis-respect anyone but hardly any1 makes Tacticale rpgs, and i forgot his name but the Dark force guy that said his freinds will turn Sc world upside down, i highly doubt it because the only time when SC world was turned up side down was when stacking and Colors in map came, and that still wasnt a big thing, but big enough to make alot of unexpeirenced newb to start trying to make a Certain Map.
( I started making movie maps b4 any customed editor came out ) So to all u newb map makers who only started making map to get popular,

To be honest with you, I don't really care what you think I am doing to the "SC WORLD" seeing as this is a game and I'm going to have fun doing this. It's people like you that push me to make maps to do the opposite of what you say. Anyways, if anyone out there still wants to be helpful, I have most of the gameplay ideas down, and I think they are in my skill range, but i still need a way to make the castle sieges, and how to make it a bit tactical, perhaps with a touch of mayhem. Thanks for everyone's post......except for Flame's.

Only your opinion. Maybe newb question should be given to you. Just because someone wants to create a very nice map and do new stuff for starcraft doest mean he as to stop just because he not good as some. Really not your say if he makes map or not, just because your lazy bastard and cant be stuffed making this map doesnt mean soul is one. Even if soul is a newb map maker doesnt mean stuff all, That why staredit.net here to help out people creating maps, to give them a hand in areas that he/she not good at.

Starman had good point try creating some basic maps and so thought, maybe even basic maps for your map like systems. Movement systems, attacking, items. So many ways do this yet some ways are easy and buggy. While others are complex and take alot work to do most people just drop the project. I hope see good progress from you map later on. Im sure alot people will help you in progress of your map due fact sen is good community full of great map makers and some who just bitch about crap. Good luck soul.

Im sure you could help him, you have done pretty much basic Turn Based RPG combat system and pretty bugless and was good map. Im sure be big help to him, but then again maybe confusing -_-;
Sounds good, but like you i dont really have the patience to make some kind of maps.
NOTE: Is just the town triggers or town terrain you hate? Because i got some ok town terrain...
I completly abhor all types of terrain. If you could share, that'd be great. Moogle thanks a lot for your support and advice. I would probably make some smaller maps if I had any idea of what I would do in them. And Starman, if you really have done some turn-based stuff I'd like some advice plz ^_^
